# Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, holds Digital Literacy & Technology Innovation Program was officially launched, marking another important step in deepening Anambra’s distributed innovation ecosystem.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, set the tone with a strong call for responsible digital engagement, challenging students to use technology and social platforms as tools for value creation, while reinforcing a safe and supportive academic environment.

Representing the Anambra State Government, Ms. Chinwe Okoli, Special Adviser on Innovation & Business Incubation and CEO of Solution Innovation District (SID), positioned the initiative within the State’s broader vision of building a technology-driven economy. She emphasized the need for students to actively acquire globally relevant skills and plug into emerging digital opportunities.

 

# The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements with a successful raid of a notorious black spot in Eze-Allah, Enugwu-Ukwu, of Njikoka LGA

Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Unit, Enugwu-Ukwu, acting on credible information, carried out the operation recently.

Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement noted that during the raid, eight suspects linked to cult-related activities were arrested, and various quantities of suspected Cannabis Sativa and other dangerous drugs were recovered.

The suspects, all males, include: Chidalu Nwafor (27 years), Chiemerie Nwazueje (24 years), Chima Arwuike (25 years), Jideobi Emeka (26 years), Oliver Okonkwo (18 years), Izuchukwu Christian (18 years), Onyebuchi (21 years), and Walter Idouzour (44 years).

The Command notes that the prevalence of illicit drugs remains a major enabler of crime and criminality, particularly among youth groups involved in cult-related activities.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced a full scholarship package for thirty-seven First Class graduates of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) to pursue their Master’s and Doctorate degrees in any Nigerian university.

Prof. Soludo disclosed this during the sixteenth Convocation Ceremony of the institution held at the Igbariam Campus on Saturday.

In his address, Soludo emphasized that the sponsorship is part of his administration’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and strengthening the state’s education sector.

Prof. Soludo while congratulating the graduands, challenged them to be catalysts for national change.

The Governor charged the youth to move beyond lamentation and take active roles in restoring the country’s economic stability.

# Labour Party in Anambra State during its congress held in Awka, elected Honourable Peter Okoye as the Chairman

Other officers of the party elected alongside Honourable Okoye were Chigboo Ogudebe (Vice Chairman), Godwin Ibekwe (Secretary), Nkemakonam Okoli (Publicity Secretary), Barrister Emma Uduaka (Legal Adviser), Ifeyinwa Ezenwa (Woman Leader) and Jerry Nnubia (Treasurer) among others.

The Anambra State Labour Party congress was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission and attended by delegates from the twenty-one local government areas of the state, and supervised by the Labour Party Congress Committee.

Speaking in an interview, newly elected Chairman, Okoye, commended members of the party for finding him worthy to pilot the affairs, assuring that he would run an all-inclusive administration and ensure the victory of the party during the 2027 general elections

# Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili south Local Government Area.

The team successfully arrested three armed suspects, rescued a
kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.

The three suspects arrested at the scene, all males include: Chidalu Obi 25 years, Chichebem Ojenigbo 26 years and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20 years respectively.

preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job.

# The Mayor of Awka South LGA, 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱𝘂 𝗢𝗸𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿 has paid homage to the Monarch of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, 𝗢𝗯𝗶 𝗚𝗶𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝘄𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗲𝘇𝗲 𝗡𝘄𝗼𝘀𝘂 (𝗢𝗯𝗶 𝗘𝘇𝗲 𝗨𝘇𝘂 𝗔𝘄𝗸𝗮 𝗜𝗜) on his 90th birthday anniversary.

# ‎Anambra State House of Assembly hopeful, Hon. Felix Ikechi, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for the recent appointment of key professionals to head major healthcare institutions across the state.

‎In a statement, Ikechi described the appointments of Dr. Ezeaka Augustine Uwaeme, Dr. Obianuju Chinelo Okoye, and Dr. Hillary Nkem Okeke as a strategic step toward strengthening the healthcare delivery system in Anambra State, noting that the governor’s decision reflects a commitment to merit, competence, and the continued reform of the state’s health sector.

‎According to Ikechi, the choice of experienced and qualified individuals to oversee critical healthcare institutions will enhance service delivery, improve patient outcomes, and boost public confidence in the state’s medical infrastructure.

# The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has unveiled and distributed various tech-driven and other operational assets received from the NSCDC National Headquarters to officers and men in the state.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the Command Headquarters, Awka, Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant, said the operational tools were designed to strengthen operational intelligence and improve the performance of personnel on the frontline.

Addressing officers, Commandant Maku highlighted the role of the new tactical equipment in boosting the Command’s operational capacity. He said the tools were procured to promote efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and urged personnel to deploy them effectively to secure lives and property across the state.

The State Commandant thanked the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and the National Headquarters management team for their foresight in providing the modern operational devices, describing the gesture as clear proof of the Corps leadership’s commitment to enhancing personnel capability.

The NSCDC State helmsman described the equipment as timely amid shifting security challenges, adding that it will strengthen the Command’s intelligence, surveillance, and rapid-response capacity statewide.

# Staff of the Anambra State Ministry of Housing have paid glowing tributes to the outgoing Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Pauly Onyeka, at a farewell and get-together ceremony held at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat Complex in Awka.


The event, marked by a mix of emotions and nostalgia, brought together ministry staff who celebrated the achievements and leadership style of the former commissioner. Speakers at the colourful occasion expressed gratitude and praised Hon Onyeka for his cordial relationship with staff and his inclusive approach to administration during his tenure.

In his remarks, Onyeka urged staff to remain committed to hard work and unity, emphasizing the importance of putting God first in all endeavors. He cautioned against envy in the workplace, noting that leadership positions come with time and patience.

# Abatete and Oraukwu communities in Idemili North LGA have appealed Governor Chukwuma Soludo to save the area from the menace of erosion threatening the Oraukwu-Abatete-Ogidi-Nkpor Road, as parts of the drainage system at Ezigbo River axis and Oraukwu Grammar School have already caved in.

Speaking after inspecting some of the sites, including Oraukwu and Alor ends of the Ezigbo River bridges, the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, said they will embark on immediate interventions to halt further devastation that would endanger the road, including rebuilding broken drainages, desilting them, and refilling affected areas.

The Mayor appealed to Prof. Soludo to assist in dredging the Ezigbo River to protect the new bridges from being blocked and forcing water onto the road.

Also speaking, a former Anambra State President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emeka Udodeme, said government’s immediate intervention will save the road from being cut off, as it is a major access route that links many communities in the area to other parts of the state.
