# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on behalf of the Government and the good people of the State, extends his warmest felicitations to the Traditional Ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II of Awka, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

In a tribute marking this milestone, Governor Soludo described Obi Gibson Nwosu as a quintessential monarch, a symbol of peace, and a custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the Awka people.

The governor noted that reaching the nonagenarian milestone is a profound blessing from God and a testament to a life lived with purpose, discipline, and dedication to the service of humanity.

The governor further acknowledged the Eze Uzu’s distinguished career prior to his ascension to the throne, particularly his service as a pioneer aviator, which brought immense pride to the nation. He prayed for the Almighty to continue to grant the monarch good health, renewed strength, and continued wisdom to lead his people.

# In a significant boost to the state’s security and developmental infrastructure,
Chief Cletus Oragwa of Zenco Group has donation 10 vehicles to Anambra state government.

Making the presentation on behalf of Chief Oragwa, Barr. Ikenna Mbazulike-Amechi revealed that the donation is to support the Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his security initiatives.

Accepted the donation at the Light House in Awka, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, while speaking, highlighted the dramatic shift in the security landscape of Ukpor; once a flashpoint for instability.

Soludo declared that through strategic intervention and local cooperation, Ukpor has been transformed, remarking that Ukpor is now one of the safest areas in the state.

The Governor commended the community spirit displayed by the people of Ukpor, pointing out that it is the kind of partnership with communities that will endure and redefine our state.

# The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Unit in Anambra has secured a major conviction in a case between the State and Onyedika Okafor,

The defendant was sentenced to 16 years for rape and unlawful imprisonment.

The court heard that the convict, aged 30 at the time of arrest, armed himself with a gun and stormed the residence of the victim at Ezi Ifite village, Awka, where she lived with her aunt. He reportedly demanded that the victim come out, and despite attempts by neighbours to intervene, they were unable to do so as the assailant brandished the firearm.

During interrogation, the defendant claimed that the victim was his girlfriend and insisted he had committed no offence.

In her judgment, Honourable Justice Peace Otti found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment for rape and an additional two years for unlawful imprisonment.

# It was a day of celebration as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Abayomi Peter Oladipo bows out of office.

Prior to his promotion as a Deputy Inspector General of Police on 22 April 2026, he was the Assistant inspector General of police in charge of zone 13 Ukpo Dunukofia LGA Anambra state.

A triple celebration party which includes his birthday, retirement and promotion celebration was held at the zone 13 police headquarters Ukpo.

During his farewell speech, the DIG who was formerly AIG zone 13 appreciated the kind gesture exhibited by the public all the through his stay in the zone 13 Headquarters Ukpo which covers both Anambra and Enugu States.

Another notable events which took place was the commissioning of the Zonal Computer intelligence Unit (ZCIU) which serves an intelligence Lab equipped with modern facilities in order to tackle modern cybercrimes and other vices thereby giving the zone a good cybersecurity. The cyber unit was built and commissioned by DIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo.

# The crisis rocking the ancient throne of Awka took a dramatic new turn as Chief Austin Ndigwe, insisted he remains the authentic traditional ruler of the Awka Kingdom—with or without an Anambra State government certificate of recognition.

Addressing a gathering of royal and traditional chiefs, Ndigwe dismissed Governor Soludo’s recent White Paper affirming Obi Gibson Nwosu as the sole legitimate Eze Awka.

He insists that he was elected by the Awka people and that no certificate from the state government can undo that.

Ndigwe said: “I remain the Eze Uzu III of Awka Kingdom, with or without Anambra State certificate. The throne is not a governor’s gift.”

# The Association of Science Laboratory Technology of Nigeria (ASLTON), Anambra State chapter held the world laboratory day at the University on the Niger, Iyienu Campus, under the theme, “Good Laboratory Practice: A panacea for Global Sustainable Development and innovation”.

Mr Emma Ezeokafor, a medical Laboratory scientist, delivering his message, emphasized the critical role of laboratory science in healthcare delivery. He stated that accurate diagnosis forms the foundation of effective treatment and policy decisions.

Ezeokafor maintained that behind every drug, every safe meal, and every accurate fever test, there is a laboratory scientist and today according to him, reminds the people that good science starts with good data, and good data starts in the lab.

The Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist at the hospital, Mrs Catherine Obijiofor, speaking with the students stressed that a country is only as healthy as its laboratories.

# Executives of the Customary Court in Anambra have appealed to the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), to intervene in issues affecting their welfare.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the Attorney General in his chambers at the Ministry of Justice, Awka.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Customary Court Association, Anambra Chapter, His Honour Joy Mbachu, used the opportunity to draw attention to the welfare concerns of the association, urging the Attorney General to lend his voice and support towards addressing them.

Mbachu said the delegation was in the Ministry to familiarise with the Attorney General and to formally congratulate him on his appointment. She expressed confidence in Nweke’s capacity to advance the justice sector in the state.

Responding, Nweke appreciated the visit, assuring them of his commitment to the welfare of stakeholders within the justice system. He pledged to look into their concerns and encouraged the executives to maintain open communication with his office, assuring them of his readiness to attend to issues whenever the need arises.

# Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige and former Education commissioner, Prof Leonard Muoghalu were honored by management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra state for their outstanding support and contributions to the institution.

Others honored during the Founder’s day – 4th Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial lecture as part of activities marking the 16th Convocation ceremony of the institution were Co-founder, Seplat Energy Plc, Dr Ambrose Orjiakor, former lawmaker representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, Engr Fort Dike, former Executive Secretary, National University Commission (NUC), Prof Julius Okojie and Bar Donatus Okeke.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor, Prof Kate Omenugha said the event celebrated the institution’s heritage and achievements, noting that the university had 15 faculties, 70 academic departments, about 1,500 staff and over 55,000 alumni.

According to Omenugha, the institution has also intensified campaigns for a clean, green and sustainable environment, as well as introduction of strict sanctions, including one-year suspension for students caught littering.

# The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Maku Olatunde, has warned officers and men to boost operational readiness and show total commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The Commandant issued the directive while addressing them at an identification parade held at the State Command Headquarters in Awka.

Speaking to the officers, Commandant Maku said the Command carries huge responsibilities and must continually prove its value through results. He tasked operatives to stay vigilant, maintain high operational efficiency, observe Standard Operating Procedures, Rules of Engagement, and abide by the Service Order in the course of discharging their duties.

In strong terms, the Commandant warned that any lapses in duty will no longer be overlooked. Hence, any officer found negligent or ineffective will be removed immediately and may face disciplinary action.

# Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Iyom Bianca Ojukwu is confident that Substantive first female Vice Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu university Prof. Kate Omenugha will launch the Ivory Tower to more enviable heights in her career.

The Minister made the assertion at the 16th Convocation lecture of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu university delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Nigeria Michal Cygan at Igbariam.

Describing Prof.Omenugha as a hard working resourceful Chief Marketer of the university, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain encouraged her to continue in her perseverance in building innovative minds and bridges for shared prosperity.

Under her watch, the Minister confirmed that the university is on the right track.
