Tinubu, Obi, Atiku Applaud Super Eagles After AFCON Quarter‑Final Triumph

Nigeria’s top political figures — President Bola Tinubu, former presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex‑vice‑presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar — have all praised the Super Eagles following their 2‑0 victory over Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter‑finals, highlighting a rare moment of national unity as the team gears up for a semifinal clash.

In a statement released shortly after Tuesday’s match in Marrakech, President Tinubu hailed the Super Eagles’ performance and urged Nigerians to keep faith with the team. “This victory reflects the resilience and spirit of our nation. We stand with the Super Eagles as they chase continental glory,” he said, noting that the win “rekindles hope and pride in every Nigerian heart.”

Similarly, Peter Obi, Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate and a vocal supporter of grassroots development, congratulated the players and coaching staff for their discipline and determination. “We salute the Super Eagles for their courage and collective effort. On to the semifinals,” Obi posted on social media, urging citizens to rally behind the team as they face the tournament hosts, Morocco, later this week.

Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar, speaking through his media team, also commended the squad’s composure under pressure and described the victory as “a testament to Nigerian talent and teamwork.” He encouraged supporters to maintain their enthusiasm, noting that “this Super Eagles team embodies the unity and aspiration of our people.”

The Super Eagles claimed their quarter‑final spot with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, sealing a 2‑0 win that has boosted optimism ahead of Nigeria’s semifinal against the host nation.
