* Judiciary workers in Anambra State have undergone training on retirement planning, record keeping and other skills relevant for the smooth discharge of duties at their work place. The one-day workshop was held at the High Court Complex, Onitsha, for judiciary workers in Onitsha, Otuocha, Idemili and Ogbaru Judicial Divisions. Delivering a paper entitled: “Preparing for Retirement from Public Service,” Augustine Ezeanata, a retired Director of Planning in the state judiciary advised workers to take the issue of planning for retirement seriously to prevent them from dying miserably after long years of active service.
* Member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra state, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to make deliberate efforts to end the communal conflict in Ogwuaniocha community which led to the abduction of the traditional ruler, who is yet to be accounted for since 2021. He appealed to the Anambra state government to set up a panel of inquiry to address the conflict and bring an end to the years of lawlessness, fear, reprisal killings and criminality in the community, adding that since 2021, there had been not been socioeconomic progress in the community as a result of the intractable crisis.
* Archbishop Valerian Okeke welcomes and hosted students from Christ the King’s College (CKC), Onitsha, who represented Nigeria at World Affairs Challenge 2024 Global Championship and emerged victorious as the champions with the first position. Okeke while speaking said “this is one of its kind. I thank the manager, Fr. Celestine Okafor, the coach who led them, Mr. John Onuigbo, and the students, Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason for making this great feat a reality. They all made us proud and we pray for greater and more wins in the future.
* The Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (COCES), Nnamdi Azikiwe University has conferred awards of recognition on prominent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their field of endeavour as successful entrepreneurs and job creators on the occasion of the maiden EXPO and Exhibition held at the COCES complex. The recognitions in form of awards were bestowed upon personalities such as Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu; Traditional Ruler of Ogidi Kingdom, HRM Igwe Pharm. Alex Onyido; Founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Stella Okoli; The State Manager of Bank of Industry Ltd, Andrew Ogbomi and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) UNIZIK, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu for their outstanding contributions to humanity.
* An Onitsha-based lawyer, Mr Ndubuisi Okwuchukwu, has dragged a popular businessman, Chief Nwabueze Friday Umeh, to court over an alleged assault on him. The lawyer claimed Umeh, in conjunction with his security guards, carried out the assault on him. He also claimed the businessman threatened to deal with him if he, the lawyer, insists on getting his professional fee from the bizman. The lawyer claimed his ordeal with the businessman started when he accompanied the bailiffs of Onitsha High Court as a pointer to the office of the businessman to serve him a copy of a court judgment he secured against him concerning the businessman’s refusal to pay him his professional fee on a case he handled for him.
* Enu-Avomimi quarter of Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka council area of the state has sent a save a soul message to government over the threat of gully erosion in the area. The villagers are crying out after a recent downpour in the village that claimed properties worth millions of naira while over 31 building in the area are at the verge of caving-in into the erosion. Findings reveals that the depth of the gully erosion was learnt to measure about 60 meters deep and 60 meters wide.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will begin nationwide re-registration soon. Soludo who is the National Leader of the party made the announcement at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia during a meeting of the executives of the 326 wards of APGA in the state. According to Soludo, the party will begin fresh registration of members of the party who will receive a digital card that has a semblance of the voter cards, stressing that finishing touches are being put in place to achieve the party’s ICT emancipation to become the first party to go full digital.
* Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the application by a former Anambra State Governor, Willie Maduabuchi Obiano, which sought to quash the N40 billion money laundering charges brought against him by the Federal Government. The Judge, in a ruling faulted and rejected all grounds upon which the application was predicated by Obiano. The former governor had, among others, prayed the Judge to dismiss the 9-count charges instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on behalf of the Federal Government.
* An Anambra-born comedian, popularly known as Comedian Onyenze, has denied denied sponsoring or having hands in anything about cultism and cult-related activities in Awka the state capital, or any part of the state. The upcoming comedian, announced this, in reaction to the allegations by a Facebook user, Dietrich Klaus and other faceless individuals, who recently accused him of sponsoring secret cult related activities in the capital city. Speaking in an interview with the media, the Awka-born comedian wondered how someone can ever link him up to cultism, insisting that he has no dealings with nor has any connection with any secret cult.
* The first daughter of the late Governor Chukwemeka Ezeife, Okwadike, Dr Mrs Ogelue C. Ezeife Ugorji, has revealed that her beloved father, known for his firm stand on justice and equity, strongly supported the presidential candidate of the Labour Party because he looked forward to a better and more united nation where every Nigerian would be treated justly and given a fair chance to succeed. He strongly believed that Peter Obi would have made it happen.
Dr Ezeife-Ugorji made the revelation while paying a glowing tribute to her late father in Awka.
