# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Sector Command, has conducted a church outreach to the Life of Faith Gospel Assembly in Onitsha
Addressing the congregation, on the topic “Getting to your destination safely is in your hands”, Anambra Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno emphasized that human actions, not spirits, cause crashes.
Asekhauno advised parents to always secure their babies in the back seat of the car, avoid using phones while driving, and not overload vehicles. She also urged everyone to obey traffic laws and regulations and to share safety messages with the grassroots.
The FRSC boss further highlighted the importance of following road signs and markings, stating that they are meant to guide or warn road users and prevent accidents.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety and encourages everyone to prioritize safety on the highways.
# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has appealed to the priests in the Diocese to preach gospel that strengthens souls and builds faith.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who made the appeal while delivering a homily at the 2026 Cathedraticum and Chrism Mass for Nimo Region of the Diocese, also advised the faithful in the Region to free themselves from shackles of sin to gain the salvation of Jesus Christ.
The Prelate who highlighted some issues of importance, such the need for total compliance with the Anambra State Burial Law by the faithful in the Region, thanked them, for their support in the Cathedraticum.
# The Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Prof Theresa Obumneme Okoli has urged the graduating students to be worthy ambassadors of the institution by focusing on building a sustainable career rather than engaging in antisocial behaviours.
The Provost stated this during the 30th joint convocation ceremony for the award of Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) which took place at the College Convocation arena.
Prof. Okoli in her speech, urged the students to shun the lure of cyber crime that has become common among youths in the country but strive to build a life time career.
She advised the graduating students not to neglect investing in knowledge by pursuing postgraduate studies while expressing optimism that the graduands will in no distant time become job creators especially in this era of entrepreneurship.
# An African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholder in Anambra, Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa, has donated ₦1 million to support beneficiaries of the “One Girl, Two Skills” Empowerment Programme, reinforcing efforts to promote skills acquisition and entrepreneurship among young women.
The donation was announced during the graduation ceremony of the programme held at Obi Uruagu Palace, Nnewi, Anambra State, where participants who underwent months of vocational training were formally celebrated.
The initiative, organised by Hon. Mrs. Ijeoma Ike in collaboration with Nnewi Progressive Mandate, trained young girls aged 16 and above in practical, income-generating skills, including cosmetology, makeup artistry, cake and pastry production, and event decoration.
Speaking at the event, Lotanna commended the organisers for what he described as a “forward-looking intervention,” noting that empowering young women with relevant skills remains key to reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth.
# Students under the umbrella of National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS), has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s aggressive fight against cultism in Awka, schools and across the 21 local government areas in the state.
The students argued that since the assumption of Prof Soludo as the governor of Anambra State in 2022, many students have graduated without anyone forcing them to join cultism as it was in previous administrations.
The commendation was made by the National President of NUASS, Comrade Felix Nwachinemelu, on behalf of the students during it 2026 Anambra Students Cultural Fiesta’s 2.0, held at Awka City Stadium Awka,
According to him, Soludo has signed a law prohibiting Secret Cults in Anambra State. This measure seeks to ban the formation and operation of clandestine cult groups, impose stringent penalties on offenders, and reinforce the state’s efforts to maintain public order and security.
# It was a spirit-filled and soul-lifting moment as Anglican and other Christian faithful gathered in Awka for the 2026 Awka Diocesan Lenten Prayer Convention.
The convention, with the theme, “God Is a Consuming Fire,” drawn from Hebrews 12:29, featured prayers, a salvation message, deliverance sessions, testimonies of God’s blessings, and altar calls.
The convention, initiated by the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, upon his assumption of office as Bishop of Awka, has become a platform for Christians to earnestly seek God’s face at the end of the Lenten season.
Speaking at the programme, which was held at the Chapel of Redemption, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Most Reverend Ibezim said that since the inception of the programme in 2011, it has continued to be a spiritual and soul-lifting moment of grace and thanksgiving, as many burdens are lifted during the prayer convention.
# Stakeholders in Anambra State have called for improved welfare, better working conditions and stricter discipline within the civil service following the recent unscheduled visit of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Addressing newsmen, the Chairman Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Anambra State (ARPSAS), Sir Nwabuonu Ogbaji, described the situation in the civil service as a moment for reflection and renewal.
Ogbaji said that while efforts to enforce discipline among workers are commendable, there is also need to create a conducive working environment that will encourage productivity.
According to him, adequate welfare, training and motivation of civil servants remain critical to achieving efficiency in the system. He noted that most workers would be committed to their duties if properly supported.
He, however, urged civil servants to remain dedicated to their responsibilities despite prevailing economic challenges, stressing that absenteeism and lateness to work are unacceptable.
# The Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has rescue two kidnapped children and arrest the suspected child trafficker in Onitsha.
The rescue information was contained in a statement signed and made available to Journalists by the Agency’s Spokesperson, Karen James.
According to Karen James, the suspect, identified as Mr. Sunday Nome from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State was apprehended at Nkpor following intelligence-led efforts by SASA operatives.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the children for ₦3.5 million as part of an alleged trafficking network. He further disclosed that he had brought the children to Onitsha to meet an accomplice, identified as Mrs. Uju, who allegedly introduced him into the illicit trade.
Preliminary findings revealed that the children, aged three and eight, were temporarily lodged in a hotel in Nkpor before the suspect returned to Sagamu, where he resides.
Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, SASA operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, leading to the safe rescue of the victims.
