# The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim on behalf of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo joined dignitaries and mourners at the funeral mass of late Justice Chinwe Eugenia Iyizoba held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Nimo.
Speaking at the event, thr Deputy Governor stated that the state government’s presence at the funeral was not only to mourn but to celebrate a life of meritorious service
Conveying the condolences of Governor Soludo, Dr. Ibezim described the late Justice Iyizoba as a household name who set a standard through integrity and hard work.
He lamented that society no longer accords due respect to diligence and uprightness, stressing that the deceased belonged to a rare class of individuals with proven character.
Reflecting on life and death, he added, “We will all go one day. Today, a judge goes to be judged by God,” urging all to live purposeful lives.
# Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Anambra State, Mr. Christian Aburime has stated that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo encouraged freedom of the press in his first term.
Aburime said that Soludo created an atmosphere of peace and cordiality for every media house to report freely as well as criticised his government without fear or favour because the governor, according to him, didn’t operate in isolation.
The Chief Press Secretary said Soludo’s first term enjoyed cordial relations with journalists in Anambra State and that the same friendship would continue in his second term as the governor plans to create even a more democratic atmosphere for the Press to function without incursions.
# The Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Dr. Emeka Odogwu has been nominated
alongside others as the best performing lecturers in the department of Mass Communication, faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
In Mass Communication Department, Dr. Adaobi Okeke emerged in the first position, while Comrade Odogwu PhD came in as the 2nd position, and Samuel Idowu Ogunbadejo, the PTA Chairman, Unizik Nursery/Primary School,Awka came in as 3rd position.
This was announced during the Faculty of Social Sciences End-of-Year Review and party at the faculty complex.
The event was aimed at reviewing
the performance of the lecturers in the faculty and activities of the faculty in the ending year as well as afford faculty members an opportunity to unwind and fraternize.
In his review of the activities of the
Faculty during the year, the Dean, Prof.
Michael Ezenwa, expressed gratitude to
faculty members for their continued
support of his administration and the
faculty.
# The aspirant for Awka South one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Engr. Kenneth Moneke, has formally declared his intention to contest before party executives and critical stakeholders drawn from the nine wards of the constituency, urging them to make a careful and strategic choice ahead of the general election.
Addressing the gathering, Moneke emphasized that the decision of party leaders at the grassroots would ultimately determine whether the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) retains its dominance or loses out in the general election. He warned against poor candidate selection, noting that Awka has remained far removed from the center of governance due to ineffective representation.
The aspirant stated that his ambition is driven by a clear vision to reconnect Awka people with government, protect their rights, and ensure they benefit fully from democratic dividends. He further urged stakeholders to be politically aware and avoid celebrating mediocrity, insisting that leadership must be anchored on competence, courage, and a firm understanding of the people’s rights.
Highlighting his track record, Moneke pointed to several instances where he has stood up for the rights of the constituency despite not holding public office, positioning himself as a tested advocate of the people. He maintained that his approach to politics is rooted in issues and facts, rather than sentiments or entitlement narratives.
# The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended the Management of the Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, for what he described as a milestone achievement in the academic and infrastructural transformation of the College.
The Minister made the commendation while presenting an address during the 30th Joint Convocation Ceremony for the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education, NCE, and Professional Diploma in Education, PDE, of the College.
Dr. Alausa who was also the Chairman of the Ceremony, expressed happiness that the transformation was happening within three years of President Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration.
The Minister, represented by the Director, Colleges of Education, Dr Uche Ubah, attributed the development to the human-oriented policies of Tinubu’s Administration such as the Dual Mandate Platform, and TETFund interventions.
# The General Overseer of Love Breeds Christian Ministries Incorporation, Bishop Charles Uchenna, has tasked Governor Chukwuma Soludo to give more attention to the development of Awka in order to provide the state capital with the outlook of a modern city in his second term.
Bishop Uchenna, who is also the General Secretary of the Pentecostal Bishops Association Anambra State Incorporation, urged the Governor to ensure Awka receives attention deserving of the state capital in his budgets and developmental plans.
He expressed optimism that with continued commitment, the administration will consolidate on its achievements and leave lasting developmental impacts across the state.
The General Overseer however praised Prof. Soludo for what he described as notable achievements during his first term in office.
# The Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA), Anambra State, has Intensified
enforcement operations aimed at eliminating illegal revenue collection and extortion across the state.
The agency in line with this mandate, recently arrested three suspects in separate operations within Onitsha and its environs.
In a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Karen James, the arrested suspects, Michael Uwaoma and Ndubuisi Aniukwu were apprehended for allegedly extorting traders and commercial operators at Mgbuka Obosi and Umusiome Junction, Nkpor, respectively.
SASA reiterates its zero-tolerance stance against illegal levies and related acts of extortion.
# The draws for the 2026 NEROS Pharmaceutical Ltd sponsored Anambra FA Cup competition came to a fitting end at the Maxilon Hotel, Awka, Anambra State capital with six teams on stand-by.
Title holders, Edel FC, 2023 winners, Ozalla Football Academy, 2025 runners-up Peace FC, Obosi Utd, Rangels and BONFA were drawn by after the conclusion of the draws by the ANSFA Secretary, Ralph Nweke.
According to the draws, Amanda FC will lock horns with Black Smithers in the opening match scheduled for NEROS Stadium, Nanka, on April 9.
On April 10, Bishop Owen Nwokolo Football Academy, BONFA, will battle Emma Okeke FC for a place in the quarter finals at a venue yet to be determined by the FA.
Declaring the event open, Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chief Chikelue ‘General’ Iloenyosi, recalled that the FA Cup is the only competition open to all cadre of teams in the land.
The former Nigeria International said the FA Cup is a channel through which young talents are discovered and nutured to limelight.
Tracing his career path through the FA Cup, Iloenyosi narrated how he played in all categories of the National teams, having started his playing career in Abakaliki under Sir Victor Nwangwu.
