* The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike says the State Drug Management Agency (DMA) when fully implemented would help the state to achieve Universal Health Coverage. Obidike stated this during a seminar on Drugs and Medical Consumables Management in Awka, which was organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Anambra State Chapter, in collaboration with UNIZIK Business School and the State Ministry of Health.
He reiterated the commitment of the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo led administration’s priority in the healthcare sector of the state, as according to him, the state DMA will be an organization that oversees and regulates the use of medications within a specific healthcare system, insurance plan, and government programmes.

* Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has launched it maiden Anambra Labour Unity Football championship competition as part of a week-long activities to mark this year workers’s day celebration slated for May 1, 2024. Addressing a press conference in Awka, the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, announced that all participating teams will enjoy fair treatment and promised that the organizers will not lower the standard from what is applicable to other international veterans football competition.

* The Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze has held its 35th and 13th joint matriculation ceremony for students of National Education Certificate, NCE, Degree and Professional Diploma in Education programmes of the college. The Provost of the College, Professor Okoli in an address congratulated all the new students on their successful admission to the institution which she said is built on the solid foundation of skills and self reliance.
Okoli informed them that the ceremony is an academic ritual that marks the end of the admission programme for this year and is a formal induction of all registered students into the college community and reminded the students that their admission was strictly on merit as the institution lays strong emphasis on excellence in character and learning.

* The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says it will partner Anti-Piracy Society Of Nigeria, APSON, to tackle consumer abuse by manufacturers and service providers. The Zonal Coordinator, South East Zone of FCCPC, Mr Jude Akonam, stated this in Awka while addressing members of APSON in the state. While he reiterated that the agency understands that consumers want value for money on products and services, he added that as regulators, there was need to partner differeny professional bodies to help consumers achieve it, saying that the objective of FCCPC aligns with that of APSON as their operations are seamless and that in itself is fundamental reason for engagement and commended the group for their efforts towards the welfare of the people.

* The Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr Nelson Omenugha has extended his warm congratulations to the three outstanding Anambra students from St. John Vianney Science College, Igbariam Anambra East Local Government Area, for winning the 2024 National Girls in ICT title. The trio of Immaculate Ebubedike Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi represented Anambra State at the 2024 National Girls in ICT championship organized by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation amd Digital Economy after emerging victorious at the state and regional levels. Dr Omenugha while reacting to the development emphasized that their victory underscores the impact of the huge investment and reform in the Anambra’s education system and ICT.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu, in company of Ihite community stakeholders has presented the Igwe-elect Chief Timothy Ifurunwa to Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tonycollins Nwabunwanne in his office.

Congratulating Ihite community for the peaceful exercise that led to the emergence of Chief Timothy Ifurunwa, Mr Nwabunwanne maintained that despite the shenanigans of few individuals, the Soludo administration is determined to entrench peace in Anambra communities by ensuring peaceful handover of power.

* Head of Department, Mass Communication Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Chioma Agbasimelo, has revealed that sixteen percent of students from the department do not go to newsroom after graduation. In order to correct the ugly impression, the Department hold its Career Development Summit for the mass comunication students. Agbasimelo who disclosed this in a press briefing, said Valentine Obienyem, Media Aide to Presidential Candidate for Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi would be the keynote speaker.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Mr Felix Ikechi says plans are underway to have an independent solar power plant located in the local government area. Ikechi made the revelation during a strategic interaction with Traditional Rulers and Presidents Generals in the council area which held at the Local Council Secretariat in Nzam. The Anambra West Mayor who said that the project would commence soonest, noted that once operational, the plant will provide a reliable and sustainable source of electricity to the people of Anambra West, helping to improve their daily lives and boost economic development in the region.

* In the midst of the controversy trailing the alleged kidnap, rape and extortion of some individuals by herdsmen in Anambra State, the herdsmen have yet launched another bloody and dangerous attack in the state. Although, the Anambra State Government, the Dunukofia Local Government Chairman, and the Traditional Ruler of Ukwulu have dismissed the reports as untrue and handiworks of propagandists and mischief makers; some members of the public still insist and argue that there are elements of truth in the stories, as were written by the victims themselves. While the previous attacks were said to have happened around the Ukwulu—Nawgu axis, the recent attack occured along the Achalagu Road, off Nando community in Anambra East LGA of the State.
