* Anambra state government has called on the citizenry to always maintain a clean, healthy environment, avoid self-medication and equally ensure that they continue to sleep under the mosquito treated nets distributed by the state government. The state government gave the advice through the Commissioner for Health, Ben Afam Obidike as the world marked ‘World Malaria Day’.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Engineer Chris Obiorah has inspected the quality of work and progress made so far on the three-point-two-seven-five kilometers Okpuneze Junction to Nnewi Hotel and two-point-two kilometers Isaho to Teaching Hospital Permanent site road Nnewi. As an expert in the field, Engineer Obiorah took out engineering equipment and cross-checked both the slope of the drainage which is nearing completion as well as other aspects of the project. Obiorah, after the inspection, said that the aim of the exercise was to ensure that Governor Soludo’s plan of constructing durable roads with at least twenty years lifespan guarantee is actualized and that such an unscheduled visit will continue until the project is completed.
* Anambra State Coordinator, Joint Enforcement Team, ANJET, Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi retired, has refuted claims by some Keke drivers in the state, who alleged that some members of the team are cultists and touts that divert government revenue. Air Vice Marshal Chiobi, who spoke through ANJET’s Director of Operations, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalezeukwu, noted that members of ANJET are responsible people, who work within the ambit of the law and their code of conduct, and stated that they do their job diligently at all times, with records and results to show for it.
* An Environmental Scientist, Professor Leo Muoghalu has blamed erosion menace ravaging parts of Anambra State on lack of consideration for the environment in construction and urban planning. Professor Muoghalu disclosed this while delivering a lecture on flood menace in Anambra State, causes, prevention and remediation: A call for community participation” during World Earth Day celebration held in Awka recently.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Dr Anselm Onuorah says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s achievements within his one year in office is highly commendable. Dr. Onuorah who made this known while speaking to the ABS in Awka, said that what the Soludo administration has done for the past one year “is astonishing to every Onye Anambra and other residents of the state.”
* Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has urged the people to maintain regular health checks, eat balance food and exercise regularly to reduce the rate of cardiovascular diseases and deaths. Mrs. Soludo who was speaking in Awka, expressed worry over the rising death rates resulting from neglect of many dangerous heart-related disorders. According to the governor’s wife, a large number of current cardio-related deaths have occurred because the victims were neither aware of their heart health nor showed any serious medical concern about it including visiting a hospital often to undergo cardiovascular tests.
* Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime has reminded journalists in Anambra State of the need to deploy the five principles of journalism including truth and accuracy, independence, fairness and impartiality, humanity, and accountability.
Aburime gave the reminder during a friendly interaction with members of Correspondents’ Chapel of the State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. The Press Secretary emphasized that the principles were such that professionals can live by, saying that even though journalists are not expected to completely dance to the tune of government, especially when they not doing well, but that they should practice development journalism at all times.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointment of Chief Evarist Uba, as his Special Adviser on Trade and Markets. In a release signed by the governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Chris Aburime, he said that Chief Pat Ubajaka was also appointed by the governor as a Board member of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA.
* The Department of Theatre Arts, of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra State has conducted induction and anticipated initiation for 100 and 200 level students into the Department. The Department of Theatre Arts in the University community is known for offering academic programs and practical trainings in various aspects of culture and theatre.
* The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, (ANAN), has held its second session of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme and Induction of new members in Awka, Anambra State capital. The three-day programme commenced with a road walk with members led by the Anambra State branch Chairperson, Mrs Nkechi Ofoedu.
