* Anambra State High Court presided over by Honourable Justice Jude Obiorah, has adjourned to 11th April 2025 the cases of three Anambra native doctors namely 

Onyebuchi Okocha (Onyeze Jesus), Chidozie Nwangwu, (Akwa Okuko), and Ekene Igboekweze, (Eke Hit), accused of criminal activities, including preparing Oke-ite.

Speaking to newsmen after the court proceedings, one of the Counsels for the three defendants, Remigus Okoli, said the state government came with a ploy to remand the defendants, saying that proper service and giving accused adequate time to prepare for defense are very fundamental as enshrined in the constitution and relevant laws of the state.

Okoli claimed that the law is on their side in defending the accused.

* A total of three thousand two hundred  delegates voted in the governorship  primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance holding at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square today.

The delegates who are APGA faithful from the three hundred and twenty six political wards in Anambra State were accredited according to their local governments in a peaceful and orderly manner by APGA leadership.

Speaking to newsmen, a delegate for the election, Honourable Jude Ngaobiri representing Ihiala Constituency One in Anambra State House of Assembly observed that the accreditation went on peacefully as they have unimpeded access to the square where the primary election will hold.

In their reactions,the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, Chief Boniface Okonkwo and Chief Francis Chukwudebelu who are delegates for the election, pointed out that the large number of APGA members that came for the primary election is a testament to the fantastic works Governor Chukwuma Soludo is doing in Anambra State.

* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has emphasized the vital role traditional rulers play in achieving comprehensive national security in recognition of their influence and privileged positions.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant stated this while on a familiarization visit to palace of His Majesty Pharm. Alex Uzo Onyido, the revered traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

The NSCDC State helmsman said traditional rulers play a vital role in maintaining security within their communities. According to him, as custodians of indigenous customs and culture, traditional rulers are uniquely positioned to provide purposeful leadership in security management within their communities. 

Commandant Maku expressed heartfelt gratitude to Igwe OgidI and the community on behalf of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, for conceiving the idea of constructing a tactical outpost for the Civil Defence in Ogidi intended  to purportedly foster relative peace and security within the community and its surrounding towns.

* International Budget Partnership, (IBP) has tasked partners implementing its health and agricultural projects in various states to look beyond addressing symptoms but the root causes of the problems.

IBP’s Strategy and Policy Lead, Onyekachi Chukwu, gave the charge during a two-day training on enhancing communication skills and driving systems change organized in Awka as part of the Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge, (SPARK 2) campaign.

SPARK 2 project, which focuses on agriculture and health sectors, is being implemented in Anambra State by Justice Development and Peace Caritas, (JDPC), Community Empower Network (COMEN) and Civil Rights Concern (CRC).

The Strategy and Policy Lead explained that the workshop is to deliver the new target of IBP in SPARK project to implementers across the states. 

* Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged the All Progressives Congress flag bearer in the Anambra state Governorship election billed for November 8, 2025.

Ukachukwu was declared the winner of the primary election held  at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, Awka, having polled a total of one thousand four hundred and fifty five votes out of one thousand six hundred and thirty votes cast, and twenty six invalid votes.

The three other contestants, Mr Val Ozigbo, polled sixty seven votes to come second, John Bosco Onunkwo  polled  twenty six votes to come third while Edozie Mmadu  polled eight votes to come fourth.

Announcing the results, the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Mr Bassey Otu who is the chief Returning Officer of the election commended the umpire, security agents, members of various committees, aspirants and the party members for playing their part towards the success of the event, calling on everyone to support the winner to enable the party come out victorious at the November election.

Addressing the party members, Prince Ukachukwu appreciated President Tinubu and the working committee of the party for giving them a hitch free primary and thanked members of the party for the confidence reposed in him to represent the party in the forth coming gubernatorial election, promising to make the party proud if he is elected come November, 2025.

* The Police-led Joint Security Team comprising the Army, from the 302 Artillery Regiment (GS), Navy from the Naval Command, Department of State Security, Anambra State Vigilante, acting on information received over time dislodged a criminal Camp at Ogbunka. 

The Joint Security Team in a six (6) hours gun battle with the armed criminals, due to its superior firepower diffused some explosives used as shields on the camp by the hoodlums.

According to a press release from SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Command, the team also recovered a lot of relief materials like pots, foodstuffs and parts of dismembered suspected stolen vehicles even as some of the criminals escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries inflicted on them. 

“The Operatives have taken over the area to sustain security dominance aimed at addressing any untoward situation that may arise and to  possibly arrest the fleeing suspects.

“Given the above, the Anambra State Police Command assures on behalf of other security agencies that the confidence reposed on her by Ndi Anambra and residents alike for the protection of lives and properties is not taken for granted”. Ikenga stated

* Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council has passed a vote of confidence on Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu as the chairman and leader with excellent qualities, and as well passed a confidence vote on his executive. 

The members of the union unanimously

passed the vote of confidence during its April Congress held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, Awka.

The motion was moved by Dr. Stanley Onunkwo, chairman of Information Chapel and supported by Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, member of Angel Network chapel and NUJ Matriarch Anambra/National NUJ Icon as supported unanimously by Congress. 

*The entire political architecture of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA

unanimously endorsed Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the party ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

The exercise was transparently conducted under the watchful eyes of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from both the federal and state levels, who monitored the entire process from accreditation to collation, attesting to its orderliness and credibility.

The APGA convention, held at the Alex Ekwueme Square recorded 3,260 accredited delegates, out of which 3,175 cast their votes. 

Of those, 3,168 were valid, with only four invalid entries, each one of the valid votes going to Soludo, a clean sweep that underscored the confidence reposed in his leadership.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Chief Nwaegbo Uche, officially declared Soludo returned as the party’s candidate, citing the unprecedented support across the board.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo paid homage to the founding spirit of APGA, describing it as the first registered progressive party in Nigeria, dating back to 2002. 

He expressed gratitude to mdi Anambra, to the clergy, traditional rulers, the over sixty support groups, students, and countless individuals whose voluntary cash donations and constant encouragement had propelled the journey thus far. 

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election victory is a clear indication of the confidence ndi Anambra reposed in him and his purposeful administration which has continued to benefit the entire citizenry in many ways.

Speaking at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka during the APGA primary election, Rt. Hon. Udeze expressed gratitude to APGA delegates from the three hundred and twenty six electoral wards in the State who returned Governor Soludo unopposed, adding that their votes are enough motivation to Governor Soludo, who he said, has distinguished himself among his colleagues in his efforts to equal Anambra with the few first class states in Nigeria in terms of development.

The Speaker expressed satisfaction that Governor Soludo could capture the hearts of Ndi  Anambra through good governance and enjoined the larger electorate irrespective of their party affiliations to make November 8, 2025 an important date to record another political history in the State by ensuring that Governor Soludo is unanimously reelected.

Rt. Hon. Udeze said that the State Legislature has passed a vote of implicit confidence in Governor Soludo during his three years in office in view of his impressive development strides in the State, assuring that APGA will secure victory in all the thirty constituencies in the State in the forth coming governorship election.

He used the occasion to extol Governor Soludo for the drastic improvement his administration has continued to make on security and called on the entire citizenry to see the security of lives and property as a collective responsibility.

* About eight persons were feared to have sustained varying degrees of injury following a clash between the supporters of two frontline governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the accreditation of delegates for the Saturday primary election of the party.

The supporters of Ukachukwu and Obiora Okonkwo traded blame over the incident, alleging that the other group initiated the violence at the Beautiful Gate Hotel in Agu Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.

Trouble began at the hotel gate, which was reportedly taken over by Ukachukwu’s private security operatives and suspected thugs, who, without support from security personnel at the venue, began preventing accredited delegates without Ukachukwu’s campaign identification from entering the venue.
