Toyota has thought better of its 2021 decision to stop production for its ubiquitous Land Cruiser and is bringing the consumer favorite back to America later this year.
Toyota is expected to make a formal announcement on August 1, but the company has confirmed the off-road vehicle will resume Land Cruiser sales after a two-year hiatu
“A Legend Returns: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is Coming August 1,” Toyota announced in a banner headline on its website.
“Something great is on the horizon. The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser will make its world debut on August 1st at 9:20 p.m. EDT,” the news release add
The Land Cruiser has long been favored by U.S. drivers for its toughness and durabilities.
A recent iSeeCars study of auto brand durability placed the Land Cruiser second on its “toughest” vehicle rankings, citing its potential lifespan of 280,235 miles and noting it had a 48% chance of lasting 250,000-plus miles on the open road.
The Land Cruiser is also considered a prize possession in Japan, where used-vehicle platforms have been selling the four-wheel drive brand for around $15 million yen (about $132,000) although the manufacturer’s suggested retail price is between five and eight million yen. In the U.S., 1980s-era Land Cruisers are still in demand, selling for up to $40,000, Bloomberg report.
