* People of Awka North Local Government Area have expressed satisfaction with the massive construction work on going on the twenty-six kilometers, Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awbaofemmili road. The Commissioner for Works Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma inspected progress of work on the road and expressed satisfaction with pace and quality of work done so far. Works commenced in October on the twenty-six kilometers Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awbaofemmili, with earth work along Amansea axis of the road. Two months after, the level of progress recorded on the road was impressive as the road has become motorable from Amansea to Awbaofemmili.
* Catholic Men Organization (CMO) Onitsha Archdiocese on Friday 9th December 2022
marked it’s 40th anniversary, archbishop’s medal award and five hundred million library project fund raise ceremony at the St basilica square. His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Valerie Maduka Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Diocese in his sermon described CMO members as pillers of the church and also head of the family. He urged father’s to be good role models and mentors to their children. He called on them leave legacies of deep spiritual foundation and catholic up-bringing and tradition to the family.Â
* Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has called on the family of the late lawmaker and Majority leader representing Awka Constituency One at the State House of Assembly, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor to live out his legacies in order to immortalize him. Governor Soludo made the call at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, where the funeral mass took place. According to the Governor, immortalising the lawmaker entails carrying out some of the principles that he lived for and transmit same to his children, noting that it is the only way to sustain his legacies in perpetuity.
* Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged five inmates and granted bail to five others at the Amawbia Correctional Centre, to mark the end of this year’s jail delivery exercise. Cases for which they were detained included murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, burglary, stealing among others. The inmates discharged include Messers Chinedu Nnalue from Urum in Awka North Local Government Area, Ifeanyi Ifekwulugo, Obinna Nwafor, Sunday Matthew and Michael Obiejesi.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on the citizenry to always support security agents as a way of encouraging them to be more committed to the duty of securing lives and property. Governor Soludo made the call during this year’s launch of Emblem at the Government House Awka to officially kick off the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is set aside by the government to honour and support both serving and retired members of the Armed Forces who devoted their active working years to the service of their fatherland, and to raise fund for the upkeep of the Widows of the fallen Heroes and their dependants
* Articulated truck drivers in Anambra State on Friday, protested in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state over what they termed heavy government’s taxation on their vehicles. The protest is coming barely three days mini buses blocked the same Bridge over alleged extortion and lack of motor parks in the city. The drivers blocked major roads leading to and from the state through Onitsha, alleging imposition of N30,000 levy for trucks loading and offloading goods in the State. Stranded workers and traders heading to Onitsha for their businesses were forced to trek long distances to their destinations as the protest caused heavy traffic, stretching towards Asaba axis.
* Royalty in Anambra State has been boosted with the recognition of a new traditional ruler in Umuomaku Town, HRH Igwe Livinus Ezenwa, Obikaenyi of Umuomaku, who received his staff of office from Anambra State Government. The certificate of recognition was issued at the Executive chamber, Government House, Awka.
During the ceremony, Governor Chukwuma Soludo promised that his administration will foster community unity, peace and progress at all times. Prince Neville S. Uchendu (Mayor of Atlanta) conducted the election under the administration of Mr Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo-CFR. The process of appointment has been described as free and transparent.
* The traditional ruler of Enugwu Agidi in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has denied the allegation by some of his subjects that he is a landgrabber. Some members of the community are at loggerheads with their monarch, Igwe Izuchukwu Onyeocha, over ownership and possession of some parcels of land in the community. The aggrieved community members, led by the community’s President-General, Mr Victor Mgbajiaka, accused the monarch of masterminding various attacks carried out by suspected land grabbers. Mgbajiaka, while speaking to journalists during a press conference in Awka, on Friday, claimed that so far, 12 persons have been injured and two women were allegedly raped by thugs used by the suspected land grabbers.
