* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr Nelson Omenugha has called on youths to dedicate their youthful energy towards productive engagements for a better society. Omenugha made the call while addressing the youths of the Catholic Youths Organization of Nigeria, CYON during the 2024 Archdiocesan youth day held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha. Dr Omenugha who was the chairman on the occasion, emphasized that the future of the society and that of the church largely depends on the quality of youth being raised today.
* The National chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA), Hon. Sly Ezeokenwa has inaugurated 448 ‘Solution Kindred Initiative, (SKI) member team, aimed at getting more votes through use of kindreds. Inaugurating the maiden SKI team at Idemili North council area headquarters, Ogidi, Ezeokenwa expressed satisfaction with the turn up of those inaugurated and charged them to intensify efforts towards getting more votes for APGA. The National chairman commended the state chairman, Hon. Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye and the council chairman, Hon. Chuks Brown Igboanua, for their relentless efforts towards moving the party forward.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has enjoined Muslims to always promote values of universal justice, peace, mutual understanding and love in their religious obligations. In his goodwill message to Muslim faithful in Nigeria on behalf of the State Legislature, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that as Ramadan symbolizes holiness, dedication to worship and charity work, Muslims should stick to the essence of the feast by exhibiting those virtues that will further unite the people and uplift the nation at all times. The Speaker who called for tolerance among different religious bodies in the country, urged Muslims to strive to maintain peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship with their Christian brothers in the interest of peace and progress of the country.
* A student from the Department of Science Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka simply identified as Francisca Chioma has not returned after traveling for burial. Chioma, was on her way to attend a burial ceremony in an undisclosed village outside Awka, Anambra State on Friday and her whereabouts has remained unknown till now. One of her schoolmates and a friend, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that she might have been kidnapped.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has
congratulate Muslims in Anambra for their successful fasting period. Soludo who hosted Anambra Muslim community leaders and joined in breaking the daily fast with them on Monday evening at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, commended the group for their exemplary conduct. The Governor reminded his visitors that the period of the holy month of fasting calls for purification of minds and also serve as a moment of re-awaking to all Muslim faithfuls.
* The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has appointed Mr. Samuel Nnaemeka Ufoh as the new acting Registrar of the institution. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sam Ufoh was a Deputy Registrar 1 in charge of the Personnel Unit of the Registry. Ufoh is a pastor of the Foursquare Gospel Church, and he hails from Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. The immediate past Registrar, Barr. Philomena Okoye, handed over to Mr. Ufoh in a colorful ceremony held at the office of the Registrar of the University on Monday.
* The President-General of Achina Town Union, (ATU) in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State Mr. Tony Ezenwaka said the community is facing an existential threat by erosion with 10 active erosion sites. According to him, the community has through several self-help initiatives, deployed a huge amount of resources in checking the disaster, but it appears the situation is getting out of hand.
Ezenwaka regretted the abandonment of the Achina-Onneh-Agbudu-Ogboji road, by the government of former governor, Chief Willie Obiano, which worsened the erosion challenges along the Ugwunganga axis of the road, sacking homesteads.
* Anambra State Government has adopted the United Nations stipulations for schools to end daily academic activities by half past two o’clock in the afternoon. This adoption is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s desire for school children to have adequate rest and interaction with their parents before the commencement of the next day’s activities. In a statement, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, charged all school Heads in Anambra State to ensure closure of all daily academic activities by half past two o’clock in the afternoon, to give room for the children to be at home by three o’clock in the afternoon.
* The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Charles Esimone, has said the Federal Ministry of Education will appoint an Acting Vice Chancellor of the university in accordance with the necessary university laws and not by imposition. Esimone disclosed this through his Special Adviser on Public Relations and Special Duties, Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu. Reacting to a media report alleging that there were plans to impose somebody on the university early in June as its new Vice Chancellor of the institution, Ojukwu described the allegation as unfounded and false.
