* The member representing Anambra West Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Patrick Obalum-Udoba, has commended the clean, green and sustainable initiative of the current administration in the state. Obalum-Udoba made the commendation while speaking to the ABS in Awka. The lawmaker, who rated Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration high in various sectors of the state economy, said that the initiative would help to make Anambra cleaner and environmentally friendly.
* Street Aid Africa Foundation (SAAF) has Partnered Urum Development Union in Awka North Local government area of Anambra state to distribute clothings and wears to over 80 persons in the community. SAAF, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) distributed cloths, shoes, hand bags, beads, bangles, children wears among other items. ANN reports that SAAF focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goal which is to provide education and empowerment for children. Other programmes of the NGO initiative include: feed the street, impact school outreach, voiceless conference for amplifying socially and sexually sensitive issues and pad drive for female adolescents.
* The Federal Government has been urged to build more dams across the country to reduce the devastation of annual flooding in Nigeria.
The Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said the country has lost huge human and material resources over the years to deluge and should not continue to rely on relocating people in riverine areas whenever there is a threat of flooding. He explained that unless proactive measures are taken, the country will find it difficult to achieve food sufficiency as greater percentage of what is cultivated every year is often washed away by flood, thereby further impoverishing the farmers and pushing the country to the brink of food crisis.
* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Echeng Echeng, felicitates with the Muslim Community worldwide, especially in Anambra State on the celebration of Eid el-Fitr. He congratulates the Muslims on the successful completion of the fasting and prayers and entreats them to also use this period of the festivity to pray for the peace and security of the state and nation at large.
* Governor of Anambra State Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has been appealed to disband the State Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET) if he wants proper collection of revenue. ANJET was created by Governor Soludo in 2022 as an enforcement outfit charged with the responsibilities of supervising, monitoring and enforcing compliance to the payment of taxes in Anambra state. ANN reports that Anambra State Keke Drivers Forum (AKDF), a conglomerate of tricycle operators alleged that ANJET are populated by touts and agberos and are currently diverting state revenues.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly, after deliberations, has granted the request of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in recovery and refund of stamp duties of state government from January 2015 – December 2022, and deduction of five percent at source consultancy fee for the recovery of backlog of stamp duties owed to Anambra State government. ANN reports that the lawmakers at plenary also authorized and support the netting off of Anambra State government’s domestic debt liabilities of the federal government from the outstanding sixty percent refunds duo to the states from the reconciliation of unauthorized debt/withdrawals in the Excess Crude Account (ECA), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPA) and Royalties account of the federation.
* The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike, has described the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Anambra’s first elected governor, as a very generous and kind-hearted man whose lifetime was characterised by gentility and humility.
Agbodike, who stated this at the state assembly complex, Awka while speaking with journalists, said Mbadinuju equally helped to nurture the nation’s nascent democracy having ruled Anambra state from 1999 to 2003 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and handed over peacefully.
