* The Head of Service (HOS) Anambra state, Barr. Theodora Igwegbe said Civil Servants must embrace the change from paper service to digital/Computer mode. Igwegbe while speaking at the inauguration of the distribution of first phase 200 computers tagged, ‘Digitization of Anambra Civil Service’ maintained that “by using data analysis and other digital tools, workers can identify strength, pattern and insights that can inform their decision making and help them to provide data services to improve on productivity.’’

* Professor Dennis Aribodor, a public health parasitologist of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, has advised Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to declare treatment of malaria free for children in all public health facilities in the state. Aribodor stated that the essence was to ensure that children whom he said were most susceptible to the infection were diagnosed and treated without any costs as most poor families have resorted to concoctions for treatment of the disease resulting to kidney failures, due to  high cost of malaria drugs. 

* The Anambra State office of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, has announced commencement of registration of all unemployed persons in the state. A statement signed by the Anambra State Coordinator of NDE, Chika Ufelle, indicates that the registration commenced on 17th April, 2023 and will end on Friday 5th May, 2023 at the NDE Anambra State office, plot two hundred and sixty-seven Christian Nwokoye Street, Maryland Estate Amawbia for those within Awka and environs.

* Ogbaru House of Representatives member-elect, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Tuesday, urged his opponents in the just concluded National Assembly poll to join hands with him to develop and uplift the constituency. Ogene, who stated this recently, argued that fault-finding and divisiveness should not be entertained in Ogbaru after the election as it would jeopardise the peace and development of the constituency.

* The financial system and operations at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State has been upgraded in line with global best financial and management practices. This disclosure was made by the institution’s Bursar, Mr. Gozie Egwuatu during an interview at his office.

* The Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu says part of the present Government House, Agu-Awka will be converted to ‘Silicon Valley’ after the movement of Office of the Governor to the new site, adjacent the Federal High Court, Awka. Chukwulobelu reiterated that Soludo’s passion in the transformation of the state into a digital controlled community. 

* The Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Anambra state council has decried the way and manner beggars were constituting nuisance in Anambra State, especially within Awka, the Capital city. The union led by Dr. Odugwu Emeka Odugwu during its congress called on Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo led administration to pay particular attentions to Aroma junction, Regina Caeli junction, Unizik tempsite, Amawbia junction and Eke Awka market axis where increasing presence of beggars sometimes obstruct free flow of traffics, and urgently convey them to rehabilitation centres so as to prevent accidents and other calamities it could cause.

* Anambra House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor has approved the request to allow the Commissioner for Culture, Entertaining and Tourism Mr. Donatus Onyenji to execise the function as stipulated under part 3, section 24(6) of the state Tourism and Hospitality Agency law 2016.

The assembly at plenary approved the request after the Chairman house committee on culture, tourism and diaspora matters Hon. Sonny Ozobialu presented the report asking the lawmakers to consider the request.

* The Awka Muslim Community has explained that their invitation to the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, to their mosque was to fraternise with him as they always did in the past, and to encourage him on his journey to New Nigeria, not minding the falsehoods peddled against him. They said that they had wanted to visit Mr Peter Obi at his house in Onitsha. However, on receiving their invitation, Obi offered to visit them at the mosque and celebrate Eid el Fitr with them. Speaking at the Central Mosque in Awka, the Zonal Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, recalled that Obi never failed to celebrate their sallah with them when he was the Governor of the State, a ritual he continued after. He praised Obi for his visible contributions to the development of their Community over the years.

* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Echeng Echeng, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali has presented cheques worth Thirty-eight million, three hundred and sixty-two thousand, seven hundred and twenty-two naira, sixty-seven kobo only to the sixteen (16) families of deceased Police officers attached to the Command. ANN reports that the gesture is an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police ‘IGP family welfare insurance scheme’ aimed at giving succour to the family of Police officers who died in active service.
