* 200-level students of the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) embarked on a practical excursion to Fides Media, Awka, to gain firsthand experience in media production and publishing.
Led by Dr. Henry Duru and Dr. Dada Oluyemi Michael, the visit exposed the students to the operational realities of book and newspaper publishing, printing, digital media streaming, and photography — essential aspects of journalism and mass communication.
The Production Manager of Fides Media, Mr Alexander Johnson-Adejoh, spoke to the students, explaining the processes involved in managing production flow and ensuring quality output. He detailed how teamwork across the departments ensured the timely and efficient production of the newspaper and other publications.
* The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has commended Anambra
Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye for his role in ensuring that the party keeps progressing in the state,
Mefor while speaking during the visit at his office in Awka, stated that APGA is the first progressive and most prosperous party in the state.
The Commissioner expressed his loyalty to the party leadership and assured that he will work with other stakeholders to ensure APGA’s victory in the forthcoming guber election, particularly in Idemili North LGA where he hails from.
In his response, Anambra APGA Chairman, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, stressed the need for all party stakeholders in Idemili to come together and unite the people, pointing out that APGA is one big family.
He observed that he, the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner for Works, and the Information Commissioner are from Idemili North LGA, and appreciated Mefor for remaining his true self despite his new position.
* Anambra Government will soon commence the documentation of students in public tertiary institutions across the state to give them bursary awards.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated this at International Convention Centre, Awka during a mega rally held for him by Anambra students where they endorsed him for a second term and donated two million naira to him to support his reelection bid.
Soludo, who noted that the initiative will alleviate financial burden on students, urged them to embrace the Federal Government students’ loan scheme to sustain their academic pursuits.
* Osisioma foundation offered free treatments to many patients, especially the elderly and the vulnerable in umunya in line with the vision of the foundation which is to better lives.
The medical Team offered medicated glasses and Drugs to the patients, while various tests were carried out before issuing drugs to the beneficiaries.
In his address, during the flag-off of the exercise at umunya Town Hall, the commissioner for local Government, chieftaincy and Town union matters, Hon chief Collins Nwabunwanne described the President of osisioma foundation, Dr chike obidigbo as a humanitarian who has touched the lives of many especially the widows and the less privileged in the society.
Hon Nwabunwanne who ldentified himself as a member of the founder adding that he came to celebrate the great man and to express gratitude to God for keeping and sustaining Dr obidigbo.
* The Anambra State Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, has called on the Federal Government to give adequate recognition to and empower engineers to be the architects of change capable of enhancing the economic, infrastructural, and technological development of Nigeria.
Okoma disclosed this while speaking at the Monthly general meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Awka branch, held in Awka with the Theme: “The Role of Pubic, Private, Community Partnership (PPCP), in Anambra State’s Infrastructure Development.
According to the Commissioner, no country in the world has achieved sustained economic advancement without harnessing the power of engineering and innovation, declared that Nigeria, with its vast resources and entrepreneurial spirit, has all the ingredients necessary for industrial and technological transformation.
Okoma, however, noted that for the country to fully realise the desired technological development and advancement, the government must create an environment where engineering excellence, research, and innovation can thrive, translating into real economic impact.
* HRM. Igwe Peter Anugwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has officially handed over his official palace compound, including its buildings, to the Pallotttine Christian community, a religious body from the Roman Catholic Church.
Speaking during the donation, the traditional ruler said the two-story building, which includes about 10 sitting rooms, over 18 standard rooms, and a basement, was constructed by a foreign company more than 44 years ago.
Igwe Anugwu explained that his decision to gift the entire palace, with the exception of the building where he resides, is a gesture of gratitude to God, who has blessed him with prosperity. He emphasized that he invited fellow traditional rulers, government representatives, and a few others to witness the event to ensure it is properly documented while he is alive.
* Anambra State Government hereby informs the general public that following the noticeable decline in the number of applicants expressing interest in joining the Nigerian Army from Anambra State, the Chief of Army Staff has approved a sensitisation team to enlighten Anambra youths on the benefits of joining the Nigerian Army.
In an announcement by Anambra
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, stated that, according to a statement from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja, the
sensitisation team will be visiting Anambra State for 89 Regular Recruits Intake Sensitisation Exercise between 6 – 12 April, 2025.
The team will also guide interested applicants on the application process for ease of registration, while the
youth leaders, who will be enlightened will in turn sensitise youths in their various communities.
Anambra youths within 18 and 22 years of age are therefore advised to enroll into the Nigeria Army.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a new Anambra State Security supervisory committee.
Performing the inauguration ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, Governor Soludo emphasized the urgent need for innovative solutions to address the challenges posed by crime and social unrest, noting that the committee will serve as a vital platform for collaboration between government agencies and the community to create a safer environment for all citizens of Anambra.
The committee is mandated to ensure that the units of Agunechemba and their members are duly registered in accordance with the law, monitoring their activities and generally improving the overall security landscape in the state.
* The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Majescity Real Estate and Investment, Mr Okwuchukwu Okonkwo, has said Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s road projects in rural communities are aiding the growth of real estate business in the State.
Okonkwo said this during a conference on sustainable real estate, hosted in Awka, with the theme: “Building for Tomorrow: The Role of Real Estate in Sustainable Human Development.”
The businessman said access roads were part of the things that drive development in any community, noting that because of road projects in various communities by Soludo, prices of properties in such places have gone up, thereby causing boom in business for people in real estate.
* Justice Development and Peace Caritas, (JDPC) has commenced renovations of primary health centres (PHCs) and schools that were badly damaged by flooding in twelve out of the sixteen communities of Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The renovation is being carried by JDPC’s Flood Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Project, funded by Catholic Relief Services.
The Project Lead, JDPC Onitsha, Shadrach Nwekeagu, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, explained that a stakeholders’ town hall meeting was earlier held to prepare the locals for the renovation.
Nwekeagu said the renovation of Odekpe Primary School, Obuetiti has been completed with provision of toilet facilities and soaker pit. “We had to reinforce the foundation of the classroom building and amended the cracks on the walls.
