* The Mayor of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, has officially declared Orumba South an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) territory as part of his administration’s strategic vision for the 2025 elections.
In his address to party loyalists and community members at Nkwo Umunze during a working visit by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to APGA’s Solution Agenda, which aims to address critical issues affecting the local community and enhance residents’ quality of life.
Azubuike outlined key initiatives forming the foundation of the Solution Agenda, including economic development, youth empowerment, healthcare improvement, and infrastructural advancement.
* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr. Chris Molokwu has been given a National Community Policing Campaign, NCPC 2025 award of Longtime Achievement Award of Excellent.
Mr. Molokwu was also decorated as NCPC Best Ambassador on Public Services, Leadership Services, Crime Prevention and Community Policing.
Presenting the award to the ABS MD, Anambra state Commissioner of Police, represented by his Officer In charge of Community Policing, OC Oluchukwu Anaemenam, said community policing is every body’s business, calling on every community to partner them in community policing to bring crime to barest minimum by saying something whenever they see something even as he frowned at parents who cover their children’s crime which he said can only aid crime instead of bringing it to an end.
Responding, Mr Molokwu appreciated them for the honour done him and prayed for the grace to live up to expectations since the award is a call for more responsibility.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) has vowed to step up its regulatory supervision as the only Federal Government approved regulatory body over private security guard companies in Anambra state.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant stated when he played host to Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) Anambra State Chapter at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
The NSCDC state boss emphasised the need for private security companies to operate professionally, updating their records and building cordial relationships with the NSCDC and other conventional security agencies.
He promised to enhance the activities of private security guard companies in Anambra State to conform with the laid-down procedures guiding the operations of PGCs in the country.
* Ojoto Union North America has launched its online software training programme on programming and developing software coding and clouding.
The initiative is part of their broader commitment to the development of the community through human capital development especially in the digital tech space.
In her opening remarks, the National President of Ojoto North America Union, Dr Chikodi Ugokwe-Udemba said that the Union has invested $40,000 in the project and paid $560 as training fee for each of the 48 beneficiaries of the training programme.
Speaking, the Traditional Ruler of the community, lgwe Gerald Mbamalu, enumerated many capital intensive developmental projects that have been embarked upon by the people of Ojoto in the diaspora and expressed optimism that this project which empowers their young people with the skills needed in today’s world will transform the community.
* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has carried out an inspection of the ongoing construction at the Solution Innovation District.
The Committee Chairman, Engr. Emma Nwafor, in his speech, expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded on the site, while noting that the project, a two-suspended-floor structure awarded by the state government is gradually taking shape.
During the inspection, the committee observed that the beams, columns, cement and concrete mixtures met standard specifications, saying that the committee is impressed with the pace and quality of the project.
The contractor handling the project, Engr. Awolaja Olalekan while briefing the lawmakers on the progress, challenges, assured timely completion of the project.
* A Joint Security Team, comprising Police from Oba Divisional Headquarters and Anambra Vigilante Operatives during a raid in an uncompleted building at Isu village, Oba arrested six (6) suspects who allegedly hired sick persons to beg for alms from members of the public.
The suspects are Doris Basil, aged 28 years, Peter Ezedike, aged 38 years, Susan Monday, aged 27 years, Ogechi Okoro, aged 27 years, Solomon Sunday, aged 29 years and Kenneth Achi, aged 29 years.
According to Police Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the Operatives also recovered six mobile phones and Eighty-two thousand, four hundred naira (#82,400) in denominations of #50, #100 and #200 Naria notes and took in safe custody four ill persons from appearance suffering from brain tumour, breast cancer, and other terminal sicknesses.
The Operatives also provided first aid for the sick persons and sought higher intervention for their treatment and safe return to their various homes.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu noted that Section 419 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act deals with obtaining property by false pretense, also known as “419 fraud”.
* Many support groups are encouraging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to do more so as to actualize his vision and mission of placing Anambra at the world map.
One of such Support Groups are Ochendo Vanguard For Soludo which is a non governmental organization poised to promote good governance, support to the present administration in grass root mobilization and in providing succor to the downthrowden and the poor .
Ochendo Vanguard For Soludo has been existing for years now and is in about ten local government council’s and thought it wise to inaugurate Ogbaru Local Government Area where Governor Chukwuma Soludo did wonders in changing once a slum area to new heaven and modernized Okpoko to better the lives of those living in the area.
While inaugurating the new executives of the group in the presence of other members at Onitsha, the founder and leader of Ochendo Vanguard For Soludo, High Chief Inno-Posh Chikezie who spoke through Sir Chinedu Mbamalu said that having seen the transformation agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Okpoko and other Ogbaru axis, they dimed it fit to inaugurate the chapter to as to embark on grass root mobilization in ensuring that Governor Soludo win landslide in that area.
The State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Ebelechukwu Onyedum, appreciated the founder of the group for sponsoring and supporting the governor to succeed with his finances saying that with the inauguration, they’ will serve as agents to the developmental mission of the solution agenda.
* The President General of Nnobi Welfare Organization in Idemili South LGA, Bar. Dominic-Savio Okpala, has called on the Anambra State Government to wield the big stick against enemies of peace and progress in the community in order to stop Nnobi from sliding into anarchy.
Barrister Okpala made the call while reacting to a news report in which he said that two individuals in the community, Chief Daniel Ajaghaku; Palace Secretary, and Mr Emeka Okwelume; Chairman of Awuda quarters mischievously and vainly tried to misinterpret his innocent expression used figuratively to describe his ordeals in detention, stressing that he has never been involved in taking illicit drugs in his entire life.
Barrister Okpala, who recalled the state government’s efforts to ensure peace in the community, as well as other failed peace moves by worthy sons of the town, said he and others have paid the price of peace in Nnobi, adding that the rest is on the part of the accused and their collaborators to complement.
* A ‘save our soul’ message has been sent to Governor Chukwuma Soludo over the erection of illegal structures on flood channels along Asha Street by School Road in Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Council Area.
Also erected was perimeter fencing housing a block industry thereby blocking the Asha road that will lead to Second Niger Bridge when constructed.
Speaking to newsmen, Mr Uchenna Enyinwa who pointed out that the said Street which is usually over flooded during the rainy season regretted that people usually lost their lives every year due to flood waters in that street.
The Chairman Iyiowa community Landlord and Tenant Association Mr Sunday Obinze who confirmed that the perimeter fencing is blocking the Asha road, noted that the Anambra State Physical Planning Board has marked it for removal directed the owner of the block industry Mr Onyebuchi Iseke to remove the building which serves as an office and the perimeter fencing to give way for easy passage.
* Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex socio-cultural group of the Igbo people, has restated its commitment to championing the cause of the Igbo nation.
The President Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Anambra State chapter, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, who stated this during a one-day enlightenment retreat for new Anambra executive members of the organization in Awka, assured that the group will continue to uphold its core mandate, which is the protection of Igbo people’s collective interests without religious and or political inducement.
In their various remarks, the immediate past National Vice President of the group, Ichie Damian Okeke-Ogene, his state President, Chief Chukwuemeka Udodeme, and the former National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpaudo, reminded members of the executive of the need to uphold the tenets of the association at all times, and always remember that they are the torch bearers of the Igbo nation and as such should be at the forefront in the promotion and propagation of the Igbo’s values, culture and tradition.
On their parts, the Anambra State Woman Leader of the group, Mrs Joy Onyekwere, and the State Secretary, Mr Ikechukwu Offorkansi, called on Igbo parents to endeavor to teach their children Igbo language and culture.
