Trader Jailed for Stealing Books from School

A court on Friday sentenced a 47-year-old trader, Victor Martins, to three months in imprisonment without the option of a fine for trespassing and stealing books from a school.

The convict pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of trespass and theft.

After listening to Mr Martin’s guilty plea, the magistrate, Tapmwa Gotep, sentenced him to three months in prison without any option of fine.

She said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those wanting to indulge in such acts.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Daniel Longwal, told the court that the case was reported on February 23 at the Anglo-Jos Police Station by Mongai Obi.

Mr Longwal said that the convict trespassed into the school and stole books belonging to the students before he was caught.

He said that offence is punishable under the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
