* Former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), and Anambra Central Senatorial candidate of Labour Party (LP), Sen. Victor Umeh has said there is no truth in the rumour that he demanded N500million to support Prof Chukwuma Soludo in the last governorship election. Umeh was speaking during the inauguration of the state executive of Senator Victor Umeh Solidarity Network (VUSON), yesterday, a support group, rooting for his emergence as Senator. Umeh had dumped APGA LP, after he was denied the senatorial ticket of the party in what has been said to be a grand conspiracy among the leadership of the state, and the party.

* The ancient town of Ifitedunu was agog as dignitaries from far and wide converged in Ifitedunu to witness the historic initiation of the industrious great son of the soil, Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu (Cheleku) into the prestigious Ozo sacred institution. Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu who is the Lawmaker representing Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly and the APC Candidate for Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections took the title Ozo Nwachieweta. Speaking after the conferment, while thanking Ndị Ọzọ, dignitaries and friends, Ezeudu noted that the Ozo title has placed a greater responsibility on him as a custodian of the culture and tradition of his people. He restated his commitment to continue the preservation and promotion of good Igbo traditional heritage. 

* Ahead the Christmas and new year celebrations, Nnewi Union in Atlanta, Georgia, USA has offset the hospital bills of thirteen indigent patients at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State. In her introductory remarks, the representative of Nnewi Union in Atlanta, Mrs Grace Okeke in company of Mrs Chioma Egbuonu pointed out that the initiative actually started four years ago. She noted that it started as an intervention for indigent Nnewi patients before it was later thrown open to accommodate people from other places.

* A notable priest of the Roman Catholic church, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, has berated some Igbo politicians and stakeholders, saying they have been making efforts to pull down one of their own who has been working very hard to become the next president of Nigeria. The Christian cleric also berated the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what he described as unfair treatment of the Igbo nation, and the southeast in the country’s political trajectory.

* The Acting Director General of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Christy Uba has sought the involvement of Anambra State Government in the training of corps members in different skill areas. Mrs Uba stated this when she paid a courtesy visit to wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

The Acting Director General was in the state on a routine tour of orientation camps across the country.

* The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of his 80th birthday, stating that the president has done his best for Nigeria. Soludo stated this in his birthday message to President Buhari circulated to journalists on Saturday by his press secretary, Mr Christian Aburime. He said attaining the age of 80 years was a manifestation of God’s blessings and a milestone achievement worthy of celebration

* Vigilante operatives operating in Ezinifitte, Nnewi South Local Government Area have arrested a notorious gunman, said to be responsible for many atrocious activities in Ezinifitte, and the entire Nnewi South. Recall that Nnewi South, Especially Ukpor, Ezinifitte and Unubi were the hideout of criminals, known as unknown gunmen, during the height of insecurity in Anambra State. The suspect who gave his name as Chukwuma Ejionye, said he hails from Awo, Ezinifite,in Nnewi South south LGA.

He stated in a video circulating online that he is popularly known as small case.

* Ohaneze Ndigbo has presented Best House of Assembly Speaker Award to the Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, RT Hon Uche Okafor. The organisation made the presentation during the end of the year get together of the state chapter, where they  honoured the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Mrs Uche Ekwunife and member representing Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency,  Lynda Ikpeazu.

State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Emeka Udedeme said the awards were in recognition of the various contributions of the recipients to the state and Igboland. Chief Udedeme lauded the Speaker for promoting cordial working relationship among the arms of government and sustained support to activities of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

* The Department of Political Science under the Faculty of Social Sciences held her 30th anniversary to mark the Departmental autonomy spanning from year 1992 to 2002 and first homecoming of her graduates. The colourful event with the theme “Building the Alma Mater: Alumni Development in the University System” held at the ASUU NAU Secretariat Awka, saw the convergence of graduands and academic products of the Department, teaching and non-teaching staff as well as her undergraduate students all in attendance. In his address, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, stated that the Department of Political Science has come of age because of the 30 years anniversary which he described as a historic moment in her existence. Prof. Esimone who was represented by the Associate Provost (Humanities), College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. E.C. Obidimma said the staff of the department have a lot to do in continuation of the ideas of their founding fathers especially for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

* Late Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka and the late Mrs. Chinwendu Miriam Ezeaku Chukwuemeka, husband and wife reportedly kidnapped and murdered by their assailants have been laid to rest. The couple was buried in their home town, Isiekwulu, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government, Anambra state on Thursday leaving community in deep mourning. They two were said to be  returning from Holy Ghost Adoration at Uke, when they were kidnapped. It was gathered that the late couple was with their 4-month-old baby, whom the kidnappers abandoned in the car and whisked the couple away.

* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, under the leadership of Commandant Isdiore C. Chikere wishes to assure the good people of the State of its readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protection of lives and property of innocent citizens, coupled with all the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the State during the celebration.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says the flag of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA will continue to fly higher in Anambra state and even beyond the state. Governor Soludo stated this when he paid a courtesy call on his predecessor and Chairman of Board of Trustees of APGA,  Chief Willie Obiano. Soludo was accompanied to the visit by his wife, Nonye and other stakeholders in the state including the Deputy Governor,  Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Speaker,  Anambra state House Of  Assembly,  Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor,  Chief of staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi among others.

* Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in an early morning fire in Ose main market, Onitsha, Anambra State. The fire which started around 1am, reportedly gutted three shops where drums of chemicals were sold. ANN gathered that no life was lost in the inferno, while the cause of the fire was still unknown as at time of filing the report.

Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili said immediate intervention of his men prevented the fire from spreading to other shops in the market.

* Leaders of Otolo Nnewi Development Union, an association of ndị Otolo community of Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday, appreciated the Senator representing Anambra South and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah for his outstanding performance as a legislator at the upper chamber of the National Assembly. The union leaders led by their president, Honourable Amobi Adukwulu (Ikemba Otolo) made the appreciation when they paid a courtesy visit to Senator Ubah at his Umuanuka Otolo Nnewi residence. According to Honourable Adukwulu, Senator Ubah has despite the fact that he is a first timer at the National Assembly, performed creditably in his legislative activities.
