The Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi has frowned at what she observed during her on-the-spot monitoring of some schools in Awka North council area which include Obuno Primary School, Community Primary School, Irunese Primary School and Central school all in Ebenebe.
Angel Network News reports that Nwadinobi while speaking says this year, her agency is going to increase the monitoring and assessment of schools and teachers in Anambra State to raise the tempo of quality education in the state higher.
Nwadinobi during the assessment observed that pupils and teachers were seen sweeping and clearing the classrooms and the school compounds on Tuesday which they should have done on Monday the resumption day and in one of the schools only three teachers were on ground out of the six teachers the school has.
She revealed that her reason for visiting these schools is because Awka North is one of the hard-to-reach areas in Anambra State and Governor Chukwuma Soludo is very passionate about schools in such areas, their performances, challenges and what can be done to give them quality teaching and learning environment.
The ASUBEB Chairman noted that Governor Soludo is putting in efforts to make Anambra State to continue to lead in quality education in Nigeria and globally and warned the headteachers and teachers to sit up in their performances so as not to undermine the Governor’s efforts.
In their separate remarks, the headteachers of Obuno Primary School Ebenebe, Mrs Regina Ilouno and Uwana Primary School, Ebenebe, Mrs Evelyn Okafor appreciated Governor Soludo and ASUBEB Chairman, Dr Nwadinobi for all they are doing to keep improving quality of education in Anambra State and prayed God to continue to bless them.
They, however, requested for more teachers to their schools, build fences to protect the schools property, renovate decaying infrastructure, as well as build toilets for them.
