* The Maiden Lecture Series of Prof. Ngozi Egbuna International Center for Regional Integration and Trade Research, ICRITR, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in collaboration with the African Export-Import Bank, Afreximbank has ended with a call on African countries to seek for sustainable partnership for a trade balance, responsible stewardship and regional infrastructural development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu described lecture theme: “Unlocking Africa Trade for Shared Prosperity Through the AFCFTA: Challenges, Prospects and Opportunities” as very significant considering the place of trade in Onitsha, Anambra State and Igbo land in general.

* The Chairman of Coscharis Group of Company, Dr Cosmas Maduka has cleared the air about an alleged rift between him and the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. There had been a video circulating on the internet, with Maduka accusing Ubah of being indebted to him, and trying to avoid payment. But during the burial of the mother of a former member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Benchuks Nwosu in Nnewi, Maduka who spoke to journalists on the alleged rift between them blamed mischief makers for digging up a d circulating an old video.

* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has encouraged members of Sisters Fellowship International, (SFI) to continue in God’s work. Soludo stated this at the 2024 Sisters Fellowship International Conference held at the Sister’s Fellowship Center Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area. According to the Governor, the mission of SFI is related to the essence and purpose of government, which is helping to improve God’s creation on earth, especially the poor and down-trodden.

* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Anambra State and across Nigeria on the celebration of Eid el Fitr, which marks the successful end of the holy month of Ramadan. In his goodwill message, Soludo praised the Muslim community for their steadfastness, spiritual renewal and commitment to the virtues of charity, compassion and sacrifice exemplified during the Ramadan period. The Governor urged Muslims to sustain and propagate the lessons of piety, love for one another and devotion to Almighty Allah learnt during the holy month. 

* Anambra governor’s wife and founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has issued health warnings about trending consumptions of the household snacks popularly known as milky doughnuts. The governor’s wife who was speaking in a message she released in Awka, drew attention to the severe health implications of the trending product, noting that apart from increasing diabetes chance due to its high sugar content, the snack can also weaken overall body metabolism. She said that the latest social media craze for the snacks does not highlight its effects on human health, with more attention to the fact that it can predispose consumers to obesity. 

* Sen. Uche Ekwunife, has been inducted into the Pioneer UNIZIK Hall of Fame. Welcoming Ekwunife in his address, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, stated that the induction was to recognize in a special way personalities who have partnered with the institution towards her growth and development. Esimone informed that the Hall of Fame was conceptualized during his time as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) as a way of bringing them closer to be part and parcel of the institution.

* Delegation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) has visited the yet to be Unveiled Transatlantic Medicine and Heath Science University in Anambra being spearheaded by popular US-based medical doctor and philanthropist, Dr. Godwin Maduka.

Among the structures housing the proposed University is a 17-storey building, reputed to be the tallest building in the South East and South South. Also contained in the proposed university are residences for the Principal Officers – VC, Bursar, Registra, Librarian, lecture theatre, administratives, hostel and other blocks. The NUC team led by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki expressed satisfaction with the quality of structure put in place expected to house the medical university.

* Abuja based lawyer and an indigene of Obeledu community in Anambra State, Chief Dr. Emeka Obegolu SAN, has responded to the allegations of corruption imputed against the Judiciary by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police,  Aderemi Adeoye of aiding influential Anambrarians to secure the release of arrested cultists and criminals in the state. Recall that during the Commissioner’s visit to the Anambra NUJ Press Centre in Awka for the April Congress of the Union, Adeoye remarked that “could you imagine that the cultists we arrested, charged to court, and got remanded in prison custody, that some powerful locals are going to the Judiciary to lobby to get them released? And some have been released. And they are the ones unleashing this mayhem again! That is number one…” In his reaction, Obegolu said,“ The Commissioner of Police should know better that his comment is highly defamatory of the Judiciary and has enormous tendencies to paint the Judiciary black in the eyes of the common man.

* The Managing Director of Chris-tee Investment Mr Okechukwu Ayika has lamented over the demolition of parts of his property housing Oando Filling Station and Gas Plants at Trans-Nkissi phase 1, along Onitsha-Otuocha road 33 Onitsha.

Ayika, who was visibly worried by the emerging ecological disaster arising from the demolition, said that he had all the approval of the government on the property. According to Ayika, the demolition was done by agents of the State government on February 14.
