# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Professor Ifeanyi Ndirika, a renowned Agricultural Engineer and eminent scholar, as the new Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
Prof. Ndirika’s appointment was announced in a press statement signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor
Before his new appointment as provost, Ndirika was a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
As a top-grade engineer, lecturer, administrator, and researcher who has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and publications in reputable journals, Prof. Ndirika brings much experience to his new role.
Prof. Ndirika is expected to lead Nwafor Orizu College of Education to a whole new era of all-round excellence in producing world-class, modern teachers for Anambra State and beyond.
# After eight years of dedicated service, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, has officially handed over to Dr. Ezeaka Augustine Uwaeme, bringing his tenure to a close.
As the pioneer MD, Dr. Onyemaechi played a key role in building ASHIA from the beginning and helping people understand the importance of health insurance. When the agency started, many residents were not familiar with how it works. Today, that has changed. Under his leadership, over 330,000 residents have been enrolled, making healthcare more affordable and accessible to families across Anambra State.
One of his most notable achievements is the introduction of the Adoption Model. This initiative allows individuals, groups, and organisations to pay for health insurance on behalf of those who cannot afford it. Through this effort, many elderly people, women, children, and low-income earners now have access to medical care without the stress of high hospital bills.
# The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, has issued a pointed and unambiguous warning to staff members who may be tempted to exploit or abuse students under their care.
Prof. Omenugha delivered the warning while addressing staff and students at the Interdenominational Service held at the ETF Auditorium, Igbariam Campus, as part of activities marking Day Two of the university’s 16th Convocation Week.
Speaking with the measured firmness, the VC made it clear that no shield of seniority, familiarity, or personal closeness to the Vice-Chancellor’s office would protect an offender from consequences.
The Vice-Chancellor also turned directly to students, urging them not to be silent in the face of any form of abuse or injustice.
# An Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has sentenced Ifeanyi Anizoba Jr. to death by hanging for the killing of his father, Ifeanyi Anizoba.
Delivering judgment in Awka, the trial judge, Justice Chukwudi Okaa, held that the court found the defendant guilty of the offence, stating that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution, led by Chief State Counsel, Mrs. Chiamaka Chukwuka, told the court that the incident occurred on December 24, 2019, at Nodu Village in Awka, following a dispute between the defendant and his father.
According to the prosecution, the defendant pushed his father during an altercation, causing him to hit his head against a wall and lose consciousness.
# Isuofia Community in Aguata LGA, has lost its traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Igwe (Col.) C.A.O. Muoghalu, the Isu Nk’Ibua n’Isuofia, to the cold hands of death.
An announcement by the traditional Prime Minister of the community, Chief Ndubuisi Osele, conveyed the information to the indigenes.
The traditional Prime Minister in the announcement, said the affairs of the community would continue to run, just as indigenes of the community who had guidance in matters relating to the traditional stool should contact the Palace Secretary.
# Edel FC are champions of Anambra again. The Nigeria National League side sealed the 20th ANSFA/NEROS Pharmaceuticals FA Cup on Sunday with a commanding 2-0 victory over non-league Amanda FC at Neros Stadium, Nanka.
Sir. Victor Nwangwu, who representing sponsor Professor Polycarp Emenike, while congratulating the winners, presented Edel FC with the trophy and a two million naira prize.
Runners-up Amanda FC took home one million, while third-place Game Changers received five hundred thousand naira.
# Twenty newly elected youth leaders from various communities have been inaugurated into the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC Youth Wing).
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, said the platform is a veritable avenue for youths to acquire leadership knowledge and skills for their future roles in society,
Dr. Nwankwo reminded them of the indispensable responsibilities of youths in community development and sustaining the course of positive change, stressing that leadership comes with a lot of responsibilities.
The President of the council, Comrade Ken Okoli in his speech urged the youths to be alive to the responsibilities of serving the young people of various communities by upholding the Council’s articles of faith, focusing on affairs of youths, and respecting the traditional rulers and Town Union executives.
Comrade Okoli thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for giving youths the opportunity to participate in the governance structure of Anambra State, which he said enables youths to be well coordinated and build cohesion in their affairs.
# The lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Bernard Udemezue
has explained reasons for joining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Hon. Udemezue who was elected into the 8th Assembly through the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), joined the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in 2025 and now in APGA.
Giving reasons for his defections ahead of the 2027 general elections, Udemezue noted that, it was for the interest of his constituents.
# The Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, has warned that acts of rascality and thuggery must no longer be tolerated in the council area.
Nkwoka issued the warning while reacting to allegations made by a House of Representatives aspirant for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi, who accused him of attempting to assassinate him on Sunday.
Ibezi made the allegation in a statement titled “Attempted Assassination of Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi by Thugs Allegedly Linked to Idemili North Mayor, Chief Stanley Nkwoka — Two Police Officers Hospitalised.”
Responding, Nkwoka said: “We cannot continue to tolerate rascality and thuggery in Idemili North. We must end this culture and restore order. Everyone must obey the law and respect government rules.”
# The Civil Liberties Organization, Anambra State Branch, has commended the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr Tony Nwoye, for construction of Bida roads and some of the roads in the area.
The organization singled out the ongoing reconstruction of the strategic Bida Road, which leads to the popular Onitsha Main Market, describing it as “glaring and cheering news” for residents, commuters, and traders.
The press statement, themed “A Leader is engraved in the hearts of people through being fanatic to their welfare and interest,” was signed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman, and Comrade Chidi Mbah, Secretary.
CLO further appealed to Nwoye to share the “secret of his success and impactful servant leadership” with his colleagues at the National Assembly.
The group noted that if other members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly followed his example, the state will be turned into a construction site and the issue of bad roads will be eliminated.
