# The traditional ruler of Umueri Community in Anambra-East LGA, Igwe Ben Izuchukwu Emeka, has been nominated as the only Grand Patron of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Anambra State chapter.

Announcing the nomination, the Anambra State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Sir Humphrey Nwafor, said all the nominations from people went for Igwe Emeka, making him to emerge unanimously as NLC Anambra Grand Patron.

Nwafor said that as a Grand patron of the state chapter of NLC, Igwe Emeka’s duties are in mediation, intervention and solidarity for the union at all times while the union would always stand by him as it is likened to a conjugal relationship.

Comrade Nwafor hinted that the antecedents of the Oke Ebo 11 of Umueri as a philanthropist extraordinaré and employer of labour via his companies as the Executive Chairman, New Idea Construction Company Limited and Hilton Leisure Resorts and Hotels stood him out.

# A youth-based political group, ‘Anambra North Youths for Obiogbolu’, has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the senatorial aspiration of Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, declaring its readiness to mobilize grassroots backing ahead of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primaries.

The group disclosed that it has already begun intensive engagement across communities in Anambra North, rallying APGA youths to unite behind Obiogbolu’s aspirations.

According to them, the move is aimed at consolidating support at the ward and local government levels to ensure a strong showing during the primaries.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader, Comrade Nonso Obiekwe, stated that members are committed to working tirelessly to secure not only the party’s nomination for Obiogbolu but also victory in the main senatorial election.

# The arraignment of a Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afulu Anya,” was on Friday stalled at the Anambra State High Court, Awka, following his reported ill health.

Presiding Judge, Justice Jude Obiora, adjourned the matter to June 3, after the court held that the defendant was not medically fit to take his plea.

The defendant was brought to court amid a disagreement between the prosecution and defence teams over his health status.

Ezenagu was arrested on March 12,  in Nnewi by operatives of Agunechemba led by the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, and is being prosecuted under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law.

# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ( NSCDC) Anambra State Command, in conjunction with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria,( FMBN)  has organized a sensitization session to educate personnel on the provisions and benefits of the National Housing Fund Scheme.

Speaking at the interactive session which formed part of the ongoing NHF biometric capturing exercise for officers and men of the Corps, at the State Command Headquarters in Awka, Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant, emphasized the importance of the exercise in ending frustrations associated with accessing mortgage facilities.

He said the sensitization programme was designed to empower personnel with vital information on affordable home ownership opportunities.

In his address, Anambra State Branch Manager of FMBN, Mr. Chigozie Okonkwo, noted that every employee is expected to make a mandatory contribution of 2.5 percent of their monthly earnings to the fund, which is managed by the Federal Mortgage Bank.

# Aspirant for Onitsha North two Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Ikenna Unachukwu, has identified youth empowerment and economic growth as key priorities in his proposed legislative agenda.

Speaking in an interview, Unachukwu said his focus is on creating sustainable opportunities for young people through structured policies that address unemployment and promote self-reliance.

According to him, the proposed bill will prioritise entrepreneurship by providing access to funding, mentorship, and market linkages for young people seeking to start and grow businesses.

Unachukwu also emphasized the importance of skills acquisition, noting that modern economic realities require practical and technical competencies.

# ‎The 9th edition of the Omagba Archdeaconry Women’s Conference was convened at St. Mark’s Church, Omagba, assembling participants from across the archdeaconry for a spiritually edifying and impactful assembly.

‎The conference was formally declared open with a cordial welcome by the Vicar of St. Mark’s Church and Archdeacon of Omagba Archdeaconry, Ven. Elochukwu Ojukwu, who expressed profound satisfaction with the attendance and invoked divine guidance upon the women and the Church at large.

‎In his homily, Rev. Emmanuel Oluwatosin Omonogu expounded on the theme “God’s Quest for Saviours,” drawing from Mark 9:49–50.

He underscored the necessity of personal transformation, stating, “One cannot be the salt of the earth without first being salt unto oneself.” He exhorted the women to lead exemplary lives that manifest Christ in both conduct and service.

# The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Maku Olatunde, has vowed to tackle recurring cases of theft, sabotage and vandalism targeting tower sites, fibre optic cables, and other telecom infrastructure in Anambra State.

Commandant Maku gave the assurance while hosting Olusina Sonekan, Associate Director of Security, IHS Towers Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Holding Limited and his team at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.

He stated that the Corps and IHS Nigeria will jointly devise strong strategies to protect telecom assets, which Nigerian law classifies as Critical National Infrastructure.

The NSCDC State Commandant described IHS Nigeria as a strategic partner whose infrastructure underpins the operations of numerous organizations nationwide, making enhanced operational support from the NSCDC essential.

# A legal practitioner in Awka, John Okoli- Akrika says the deferment of ruling on the ADC by the supreme court is having a multiplier effect on not just the judiciary but also on the political development of the Country.

The Lawyer was reacting to the reserved ruling by the apex court on Wednesday over the leadership issues rocking the party.

According to him, apart from the impact on the judiciary, the federal high court  will also have to await the outcome of the supreme court ruling which as it stands has no definite time frame.

Mr Okoli-Akrika noted that a combination of all the factors no doubt  imposes a duty on the apex court to timeously deliver it’s ruling on the matter considering the surrounding and peculiar circumstances.

# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for appointing Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Kukah as the Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Igbariam, Anambra State.

Felicitating Bishop Kukah on his appointment, through a press statement signed by Mr. Emma Madu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Udeze described
the appointment as meritorious, noting that Soludo’s unwavering efforts in taking education to the next level in the State has  occasioned the choice of the learned Bishop Kukah as the Chancellor of the Ojukwu University.

The Speaker who is an Alumnus of the University, expressed confidence in the intellectual ability and contributions of Bishop Kukah in diverse spheres of human endeavour as well as his revered moral belief, assuring that the Catholic Prelate will foster genuine academic and moral excellence in the University.

He urged the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Community to leverage on this first class appointment of Bishop Kukah to grow and develop the University in all ramifications and also create an enabling environment for the Chancellor to showcase his intellectual prowess.

# Awka youths, operating under the platform of Ikolo Neche Obodo, have formally endorsed Obi Nwankwo for the Awka North and South Federal Constituency seat, describing him as a candidate whose record of service and grassroots engagement sets him apart in the emerging political landscape.

The endorsement ceremony witnessed the presentation of a recognition award to Hon. Nwankwo, with the group stating that the honour reflects years of visible commitment to community development, youth-focused initiatives, and sustained support for projects that have strengthened local infrastructure and human capital growth within Awka communities.

Leaders of the youth body explained that their decision followed careful observation of his performance in previous public service roles and his continued presence among constituents. They stressed that the endorsement represents a strategic choice anchored on experience, accessibility, and measurable contributions, noting that such qualities position him strongly ahead in the race for credible legislative representation.

Responding to the endorsement, Obi Nwankwo expressed gratitude to the youths for their confidence, stating that their support reinforces his resolve to pursue people-focused legislation. He reiterated his commitment to expanding youth empowerment opportunities, strengthening local infrastructure, and advancing policies that will stimulate sustainable economic growth across Awka North and South.
