* The Department of Library and Information Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, will partner Training Centre in Communication (TCC) to host a capacity building workshop for the varsity academic community.

The one-day workshop, themed “Using Open Access Research Solutions to Improve the Academic Lifecycle for the Academic Community,” will be held virtually on Zoom, Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, at 10 am.

The workshop will have in attendance key stakeholders of the institution including the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu; University Librarian, Prof Stella Ngozi Anasi; Dean Faculty of Education, Prof Ebele Okigbo; and the Head of Library and Informations Science department, Dr Obiora Udem.

* High Chief Inno-Posh Chikezie, popularly known as Ide of Ichida, has empowered twenty indigent men from Ichida with brand new motorcycles ,worth over one point five million naira each.

The indigent men selected through open ballot system from the twenty villages that make up Ichida community were overjoyed when they received the empowerment.

Chief Chikezie also donated a cheque of one million naira and a laptop computer to the community Hospital, Saint Charles Galaxy Hospital, Ichida at the event which took place at the Ichida Civic Centre, at the presence of Ichida Progress Union executive as well as representatives from each of the villages in Anaocha council area.

Speaking on the reason for the gesture, the benefactor, Chief Chikezie accompanied by his wife, Ebele, explained that the motorcycles were given to the men whom he believe are responsible, to enable them carter for themselves and their families, hoping it will impact their lives positively and prayed God to give them grace and peace in the community as he hopes to do more for the community.

* The 2025 Njikoka Solution Re-Election Victory Tournament commenced with an exciting opening match between Nawfia and Nimo.

The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba,
while speaking during the official kick off of the tournament, urged the teams to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship.

The Mayor revealed that the aim of the tournament is to foster unity, youth engagement, and grassroots sportsmanship across the local government in accordance with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

According to Barr. Ononiba, this initiative aligns with the broader vision of promoting community cohesion and celebrating the achievements of the current administration through sports.

The opening match saw Nimo community secure a 1-0 victory over Nawfia, marking a spirited start to the tournament.

* The Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Amaka Obi has flagged-off construction of solar powered borehole water in Iruowelle village hall, Awka-Etiti.

The Mayor while speaking at the commissioning of the solar powered borehole, stated that the project is aimed at providing a sustainable and reliable water source for my people.

Hon. Obi also commissioned rehabilitated solar powered borehole water in Ogunzelle village, Awka-Etiti.

* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, has made a disturbing revelation, stating that some members of Anambra’s newly formed Agunechemba security outfit have allegedly turned into criminals themselves.

According to Emeakayi, reports reaching the government show that certain operatives now use their guns to extort money from the very people they were employed to protect.

Even more shocking, some of them have been accused of acting as security personnel during the day and turning into armed robbers and kidnappers at night.

Emeakayi also explained that many of these suspicious Agụnaechemba members have refused to come for proper verification—a process required by law before they can be paid or officially recognized. “If you are genuine, you should have nothing to hide,” he added.

* A trigger-happy gunman has been arrested in Anambra State, following the tragedy that struck the Unubi community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the State over the week.

The suspect had reportedly invaded the residence of a teacher couple, Mr. and Mrs. Nwokedi in the community and gruesomely shot their 15-year-old son, Somtochukwu Nwokedi, after which he also r@ped the sister.

According to reports, the masked assailant, armed with a pump-action gun, scaled the fence of the family’s compound and shot the boy at close range in the chest immediately he sighted him. He then, thereafter, grabbed Somtochukwu’s sister and r@ped her to his satisfaction, after which he escaped through the same route he came.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has extended season’s greetings and warm congratulations to Christians in Anambra State and across Nigeria on the happy celebration of Easter, which marks the end of the Lent season as well as commemorates the crucifixion, death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In his reflective goodwill message, Governor Soludo commended Christians for their prayers and consistent devotion to the virtues of sacrifice, solemnity, humility, and spiritual revival exhibited during the Lent.

Governor Soludo also lauded the inspiring significance of Easter’s lessons in selflessness, modesty, hope, renewal and harmony as personified by our Lord Jesus Christ, urging Christians to emulate Christ and take advantage of this season to reinforce the ideals of personal sacrifice for mutual tolerance and peaceful co-existence in our country.

* The Spiritual Director of God in Action Ministry, and Vicar St. Paul’s Parish Nwagu-Agulu in Anaocha LGA, Rev Canon Lumenchristi Eboh has prophesied a landslide victory for Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, declaring that other contenders are merely in the race to “fulfill all righteousness, as the outcome of the election has already been spiritually decided in Soludo’s favour.

This was one of the major prophecies released by Rev. Canon Eboh during God in Action Ministry’s adoration night with the theme, ” I Must Take Back My Seat”, during which he also celebrated his 45th birthday with members and non members of the ministry who came from across the state and beyond.

Rev. Canon Eboh noted that beyond Soludo’s efforts in redefining governance through infrastructural and human capital development, God has approved his second term in office for more selfless service to the people, urging the Governor not to relent in carrying out his transformative mission when re-elected, so as not to incur the wrath of God upon himself.

He advised Christians to always hold God firm and not to give up in the face of tribulation, as according to him, God will always come to their aid if they will remain faithful.

* Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command has sensitized members of the public on road safety measures during the Easter celebration to prevent accidents.

The sensitization was led by the Anambra State Sector Commander of FRSC, Comdt Joyce Alexander as they moved through Awka and environs, notably Amawbia by expressway through Zik’s Avenue to Eke Awka, Amaenyi, Ezeuzu and Aroma Junctions as well as UNIZIK Temp. Site, as educative flyers were shared to motorists and road users.

Alexander explained that sensitization is a continuous routine of the FRSC, only heightened during festivities like Easter to ensure the safety of road users traveling and moving for different purposes, charging passengers not to jeopardize their safety through cautioning drivers promptly emphasizing also that FRSC personnel are fully deployed for duties.

Some road users who spoke to newsmen emphasized that they are well prepared for the Easter traveling and are safety conscious including doing routine maintenance on their vehicles and having safety equipment like fire extinguisher.

* Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad/Anti-kidnapping Unit has arrested one Celestine Onuyia aged 52 years and Jacinta Okolo Udenka aged 45 years all residents of Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

During a search in their house, police
recovered one pump action gun, seven single barrel dane guns and twenty-eight live cartridges.

According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Command, the Operatives acting on information, extracted from the suspects during their interrogation, recovered two more AK47 rifles and two empty magazines in their criminal hideout at Omasi, Ayamelum LGA.

The Operatives have since been investigating a kidnap incident that occurred at Nnewi in July 2024, where a ransom of Seventeen million, Five hundred thousand Naira only (#17,500,000) was collected before the victim was released from their captivity.

Information also revealed that Mr. Celestine is allegedly a native doctor who provides criminal charms and keeps the weapons for the gang. At the same time, Mrs Jacinta gets information about their victims before they execute their evil plans.
