* The Open Government Partnership (OGP) has officially announced Anambra East Local Government Area as the first LGA in Nigeria to join it as a member. Open Government Partnership (OGP) is an international partnership that brings together government and civil society organizations to create ambitious reforms to open up governments and better respond to citizens’ needs.

* * The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Most Rev. P.C. Ezeokafor has
tasked parents on proper upbringing of their children as Holy Mary did to Jesus Christ, adding that every child is created in the likeness of Christ and has flesh and soul. He also warned that both the spiritual and the physical growths of every child should not be neglected, and that no parents should be too busy to train or give adequate attention to their children, as every parent must be held accountable for every child God entrusted in their hands.
The Catholic Bishop also frowned at Igbo parents who despise, do not teach, or allow their children to learn/speak their indigenous (Igbo) language, describing it as a big shame that most Igbo children and even Igbo parents cannot speak their native language.

* Students of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, have staged a protest against incessant imposition of fees on them by the school management. The students carried different placards with inscriptions such as “reduce the cost of texts books”; “allow us to do our medical and data capture”; “say no to corrupt stakeholders” ; “say no to exam fees”; “breakdown our tuition fees etc. The protest was provoked by a recent imposition of a compulsory N5000 examination fees and the insistence of the school management to deny those who have not paid the alleged fees from writing their exams.

* Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje says Correctional Centers for Juveniles will be established in order to decongest, ensure speedy trial, specific days for criminal, civil matters thereby upholding rights of inmates awaiting trial.
Ifemeje revealed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to having a Correctional Centers for juveniles in conflict with the law in the state. She explained that the absence of the centers has been creating problems in character reformation in a congested facility.

* Bishop, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Awka Diocese Rt. Rev. Onyekachi Nwakanma says government has remained insensitive to the sufferings and plights of the people. Nwakanma stated this while delivering his address at the 2024 Diocesan Synod held at the Cathedral of Holy Trinity, Amenyi-Awka.
Bishop Nwakanma decried the economical, political, religious and social crisis bedeviling the country, stating that Nigeria is abundantly and richly blessed with both human and natural resources but yet it has continued to deteriorate.

* A Non-Governmental Organization, Social and Integral Development Centre, SIDEC has launched a sensitization and awareness creation campaign on the destructive impacts of climate change on women and girls in Anambra State. The week-long exercise tagged “Climate Change and You” will be implemented under the Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (WVL-Nigeria), a five-year project anchored by Action Aid Nigeria and funded by Global Affairs Canada to tackle barriers to gender equality and support empowerment of women and girls through provision of financial and technical resources to local feminist/women’s rights organizations in Nigeria. According to the Executive Director, SIDEC, Ugochi Agalaba-Ehiahuruike, the “Climate Change and You” project in Anambra State is aimed at empowering women farmers in the selected LGAs and communities with requisite information and knowledge which will help them to cope better with the its negative impacts.

* Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command on credible Intelligence, trailed and arrested two suspects for engaging in illegal mining activities in Anambra State.
According to a release by SC Okadigbo Edwin, NYSDC Public Relations Officer Anambra State Commandant, the suspects, Madueke Akpuchukwu ‘m’ aged 53 from Awomama town in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State and Chimezie Ezenduka ‘m’ aged 54 of No 4 All Mekus Drive Federal Housing Onitsha were apprehended at Igbariam conveying suspected solid mineral (Kaolin ) without relevant permit. The State Commandant of NSCDC, Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde while parading the suspects at the State Headquarters on Wednesday commended the Command’s Mining Marshal Squad led by ACC Agunwa Osita for acting on the strength of the information to apprehend the economic saboteurs.
