* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has extended hearty felicitations to Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, OON, on the occasion of his birthday.

Soludo in his congratulatory message expressed great pleasure and a deep sense of admiration for Dr. Ikpeazu’s unblemished reputation for excellence and distinction, not only as a highly respected senior member of the legal fraternity in Nigeria but also as a distinguished son of Anambra State who has acquitted himself creditably. 

* The Vice Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, has meet with Portuguese Ambassador to Nigeria, HE, Paulo, Martins Santos to explore areas of collaboration and linkages in language studies. Prof. Omenugha emphasized that her visit to the Ambassador is in pursuance of her resolve to vigorously entrench visibility, which is one of the “3Vs strategic policy which is values, viability, and visibility of the Institution.

* Leaders of political parties and the people of Anambra North has pledged their unwavering support for Mr. Valentine Ozigbo ahead of the 2025 Anambra Governorship election. The well-attended interactive session held at Onitsha, presented Mr. Ozigbo with a glaring moment to appreciate the unalloyed support of the good people of Anambra North towards Mr. Peter Obi’s Presidential movement and success regardless of the eventual outcome. In his opening remark to the large audience, Ozigbo expressed gratitude to the stakeholders and people of Anambra North. He said: “I’m glad and consider it a great privilege being here in your midst today to strategize on how to make Anambra State work again through us.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze has described Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu as an outstanding legal luminary who has continued to use his legal profession to champion the cause of humanity. In his Goodwill Message to Dr. Ikpeazu on behalf of the State Legislature as he marks his birthday, Udeze maintained that the renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria has made Nigeria and Anambra State proud in view of his numerous accomplishments in the legal profession.

The Speaker who expressed satisfaction that Dr.Ikpeazu has through sound legal training and glorious practice, become a legal reference authority in Nigeria, extolled his candour, courage, wisdom as well as experience which he has continued to exhibit in the law courts.

* Moves to ensure mutual understanding, peaceful co-habitation and unity among Ndi Aguleri-Otu in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State were made by stakeholders and other illustrious sons and daughters of the communities at the Enugwu-Otu Mkpunando Day celebration. The celebration was championed by Ndi Odimma Enugwu-Otu Mkpunando Aguleri.

It is aimed at building strong love and unity among the two communities by building mutual understanding, brotherliness, unity and progress. 

* Joint Campus Council (JCC), Anambra axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected a new leadership to pilot the affairs of students in the state for a new dispensation. The participatory institutions comprises; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State Polytenic Mgbakwu, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Federal Polytenic Oko, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze and Metallurgical Training Institue Onitsha. The election which was held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka produced Comrade Mathew Okoye Okpala, a student from the Department of Political Science, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, as the new Chairman of the State.

* Firefighters in Anambra State have been charged to be more proactive and hardworking in the discharge of their duties going forward, so as to minimize the incidences of fire outbreaks in the state and the damages that result therefrom. The new Fire Chief of the Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Chukwudi Emmanuel Chiketa, gave the charge during his three-day tour across the stations and facilities of the Service in different parts of the State.

* Transition Council Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Emeka Orji has been conferred chieftaincy title of ‘Dike Di Ebube’ by St. Domnic’s Catholic Church Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State. Expressing his gratitude to the Catholic Community, Hon. Orji said he was delighted for the honour, reminding them that the major impediment in Fegge is gutters, attributing it to location of Fegge.

He affirmed that he assured Fegge Community during stakeholders meeting that he would make a positive change in Fegge, explaining that he commenced aggressive desilting of gutters before he embarked on road construction.

* Coordinator, Recover Nigeria Project and Coordinator Anambra Keke Drivers Forum, Comrade Osita Obi has insisted that the Anambra State Government must expose and bring to book anti-tout officers who mercilessly brutalised one Wilfred Ikechukwu Ezike popularly called Mgbiligba Anambra as captured in a viral video that elicited widespread public outcry in the recent past. Obi expressed worry that after a long while, government was yet to fulfill its promise that it would expose as well as punish anti-tout officers who used pestle to damage Mgbiligba’s legs, in a most barbaric manner, as they brutalised him in the viral video without recourse to his fundamental rights as a human being. Obi maintained that such callousness and treachery should not be swept under the carpet and that it was not enough to merely issue a statement without corresponding actions.

* Arrangements and program of activities have been slated for the burial of former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Pius Ezeife. Recall that Chief Ezeife, who was the Governor of Anambra state from January 2, 1992 to November 1993 passed away in his Abuja residence on December 14, 2023, at the prime age of 85. According to a burial poster signed by Mr. Paul Nwosu, the State Commissioner for Information, the former Governor will be given a state burial, with the obsequies commencing with some pre-burial events, which include: Service of Songs at the Ecumenical Centre, FCT Abuja (slated for April 12, 2024, at 5.pm); Celebration of Life and Times of Okwadike at the Eagle Square, FCT, Abuja (slated for April 13, at 10.am); and National Night of Tributes at Thisday Dome, FCT, Abuja, (slated for April 15, at 5.pm). These will be followed by State Burial Events, which include: State Commendation and Thanksgiving Service at the International Conference Centre, Awka (slated for April 19, at 10.am) with tributes commencing immediately after Service; Service of Songs at his country home, Igboukwu, by the Salvation Army Church, (slated for April 19, at 5.pm)
