*  Peter University will hold its maiden matriculation ceremony on Friday, April 19. His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke will be the chief host of the event which is expected to have Catholic bishops of Awka; Nnewi respectively in attendance, along with governors, prominent academic scholars, frontline government personalities, political leaders and captains of industry in the South East in attendance. Over two hundred fresh students of the varsity will be inducted in the occasion which will be a historical first of the citadel located in Achina and Onne towns of Aguata and Orumba local councils respectively, in Anambra State.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo was among the top dignitaries that graced the Thanksgiving Mass organized to celebrate the elevation of Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya, to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. During the event, Soludo while highlighting their shared experiences as proud alumni of Uga Boys Secondary School. The governor spoke about the values and education that have contributed to Justice Obande’s successful legal career. 

* Ongoing urbanization in Anambra State has received a boost with the unveiling of Soul City Estate in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. At the launch and unveiling dinner in Awka, the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Mr Don Onyenji, traced the massive urbanization going on in various parts of the state to the giant strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the area of road infrastructure. 

The Commissioner explained that the state, which remains the safest in the country, is fast becoming the first investment destination for both Nigerians and foreigners. 

* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze has layed the Foundation of a cassava processing plant in Atani Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state. Udeze while performing the foundation laying for the plant, said it will be completed in record time. According to the Speaker, the project which is part of his contribution to his constituency, will serve the entire Ogbaru when completed.

Udeze noted that flooding always force people of the area to harvest and sell of their farm produce without making expected gains. 

* Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka in collaboration with the Centre for Bioethics and Research (CBR), University of Ibadan has held a two-day training for her teaching staff on research ethics, grant writing and intellectual property. The two-day workshop was held from the Chisco Institute for Transportation Studies with the caption: “Institutional Training on Responsible Conduct of Research.” In his remarks while declaring the event open, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone commended the centre for the wonderful assignment which he said resonates with his vision of ‘Project 200’. The VC described the training as strategic and essential for teaching staff as it will enhance their capacity research wise and aid their competence in the aspect of securing funding for intensive research via available national and international grants.

* Hon. Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s unwavering dedication to the protection and empowerment of women in Anambra State. Speaking in Awka, Obinabo attributed her accomplishments to the immense support received from Governor Soludo, who prioritized the safeguarding of women by assigning her a clear mandate.

* 50 personalities out of 1, 260 nominees were honoured at Mbanese clan in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State for their various contributions towards the development of the area. Presenting the awards, a media guru and Chief Executive Officer of Mainstream Communications Ltd, Ogbuefi Akwudoleze Ifeme said the task of rallying the indigenes of the five autonomous communities of Akwaihedi; Ebenator; Ezinifite; Osumenyi and Utuh was a herculean one.

He, however, noted that the event that took place at Utuh town hall was to celebrate Mbanese’s best and brightest, through the honours and award series which he called the clan’s Hall of Fame.

* A dance group under the aegis of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Dance Group has been officially launched in Nnewi. The ceremony which took place at Obi Onyekaba Nnewichi Nnewi palace attracted dignitaries within and outside the state. In an interview with the father of the dance group who is the Chairman of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Nnewi North and Chairman of all Chairmen Anambra South, Hon. Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, expressed joy for a wonderful day like that and thanked the grand patron and also the woman leader of YPP, Mrs Chioma Izundu.

* No fewer than 70 residents of Inland Town of Onitsha, Anambra State have benefitted from the medical check up of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) Onitsha Chapter. The medical outreach included free Blood Pressure test, Blood Sugar test and General Medical Examination. Speaking during the free Medical test, President of NAS Onitsha Chapter, Engr Emeka Uwaechia said the intervention was in line with the organisation’s mission of being at the vanguard of battling various forms of vices against just society. He explained that the gesture was part of the group’s humanitarian activities of giving back to the society as corporate organisation.

* The Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Anambra State Chapter has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a sum of one billion naira to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

The State Chairman of NASME, Mr. Chinemerem Oguegbe, who gave the commendation while speaking to journalists shortly after the Association’s monthly meeting in Awka, on Thursday.said the support will unlock their full potential and ensure a long-term success for his registered members.
