Those Criticising Tinubu’s Govt Did Nothing While In Power: Kaduna Gov Sani

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has faulted opposition politicians for not doing much to address some of the current challenges facing Nigeria when they were in power.

Governor Sani said this on Friday while speaking during Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

According to him, some of the challenges the country is facing, especially insecurity, started before the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“All the people talking today were at the helm of affairs, and things were growing. The poverty level in northern Nigeria grew from almost 50%, 15 years ago, to 70% on average as of 2023, and someone can look at me and tell me the problem was caused by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Come on,” Governor Sani said.

The governor said that banditry and other forms of insecurity were mostly limited as of 2014.

However, he said the inability of the government led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led to the festering of the issues.

“As of 2014, there was nothing called insurgency or banditry in Birni Gwari, Giwa, and many other parts of Zamfara. It started mostly around 2015, 2016. All we had was Boko Haram before 2014 in the North-East. But we sat down. We did not look at the developmental indices. We didn’t look at the level of poverty increasing in the north. We do not look at the number of out-of-school children growing,” he said on the current affairs show.

“These are the issues. We do not look at the problem we have in healthcare, accessibility. And that was the reason why things became so bad by 2017, 2018, and 2019.

“When I was in the Senate, every day when we approached the Senate, the first thing we would be sceptical about was that there might be a one-minute silence, that something had happened, people died. That was the story.”
