* The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), has disagreed with Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his insistence to keep and increase the number of military and Police checkpoints in the state. Soludo, in a stateside broadcast, passed a vote of confidence on the military checkpoints on roads in Anambra, saying they had helped to improve the security situation in the state. The governor’s endorsement came on the heels of a public outcry which said the military were causing hardship on motorists by blocking roads, thereby causing avoidable gridlock and using same to extort road users.

* It was a moment of joy and reunion for people of Osile village Ogbunike in Oyi Council Area as both the young and old gathered at the Ilo Akpaka Osile to celebrate maiden edition of Ito Ogbo of the community.

The Chairman of Osile Ogbunike community, Ogbuefi Chukwukadibia Okoye in an address said the aim of organising the event was to respect and honour the aged in their community noting that old age is a blessing and a thing of joy.

* Commissioner for Health Anambra state, Dr. Afam Obidike has hail the Tuberculosis Department in his Ministry for ending the year with three awards. ANN reports that Anambra State Ministry of Health bagged three National Tuberculosis awards from the Federal Ministry of Health National Tuberculosis Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme Department of Public Health.

* The need for regular checkup and exercise to maintain good health has been reemphasized. This became the crux of the matter during a two-day health outreach organised by Goodfellas International Club, Nibo. The health outreach tagged “Ndu bu aku” featured health walk and health talks on the first day and free medical outreach for the people of the community took place the second day.

* Stakeholders and some  executives of NASPA Nnewi has called on the caretaker chairman of the market to stop forthwith the drainage he is building presently in the market because it will led to flooding in the market when the rains come back. Hon. Obinna Okechukwu, the former Caretaker Chairman of the market made this assertion in an interactive session with journalist yesterday in Nnewi.

* The Federal Government and International Fund For Agricultural Development, FGN/IFAD, Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, has recorded another great feat in Agriculture through the introduction of flood resistant Rice variety to reduce losses suffered by farmers during flooding. It also included insurance cost as a prerequisite for the approval of business plans for benefiting farmers.

* A Nigerian novelist and author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been honored with a title by her hometown, Abba, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The renowned writer was given the title of Odeluwa — the writer of global acclaim.

* Miss Oluebube Nwandu has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Face of Inspiration International 2022 Beauty Pageant powered by Inspiration 101Plus Magazine held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka. The event which is the grand finale of the Beauty Pageant attracted families and friends of the contestants, awardees, government functionaries, showbiz personalities among others.

* Anambra state government through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba has commenced the payment operational cost of over 400 Master Trainers who are currently training Youths in 20 different Skills acquisition areas in the 21 LGAs of the State. According to Mbah, the government’s mandate is to implement the program through his ministry.

* As part of activities lined up to celebrate the 2022 Christmas, the people of Ogboji in Orumba South Local Government Area, recently converged on the palace of their traditional ruler, Igwe Festus Iyioku to witness the installation of his cabinet Chiefs, known as Ndi Ichie.

The cabinet Chiefs were fourteen in number and eleven were drawn from each of the eleven villages that make up the community, while the constitution of the town granted the traditional ruler the power to select three other Ichies to become palace ambassadors that will be representing him in some functions.

* The wife to a high ranking member of the Anambra State House of Assembly (name withheld) is seeking urgent divorce from the husband. The lawmaker’s wife called him unprinted names, including pedophile, rapist and wife beater.

* UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, has inaugurated a committee on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in anticipation of the 2023 African International School on Development of Vacuum Technology in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology Research. The inauguration which took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference room is headed by the Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Land and Natural Resources Management, Prof. Peter Nnabude.

* Over one thousand people have benefited from Anambra State Association, worldwide free medical treatment in Abagana. The team had earlier offered free medical treatment in three towns namely Igboukwu, Abatete and Okija. The free medical mission, medical Doctors and other health personnel offering free medical services including general diagnosis, medical consultation, laboratory test, eye checks and presentation of free eye glasses and referrals.

* Candidate of All Progressing Grand Alliance (APGA) for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Obi Nwankwo has urged the people of his constituency not to allow themselves to be confused or manipulated over their choice of person while casting their votes. Nwankwo who gave this advise at the end of the year get-together of Sunshine Network Support Group Grassroot Evangelism, Ezinator Chapter, at Vertex View, Nibo, charged Awka citizens to ensure their votes speak their minds at all costs without mixed feelings.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has restated the commitment of Anambra State Government to make Nnewi a development model. Governor Soludo was speaking at 59th Ofala Festival and 97th birthday anniversary of the Traditional ruler of Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area , Igwe Kenneth Orizu.
