* Traders of Bridgehead Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, unanimously turned down proposal by the Anàmbra State Government for the traders to resume market on Mondays. The Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Evaristus Uba, had tried to convince the traders , while addressing them during the One Day Crusade organized by the Central Committe of the Market Evangelism to resume trading on Mondays since there have been concerted efforts to release the Leader of Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This was greeted with shouting of no! no!! no!!! and loud murmuring by the traders.
* One thousand seven hundred and two (1,702) corps members, comprising 770 males and 932 females were deployed to Anambra state. National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma disclosed this during the opening ceremony of 2024 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course for Corps Members at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA.
Describing the corps members as special, Mrs Iruma expressed joy that they were quickly adjusting to the camp environment as well as participating in camp activities, adding that their level of discipline so far was impressively high and encouraged them to maintain the positive disposition.
* Anambra State government has appealed to residents and traders in the state to support the government’s development programmes by desisting from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drainage systems. The Managing Director, Operations Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere while speaking said emphasized on the need to allow easy flow of water and avoid incidence of flooding during the rainy season. Anere also urged the residents to assist the government in cleaning up clogged drainages in their respective areas and shops, stressing that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is poised to provide more massive infrastructure and address other basic needs of the people as well as protect life and property.
* A bill for a law to prohibit secret cultism and similar activites and to provide for related matters has been read for the third time and passed into law by the Anambra State House of Assembly. The executive bill underwent thorough consideration in the Committee of the whole on Tuesday before scaling through. The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme while speaking said the law will go a long way in saving lives of Ndi Anambra and empower authorities to take decisive actions against perpetrators.
* The Anambra State Government has debunked a recent, trending story of abduction and rape that allegedly occurred in Ukwulu, a town in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
According to Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, their was no such case. In recent times, the state government has observed that certain individuals, motivated by political agendas, have persisted in spreading false and baseless stories in an attempt to undermine the peace and security enjoyed by Ndi Anambra and residents of our state. The trending story, which surfaced on various online platforms demanding the attention of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, was found to be another concocted narrative, void of credibility and substance and mischievously circulated to paint a scenario of insecurity within our peaceful state.
* A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Goverment Area of Anambra State, Architect Chukwuka Okonkwo has defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Architect Okonkwo made this known in his Aguluezechukwu home amidst cheers from APGA members and other stakeholders in the area. Arch Okonkwo said that he joined the party because of the numerous developmental strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo that has changed the socioeconomic landscape of the state.
* An aide to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Research, Mr Osondu Madu says Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done extremely well infrastructurally. Mr Madu stated this while speaking to newsmen at his home town Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Goverment Area. Assessing Governor Soludo’s administration in the areas of Infrastructural development and education, Mr Madu, a former banker, noted that the current Governor Soludo has exceeded the expectations of every good onye Anambra with his developmental strides and an all-inclusive governance.
* The Second phase of Anambra state government’s “One Youth, Two Skills” programme is to commence soon.
Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba disclosed this while declaring open the 2024 Batch A Stream two Orientation Course for Corps Members deployed to Anambra state at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA.
Commissioner Agha Mba represented by the President Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Youth wing, Mr Ken Okoli, noted that as a youth centered administration, skills acquisition is the fulcrum of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government policy, adding that under the “One Youth Two Skills” programme, the present administration, trains, mentors and funds youths across the 21 local government areas of the state.
* Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah CON has defined his idea of result-oriented party politics as a process of uplifting humanity through effective coordination of government institutions and available resources which must be strictly applied to meet desired goals. The Senator made this known while addressing parishioners and guests during the Bishop’s Pastoral visit and Administering the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Lawrence Chapel Mass Centre, Awka. Ubah who was Chairman of the occasion hinted on the need for political leaders to boost citizen’s confidence by initiating, implementing and sustaining policies that impact lives and drive economic development in line with constitutional provisions.
