# ‎The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Architect Obi Okonkwo, has directed contractors handling the construction of a modern six-courtrooms and Court of Appeal courtroom complex in Awka to ensure strict compliance with approved building plans.

‎ Okonkwo gave the directive during an on-site inspection tour conducted by officials of the Ministry, accompanied by principal staff members.

He emphasized that adherence to the project specifications would help prevent unnecessary rework during subsequent inspections.

‎During the inspection, the Permanent Secretary expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work completed so far. However, he identified certain areas that requires adjustments ahead of the planned commissioning of the project by the state governor.

‎He also commended the governor for his visionary leadership and ongoing infrastructural development across the state, particularly within the judiciary sector.

# Residents of Anambra State are expressing growing concern following a fresh increase in the price of cooking gas, as the ripple effects of recent adjustments by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) continue to impact households and businesses.

The development follows a broader upward review in gas pricing by the NMDPRA, which raised the domestic base price of natural gas to $2.18 per MMBtu effective April 2026, citing market realities and regulatory provisions under the Petroleum Industry Act.

At a gas retail outlet in Nkpor, a dealer, Mr. Jude Okafor, expressed that the increase has significantly reduced patronage.

A food vendor in Nkpor Mr. Emeka Obi, noted that the rising cost is affecting his business.

He said that with the hike, many households in Anambra and across Nigeria may be forced to seek alternative energy sources, raising concern about environmental and health implications.

# The CEO of Pineleaf Estate and Properties Limited, has gifted our several shuttle buses to people who bought land from his newly launched estate.

Archbishop Onyeka Nzekwesi revealed the news a few days after he launched a new phase of Landed properties.

# The Anambra State Police Command has deployed sixty (60) Safe School Operatives across designated centres to monitor the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations scheduled to hold from 15th to 26th April 2026, in order to ensure safety, security, and orderliness throughout the exercise.

The deployment with the Operational base located in the respective eight (8) Police Area Command in the State is coordinated by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo, forms part of the Command’s proactive measures under the Safe School Initiative aimed at providing a secure environment for candidates, invigilators, and examination officials, while preventing any form of malpractice, disruption, or security breach.

# A wave of emotion and excitement has swept through Lilu community in Ihiala LGA, following the return of a man identified as “General Azike,” who had reportedly stayed away for six years amid severe insecurity.

Residents were seen celebrating in viral videos as the controversial figure made his long-awaited return to the community, which had been severely impacted by years of violent disruption linked to armed criminal groups operating in parts of the state.

In the footage, jubilant indigenes gathered around him alongside the traditional ruler of Lilu, expressing relief and hope that normal life is finally returning after years of fear and displacement. The monarch also commended renewed security efforts in Anambra State, praising authorities for restoring relative calm in previously troubled communities.

The return of General Azike also sparked attention as he was seen visiting his long-abandoned mansion, now overtaken by weeds and visible decay. Sections of the building reportedly bear bullet marks, a grim reminder of the violence that once forced many residents of Lilu in Anambra State to flee their homes.

# Chief Ebuka Onunkwo has declared his intention to run for the Anambra South Senatorial Seat in 2027.

# The Site Engineer of Datum Construction Company at Akpo axis, Aguata LGA, Mr Bako Yohanna has poured encomiums on Anambra State communities for their civility to accommodating construction firms as Governor Chukwuma Soludo turns Anambra State into construction site.

He said this in an interaction with newsmen while laying stone base, at Uga-Amesi-Akpo- Ogboji Road, in Aguata LGA.

Yohanna pleaded with them not to relent but maximize support to Governor Soludo’s government and style of governance for optimal benefits. He described Soludo’s emergence as governor as an opportunity to developing Anambra State.

# The Oba Healthcare and Wellness Committee, made up of indigenes living in the diaspora, has sponsored the enrollment of 257 persons into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA) through its widely acclaimed Adoption Model.

The adoption followed a successful medical outreach conducted at Oba Trauma Centre, Idemili South Local Government Area, where members of the community received medical screening and consultation services.

Beneficiaries were subsequently enrolled into ASHIA to ensure continued access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Chairman of the Oba Healthcare and Wellness Committee, Dr. Benjamin Mozie, reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of Oba indigenes, particularly the vulnerable population, by facilitating their access to healthcare services through the Adoption Model initiative.

Speaking for ASHIA, Nneoma Anoliefo commended the committee for embracing the Adoption Model, describing it as a sustainable way for individuals and groups to support the health needs of their communities.

Anoliefo noted that the initiative ensures beneficiaries can access medical care without financial hardship.

# A House of Assembly Aspirant for Anambra East Constituency under the platform of APGA, Mr Oguejiofor Chidebelu says his election into the State Assembly will give him the opportunity to improve the living conditions of young people and transform the constituency.

The aspirant while speaking in an interview with newsmen in Umueri, noted that his ambition to represent six communities of Aguleri, Umueri, Igbariam, Nando, Nsugbe and Umuoba Anam come 2027 is to upscale his service to impact the constituency.

Chidebelu, assured of his clear people oriented programmes anchored on youth engagement and empowerment in the areas of skill acquisition and agriculture.

While assuring to render people oriented service, he argued that Umueri community has never produced State Assemblyman in the constituency and called for necessary support to break the jinx.

# The decision of Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to delist the already recognized leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is akin to committing a murder that cannot be condoned.

These were the words of the Senator representing Anambra Central Zone on the platform of ADC, Sir Victor Umeh, a position shared by Hon Victor Ogene of the Federal House.

Umeh who spoke to journalists shortly after an emergency meeting of ADC big wigs in Awka, assured supporters of the party that INEC’s decision would collapse as it ran counter to the country’s Electoral Law and subsisting court judgements.
