* Comrade Osita Obi, coordinator Recover Nigeria Project and coordinator Anambra Keke Drivers Forum, has insisted that the Anambra State Government must expose and bring to book Anti-tout officers who mercilessly brutalised one Wilfred Ikechukwu Ezike popularly called Mgbiligba Anambra in a viral video that elicited widespread public outcry in the recent past. Obi who spoke with journalist, expressed worry that after a long while, government was yet to fulfill its promise that it would expose as well as punish Anti-tout officers who barbarically used pestle to damage Mgbiligba’s legs as they brutalised him in the viral video without recourse to his fundamental rights as a human person.
Obi maintained that such callousness and treachery should not be swept under the carpet and that it was not enough to merely issue a statement without corresponding actions.
* The Managing Director of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi has called on residents of the state to enroll into the scheme to benefit from their rights to health. Dr. Onyemaechi charged ndi Anambra to cease the opportunities provided them by Government to enroll into Insurance scheme to benefit from their rights to health.
* A Non Governmental Organization ‘Hello International’ has partnered Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to organize a free medical outreach. The outreach which took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church field, Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area was sponsored by an indigene of the community and founder of Hello International, Dr Nkiruka Agbazue. The medical outreach was aimed at rendering free medicare to the rural populace, sensitize and equip the masses with rudiments for proper care of their bodies especially those affecting the eyes.
* Youths of Ojoto community in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to annul the community’s recently conducted Town Union election over alleged manipulation and constitutional breaches. The youth in their large numbers, in a protest at Saint Paul’s junction and along Idemili South LGA headquarters junction respectively, alleged that some contestants were unduly disqualified to create room for “selection” of Deputy President General and Secretary. Leader of the protesters and President, Ojoto Akanasato Union (OAU) Youth Wing, Mr Samuel Mbanaefo, said although they accepted results for other positions they would not accept that of Deputy President General and Secretary because it was flawed.
* A business mogul and philanthropist from Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor says Governor Chukwuma Soludo deserves second term in office because of his sterling performance in office. Ekweozor who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Awka, rated Soludo’s administration high in road infrastructure, security, health care delivery, youth empowerment, teachers and Healthcare professionals’ recruitments, among others. He maintained that what Soludo has done so far within his two years in office is a pointer to the fact that he came to revolutionize the economic fortunes of the state.
* A community leader and philanthropist in Ekwusigo local government area Chief Chigozie Anagwu, has constructed eight hundred metres of road, mounted fourteen security gates and installed five hundred KVA transformer in Ozubulu.
According to Chief Anagwu, who spoke while conducting the Transition Committee Chairman of Ekwusigo local government area, Mr Chimezie Obi, around the facilities, the move was part of his contributions to the development of the community and charged people of the state to support the efforts of Governor Soludo in transforming Anambra. He restated that his motivation for initiating the road project and other facilities in Ozubulu was to improve the quality of life for the people in the area and urged the beneficiaries to continue to obey the laws guiding the state.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu has described the people of Nawfija in Orumba South Local Government Area as industrious, peaceful and united individuals whose commitments towards community development have moved the community to greater heights. Speaking at Ohukabia-Nawfija, while commissioning the phase one of the multimillion-naira Ohukabia-Nawfija Daily Market, initiated by the Ohukabia Universal Forum, Prince Uchendu commended them for keying into Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda especially his Akuluo Uno vision.
* Resuming from the Easter break, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the award of a number of contracts. After due consideration of the memo presented by Engr Ifeanyi Okoma, Anambra State Commissioner for Works, ANSEC approved the award of the contract for the reclamation and control of the flood and gully erosion of the site. The contract was awarded to CEFAC International Ltd at the cost of N352,106,781. 81k (Three hundred and fifty-two million, one hundred and six thousand, seven hundred and eighty-one naira, eighty-one kobo only). The work is expected to be completed in 24 weeks from the date of mobilization.
* The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim gave out his first daughter, Ozioma to her heartthrob, Mr Chukwudi Nmuoto. According to Archbishop Ibezim, marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. He revealed that as Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ, public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses.
* The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Southeast zone has installed an Anambra business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor as their national patron. Decorating Chief Ekweozor, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the group, Engineer David Chukwu-Ajah described Chief Ekweozor as a man of honour and integrity, hence the decoration.
