* Anambra State Government has launched a smart learning initiative for deepening the knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT) among the students through education.

The programme, Smart Learn Anambra initiative, kicked off this week with convening of a strategic engagement with principals of the 22 selected pilot schools cum high-level meeting which brought together key government stakeholders and school leaders to align on expectations, responsibilities, and the roadmap for implementation.

According to the Managing Director, Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the Smart Learn Anambra was a bold step toward integrating technology into secondary education with outlined core components of the initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide, equipping students with 21st-century skills, and positioning Anambra State as a model for smart education in Nigeria.

This included installation of solar power systems for uninterrupted electricity, modern Android TV screens, reliable internet connectivity, and e-learning tools, provision of Learning Devices-Tablets and other digital tools for educators and students to support interactive learning.

* A tragic incident unfolded in the Ifite community of Nteje, Anambra State, as a young boy, identified simply as Christian, has been taken into custody after fatally stabbing another boy during a heated altercation.

According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation reportedly began when the victim allegedly struck Christian with a stick.

In retaliation, Christian is said to have drawn a sharp object and stabbed the other boy, leading to fatal injuries.

* The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has empowered over five hundred members of his constituents.

while speaking in a town hall meeting at the Emmanuel Castle of Refuge, Atani, tagged “𝑴𝒚 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑, 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑽𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆: 𝑨 𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆,” maintained that the event was a significant moment of civic engagement.

The Speaker in his presentation, gave a comprehensive report of his 22 months in office, highlighting the legislative breakthroughs under his watch.

* Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant said the joint effort underscored the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors to the state before during and after the Easter Celebration.

Maku said the operation in collaboration with other sister security agencies will leverage the combined expertise and resources of participating agencies to tackle insurgency, kidnapping and neutralize the threat posed by hoodlums.

According to him, there were recent reports of isolated incidents of security gaps which have raised significant concern among residents and security agencies necessitating the roll out of the operations in and around the state to smoke out criminal elements.

Commandant Maku assured members of the public that the Corps would continue to partner with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the optimum safety and security of all residents including protection of Critical National State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure.

* A group of community stakeholders from Nnobi in Idemili South Council Area says the admission made by the President General of the community, Bar. Dominic Okpala that he used crystal methamphetamine popularly known as “mkpurummili” during his incarceration in a now viral video has put his character to continue to lead the community to question.

In the viral video, Okpala was seen addressing his supporters when he returned to the community after an early release from the Onitsha Correctional Centre where he served a sentence for contempt of court.

Bar. Okpala, who spoke in Igbo in the video, admitted to have used methamphetamine and other drugs which he did not mention their names during his stay in prison and threatened to stop anyone who stands in his way.

Reacting to the video, the Palace Secretary, Chief Ezeobianumba Ajaghaku who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, stated that at a time when the state government is fighting to end drug demand, trafficking and all forms of crimes in the state, a community leader of the status of a President General boldly making such claims in public is only but a call to anarchy.

* The Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Utilities and Water Resources, Hon. Golden Iloh, has led members of the committee on an oversight visit to inspect the ongoing installation of street lights at Unizik Junction, CBN road, among other places in Awka metropolis.

The inspection was part of the committee’s mandate to ensure quality execution of public utility projects.

According to Hon. Iloh, who is representing Ihiala Constituency Two, the street lights; numbering about four hundred and sixty-seven, are solar-powered and installed to light up major streets and public places for improved security at night.

The lawmaker said that the committee is satisfied with the progress of work, and urged the contractors handling the project to maintain the standard and ensure timely completion.

* Anambra Police together with other sister security agencies has launched Operation Udo Ga-Achi-Zero kidnapping and other violent crimes in Anambra State.

In his address, CP. Ikioye Orutugu in his address at the flag off at Amawbia Junction Awka alongside other service commanders in Anambra State, said the purpose of this Press Briefing today 14th April 2025 is to let Ndi Anambra and residents know after a review and evaluation of policing capabilities to nip in the bud serious crimes like Armed robbery, kidnapping, and other related situations, especially within this Easter period and beyond.

“The Police as the lead agency in internal security have emplaced an Operation code-named ‘Operation Udo ga chi Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes in the State’, a proactive template to assuage the fear of the unknown to effectively police the State by encouraging the great people of Anambra State to come home en-masse for this festive period.

“Let us reiterate that no one can take the glory alone in the efforts of sustaining safety and security in the State, as the Operation comprises the Police, the Army from 302 Artillery Regiment (GS), the Navy from the Naval Outpost, Department of State Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Vigilante and most importantly Ndi Anambra and its teeming populace who have resolved to work with the security agencies in sharing information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of kidnappers and other criminals’. The Police boss noted.

* APGA Media Warriors Forum National Coordinator, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has condemned All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Anambra November 8 election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, for disparaging remarks about the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Obigwe reacted to Ukachukwu’s comments on Channels TV, where he claimed to have contested against Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca Ojukwu, for the Anambra South Senatorial ticket and defeated her.

Obigwe described Ukachukwu’s statement as a “greatest insult” to Ojukwu’s memory and accused him of lying shamelessly on national television.

He also alleged that Ukachukwu secured his party’s nominations through manipulation, citing the 2023 APGA senatorial primary election where Ukachukwu emerged candidate through allegedly swapping authentic delegate lists with fake ones.

According to Obigwe, Ukachukwu’s emergence as APC’s candidate for the November 8, 2025, governorship election was also marred by controversy, with mass defections and resignations from the party.

* Anambra APC governorship candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu claims President Bola Tinubu has backed him to unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Ukachukwu said: “Mbadiniju did one tenure, what stops Soludo from doing one tenure? I have Tinubu’s backing to unseat Soludo in Anambra.

However, his claim sparked criticism on social media. A Facebook user, Emmanuel Ojukwu, responded: “Using President Tinubu’s name to politic in Anambra is not right. Tinubu went to Enugu and praised PDP Governor Peter Mbah because of his good works.

* President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Chief Sir Basil Ejidike, Anambra State APC Chairman as the Chairman, Governing Board National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike.

In a Letter of Appointment dated 28th March, 2025, The Secretary to the Government of the Federation noted that of Chief Basil Ejidike is a Call to National Service. The appointment takes effect from 26th March, 2025.

Chief Basil Ejidike while Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another honour done to him and Anambra APC says the appointment is a beautiful addition to the list of presidential appointments to Anambra state and APC, underscoring Mr. President’s appreciation of members and leaders of the party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and the people of the state.
