* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has expressed sadness over the attack on United States embassy staff and policemen in the state while saying his administration was not aware of the “humanitarian mission” of the visiting team. Soludo said this in a statement signed by Mr Christian Aburime, his press secretary. ANN recalls that U.S. Embassy convoy was attacked on Atani-Osamala Road, Ogbaru Local Government Area, leaving two Staff and policemen killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants on May 16, 2023.
* The commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Echeng Echeng says two persons have been arrested and are currently assisting the police in the investigation on the attack of USA consulate convoy on Tuesday, 16th May, 2023 in Ogbaru LGA, Anambra state. In a press briefing held at the police command headquarters Awka on Thursday, Echeng stated that a joint security forces comprising police tactical teams from the command and troops of the Nigerian Army as well as the Nigerian Navy raided a camp in Ugwuaneocha community of Ogbaru LGA, which was suspected to be the hideout of the assailants but discovered that it had been deserted.
* The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter led by Anthony Orji has called for construction of more sporting facilities across the state and upgrade of existing ones. In a statement signed by the chairman, Anthony Orji and Chimezie Anaso, Secretary respectively, the group commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for bringing back school sports to the state after over a decade of its comatose.
* To enable members, re-examine administrative direction and reawaken team spirit in discharging responsibilities, the Anambra East Local Government has organised a three-day retreat for council members and management staff. The retreat held at Archbishop A.K Obiefuna Retreat Centre Okpuno, Committee on Education, Economic and Community Development, CEECD, of Anambra East Local Government, was inaugurated.
* The member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency Hon. Noble Igwe has commended the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for the construction of roads in the state, particularly in Okpoko. Before seconding the motion for adjournment at a recent plenary, Hon Igwe expressed gratitude to Soludo and also called for the speed up in action of other constructed roads so as to reduce the suffering of his constituents.
* National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State has given reasons for minimal relocation cases among corps members posted to the state for their national service.
State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma who disclosed the reasons at the Umuawulu/Mbaukwu orientation camp, attributed the feat to introduction of special activities as well as enabling environment conducive for corps members. Iruma said majority of NYSC members who had intention to be redeployed to other states after the three-weeks orientation course suddenly changed their minds soon after they settled down in camp.
* The Chairman Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Transport, Hon. Patrick Obalum Udeoba, says government is to venture into water transportation in coastal areas of the state. Obalum who extolled Governor Charles Soludo’s efforts in road infrastructure, said government plans to explore its potential in coastal areas of Ihiala, Ayamelum and others to diversify the transport sector.
* The Labour Party in Anambra State, led by Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, has thrown its full weight and support behind the Julius Abure-led national executive of the party. They also expressed unflinching support for the party’s presidential flagbearer in the February 25, 2023 general election, Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed in their ongoing legal battle at the election petitions tribunal to recover their mandate.
