* The MD/CEO of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Simeon Onyemaechi says the standard medical treatment guideline will help guide the quality of care rendered by different specialists attending to beneficiaries of the scheme. Onyemaechi while speaking during the quarterly meeting held recently with the Medical Directors and Hospital Administrators of the accredited health providers of ASHIA, reiterated the benefits of the hospitals submitting their encounter forms and said that at the discretion of the agency, defaulters will suffer serious consequences for failure to comply before the deadline given.

* Some members of Ihite Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, led by the community’s traditional council have rejected the process that led to the selection of

Mr Timothy Ifurunwa as king. Ifurunwa was elected last week by a section of the community, under the prompting of the President General, Mr George Madu. The community’s traditional council has petitioned Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, urging him to intervene to avert crisis in the community and to also disregard the process that led to the selection of Ifurunwa.

* Ndi Enugwu-Agidi a community in Njikoka Local Government Area are rejoicing as Anambra State Government restored pipe-borne water. President General (PG) of Enugwu-Agidi Amb. Chukwuemeka Onuorah confirmed the restoration of the essential service and expressed gratitude on behalf of the community for the authorities’ efforts to bring back this vital resource after a prolonged absence. Onuorah stated this during a technical handover of solar powered water borehole project at Oganiru Primary School, Enugwu -Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

* Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA) has commence massive desilting of drainages across the metropolis with heavy duty trucks to accommodate stormwater. The Managing Director of ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko while speaking to journalists in Awka during the exercise, said the agency was launching a one week intensive desilting of drainages along Ziks  Avenue in continuation of its operation clean and green campaign. According to the ACTDA boss, the agency carried out the cleaning of  7.5km drainages  to ensure that different areas across the city  were free of debris covering the flood channels. 

* The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone has emphasized the essence of robust publicity for the University’s products showcased and exhibited during the occasion of the 2024 UNIZIK COCES EXPO held recently. Prof. Esimone made the remarks during the tour of the various exhibition stands and interaction with the exhibitors on the occasion of the 2024 UNIZIK COCES EXPO. Prof. Esimone who spent over an hour during the tour expressed deep satisfaction with the exhibition and the turnout. Esimone who was thrilled with some exhibits coming from the University, averred that they are of good quality to compete favourably with foreign ones. The institution’s Chief Executive while on the tour advocated for more publicity using online platforms to provide the needed visibility for the products to attract wider patronage.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde in a renewed effort to enhance security across Anambra State has sued for greater synergy and collaboration with the Nigerian Army. The NSCDC Commandant, thanked the Nigerian Army for their continuous support to the NSCDC and promised to work with the Military to  tackle insecurity across the state.

* Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo  for the construction of Mmiata-Nzam road in fulfillment of his campaign promise to the constituency. Sponsor of the motion Hon. Patrick Udoba in his submission said Anambra West Local Government Headquarters situated at Nzam is the only LGA in the entire federation without an access road and the Mmiata-Nzam road is very strategic and of great economic importance. Hon. Udoba who is the member representing Anambra West stated that Mr. Governor during his campaign, promised to construct and complete Mmiata-Nzam not only as an access road to the Local Government Headquarters but to also ease the movement of farm produce from the area.

* The traditional ruler of Ojoto community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu, says those plotting to dethrone him are the ones who attempted to scuttle Ojoto Town Union election. Mbamalu, who responded to allegations of imposition of preferred candidates by some elements in the community identified as Concerned Citizens of Ojoto, who had embarked on a charade called protest to the Government House to fabricate lies against him, maintained that he has no hand whatsoever in the conduct and outcome of the election.

* In line with Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda to promote the Igbo culture and revive its core values, the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism (MCET), has hosted a roundtable discussion with various stakeholders of the Citizenship Rights Directorate, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth wing, Film Village, Traditional Institute, others to talk about the revival of the Igbo culture and its core values. The discussion, which was held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Jerome Udoji’s Secretariat, Awka focused on the need to preserve the Igbo language, revival of what the Igbo are known for which centered on respect for elders, hard work, brotherliness, investing in the state, honesty and the kindred system and to identify harmful practices that are not part of the Igbo culture. Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner, Mr. Don Onyenji observed that the Igbo’s core value system is gradually eroding and there is a strong need to revive it for the present generation to know the Igbo core values and pass it on to the next generation.
