* Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has given the commitment of the State Government to partner with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the organized private sector to achieve his administration’s industrialization agenda. Soludo gave the assurance at the MAN Business/Stakeholders Town Hall Meeting in Onitsha recently, ANN reports. The Governor who described the community of manufacturers as true partners of progress, recalled his meeting with the landlords’ association and revealed that they had talked about Onitsha and its environs, and the need to revive its fortune as a commercial city of repute.
* As the Federation Cup battle heats up across the country, the Awka City stadium will play host to four federation cup games. ANN reports that six male teams will on Wednesday, 26th April, battle it out for places in the round of 32 of the Federation Cup while two female teams will also face each other for a place in the next round as well.
* There is currently mixed reactions about the collapse of a drainage channel being built by Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo. The drainage channel, which is located at Niger Street in Onitsha, reportedly collapsed on Thursday evening, when it was subjected to heavy rainfall. A video of the collapsed drainage, which has been circulating on social media, showed the channel, with a citizen of the state, who ran commentary on the video, describing the work as substandard.
* Speaker, Anambra House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor on behalf of the lawmakers wished the Muslim faithfuls a happy Eid el fitr celebration. ANN reports that the federal government had announced that Friday and Monday are public holidays in honor of the celebration.
* The federal government says it has successfully concessioned the Onitsha port in Anambra, while plans are underway for the concessioning of other ports across the country. George Moghalu, managing director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), disclosed this to journalists after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa. Moghalu said with such licensing, there would be less pressure on the government, noting that it would also attract more revenue.
* Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo has felicitated with Muslim faithful in Anambra State and across the country on the celebration of Eid-el-Fitri which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Congratulating the Muslim faithful on the completion of the 30-day fast, Governor Soludo stressed that the spiritual exercise had drawn them closer to Allah. He urged Muslims and other Nigerians to live in peace, love and harmony with one another as brothers and sisters.
* Miss Atuonah Chioma, a 2019 graduate of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka; who claimed to be a Model and Proprietress of a Massage Spa known as The-Chi-Place,has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a 50-year-old German national of $220,000, after promising to marry him. The suspect lured the 50-year old victim on Instagram by feigning romantic intentions towards him, thereby gaining the victims’ trust and goodwill.” She promised to marry the victim, invited him to Nigeria for visits on several occasions and convinced him to relocate permanently to Nigeria to live together as husband and wife.
* Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has reiterated his determination to implement the present administration’s housing master plan in the state. The governor dropped the hint during an inspection tour to Awka Millennium City and Golf Residency Awka; two estates that fit into the Governor’s master plan for contemporary housing, appropriate for the twenty-first century. ANN gathered that M-P Infrastructure, the developers of Awka Millennium City is a partnership being executed with Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, while Sagez Nigeria Limited is the Contractor handling the project.
* The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led by the National Chairman, Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye has scheduled the following dates for her Congresses and National Convention: Ward Congresses – Wednesday, 17th May, 2023. Local Government Congresses – Saturday, 20th May, 2023. State and Zonal Congresses – Tuesday, 23rd May, 2023. National Convention – Wednesday, 31st May, 2023. The National Convention is scheduled to hold in Awka, Anambra State on the said date.
* Anambra FA Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi has charged the four teams that will fly the flag of the state at the national level to be good ambassadors of the state while on national assignment. The chairman informed the 4 teams to go all the way in the competition in order to make the state proud.
