# The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Bond Anyaehie has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to forge a stronger partnership and collaboration with the members of the university host communities geared towards greater productivity and positive returns to all stakeholders.
The Vice Chancellor spoke while receiving a delegation from the Association of the Seven Villages of Awka in his office.
The delegation, led by Sir Charles Nwachukwu comprised representatives from the seven host communities of the university: Umuzocha, Umunoke, Amudo, Ifite, Nkwelle, Umuoramma, and Amachalla.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Sir. Nwachukwu emphasized that the communities remain the traditional landlords of the land on which the university is built.
# Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, on Tuesday visited the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), office in Awka to formally declare his intention to contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat.
Speaking, Chief. Nwankwo, stated that his decision to join the race is driven by a commitment to serve the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District.
According to Nwankwo, his ambition aligns with the ongoing developmental strides of governor Chukwuma Soludo and he intends to build on the existing policies and achievements of the current administration.
# For Barrister Chukwudi Oli, House of Reps aspirant for Dunukofia, Njikoka, Anaocha Federal Constituency, service to his people remains top of his priorities, the reason he had to sell his 2014 G-Wagon he bought for N68m for half the price in order to build a road in his village.
Addressing newsmen in his country home, Nri, in Anaocha LGA, the lawyer-turned politician said he had done roads and built houses for his people, even as he was building a stadium that would be the best in Anambra.
While praising past and present representatives for doing well, he however said no one could perform beyond their capacity and pointed out that he represented capacity.
Contending that the government of Prof Chukwuma Soludo was doing well, Oli, said he would complement what Soludo was doing, promising to liberate his people in the constituency, the way he had liberated his people of Nri.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra Sector Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives and prompt rescue services through the successful rescue of a victim and subsequent hospital follow-up, in line with the Corps Marshal’s 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1.
FRSC operatives rescued a male adult found in distress by the roadside opposite the FRSC Office along the Awka-Enugu Expressway.
The rescue team, arrived at the scene and completed the evacuation within 5 minutes.
The victim, who sustained no injuries in the incident, but was unconscious,
was immediately taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, for urgent medical attention.
# A tech driven centre, known as Ayke Anthony Okechukwu Innovation Hub has been commissioned in Awka, with a call on youths to leverage the opportunity and equip themselves with all the necessary and basic technological skills and information that will stand them out in today’s digital world.
The commissioning of the hub, built in loving memory of the late Ayke Anthony Okechukwu, was preceded by a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Secretary to the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rev. Fr Evaristus Ifeanacho.
Speaking, the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, stressed the need for individuals and institutions to prioritise innovation, warning that any nation that neglected the new technology was bound to fail.
# A terrifying fire outbreak shook Ngozika Estate, as flames tore through a one-storey duplex at No. 22 Street, leaving behind a trail of destruction but miraculously no casualties.
The alarm was raised, triggering a swift emergency response from the Anambra State Fire Service. Within minutes, firefighters raced to the scene, where they were confronted with an intense blaze already consuming parts of the building.
The fire crew launched immediate suppression operations, managing to contain the inferno before it could leap to adjoining homes in the densely populated estate. Their quick action averted what could have been a devastating spread across the neighborhood.
# St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ichida, has been officially rededicated, with a solemn and well-attended ceremony that brought together the clergy, parishioners, and guests, marking a significant milestone following the renovation of the church.
The rededication Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, who consecrated the altar and blessed the church building in line with Catholic liturgical rite.
In his homily, the Bishop commended the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Michael-Jude Nwajiobi; and the parishioners, for their dedication and hard work in making the renovation and rededication possible. He encouraged them to sustain the momentum by extending similar efforts to the parish house and the church hall, even as he lightheartedly challenged the parish to complete those projects within one year.
# The Anambra State Government through the Office of the Head of Service has issued a notice directing all persons engaged in farming activities within the undeveloped parcel of land at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka, to vacate and deliver possession of the premises within seven days.
The notice, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs Nkiru Jessie Nwankwo, Esq, instructs farmers to: Cease all farming operations on the land immediately and to remove all crops, tools, equipment, and personal belongings from the premises by April 17 this year.
The notice stated that after the seven-day period expires, the Anambra State Government will take full possession of the land, and any remaining crops or materials will be removed or disposed of by the authorities.
The directive applies to all individuals farming on the specified land. Replies should be addressed to the Head of Service.
# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has exhorted the Catholic Faithful in Agulu, Anaocha LGA, to work hard to have a strong passion and zeal for the heavenly race in order to gain everlasting life in heaven.
Bishop Ezeokafor gave this charge while delivering a homily during his Pastoral Visit to St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Agulu.
Reminding the Agulu Catholic Faithful that life did not end, but only changed, the Bishop enjoined them to strive to save their souls, arguing that anyone who lost their soul lost everything.
He further urged them to target heaven in all they did, socially and spiritually.
# The CEO of Stanel Group, Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu says he is not after titles but strong responsibility to take the Advancement Management Board of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka to greater heights.
Uzochukwu stated this when he delivered his Inaugural Address as Chairman, UNIZIK Advancement Management Board held at the school’s main campus in Awka.
Dr. Uzochukwu said he will bring strategic thinking, bold partnerships, and a relentless drive for excellence in the university’s Business School.
Speaking on the composition of the Board, the UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, Prof Stanley Bond Anyaehie said the board comprises strategic partners, friends, alumni and staff of the university vested with the task of its advancement.
