# The Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Anambra State, Most Rev Valerian Maduka Okeke celebrated 2026 Easter with inmates of Onitsha Correctional Center.

In his homily speech, tittle; Faith and Prayers” at the celebration took place at the premises of the Correctional facility,
the Archbishop urged the inmates to have absolute faith in God and to maintain love with each other.

Okeke emphasized the importance of faith to human existence and urged the inmates to have faith and look on to God.

He admonished the Inmates to unveil themselves with the opportunities such as the skill acquisition center, education and other opportunities provided in the Onitsha Correctional center for their own good as according to him would go a long way in making them useful to themselves and the society at large after serving their terms.

 

# The new Anambra State Head of Service (HOS) Barrister Ngozi Iwouno, has kicked off her administration by conducting a clean-up exercise across all ministries at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.

Joined by Permanent Secretaries from various ministries, the clean-up exercise took Iwouno, from the building housing her office to the last building, covering offices, the old secretariat, the frontage of the secretariat gate, and other surrounding areas.

Speaking after the exercise, Iwouno said the initiative became necessary following Governor Soludo’s impromptu visit to the secretariat, during which he discovered several issues, including the fact that the offices were dirty and littered with obsolete equipment.

The Head Of Service stated that the clean-up exercise would become a monthly routine, adding that, going forward, the Anambra State Civil Service would be a pace-setter in the country, and called on all civil servants to be environmentally friendly by properly managing their waste to ensure a clean environment.

# The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) under the leadership of Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi has joined Nigeria and Africa football family in extending her warmest congratulatory message to Mr. Samson Adamu on his appointment as the Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a letter, ANSFA Chairman Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi praised Adamu’s achievement, describing it as a moment of immense pride for Nigeria and African football.

The ANSFA boss noted that this achievement is a testament to Adamu’s dedication, competence, and contributions to African football.

 

# Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, the APGA Aspirant for Anambra North Senatorial Zone has outlined a comprehensive agenda aimed at empowering youths across the zone and providing representation that will elevate their prospects.

Speaking during an interaction with stakeholders, Obiogbolu stressed that the future of Anambra North lies in the strength, creativity, and productivity of its young population. He noted that for too long, many youths in the zone have been left without adequate support, opportunities, or guidance to fully realize their potential.

He pledged to champion policies and programmes that will open up access to federal government grants and empowerment initiatives, ensuring that youths in Anambra North are not left behind. According to him, his office will serve as a bridge, connecting young people to available opportunities and equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed.

Obiogbolu emphasized that his approach goes beyond rhetoric, promising practical empowerment through skills acquisition, enterprise support, and mentorship programmes that will drive sustainable development.

# Traders at Ogbaru Main Market have appealed to Igbo billionaire Arthur Eze to fulfil his 2025 promise to donate a modern fire-fighting truck to the market.

The traders made the appeal while commending ongoing reconstruction efforts led by market chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, which have improved roofing, ventilation, spacing, and network accessibility.

Chairman of line chairmen, Chinyereugo Nwamaduka, said the request became necessary to strengthen safety measures, noting that a fire truck would complement newly installed fire extinguishers across the market.

Market secretary, Stanley Ahamefuna, expressed optimism that Arthur Eze would honour the pledge, adding that traders have waited patiently for the donation.

# A clegyman, Venerable Tochukwuu Sagacious Ikezue, has joined the  Anambra Central Senatorial District race for the forthcoming election.

Senator Victor Umeh, who currently occupies the seat after winning the election on the Labour Party (LP) platform before decamping to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is also seeking a return ticket.

Announcing his aspiration under the mantra ‘A New Dawn for Nigeria’, Ikezue described his entry into the race as a response to the growing demand for credible leadership rooted in integrity and service.

# Onitsha Beer Market have staged a peaceful protest, calling on the Anambra State Government to come to their aid and save their only source of livelihood.

Worried by what they tagged intimidation and harassment by an individual who was allegedly said to have caused untold hardship to them, the traders stormed the Light House Awka, chanting various songs and displaying placards with different inscriptions portraying their grievances.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, Lord Uche lamented that the said individual locked the entrance gate into the market, aside increasing and initiating various levies which they said he forced them to be paying as anyone who dares to challenge him would be arrested and detained.

According to the protesters, the said man did not stop with the traders, but extended the levy to wheel barrow pushers and transporters conveying their goods into the market

# The Mayor of Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has called on members of the public to disregard a purported statement by a certain group called Ikenga Umueri Unity Forum alleging leadership crisis in Umueri General Assembly (UGA).

Chinweze who spoke to this journalist exclusively concerning what he saw as blatant falsehood being propagated by the said group through a certain character in Malaysia acting as ” Simon Ekpa” and causing disaffection amongst the people through fictitious and frivolous articles about Umueri community, maintained that Umueri is peaceful and plans have been concluded for the town union election to be conducted on Wednesday April 8, 2026.

Although the said statement from Ikenga Umueri Unity Forum signed by Chief Dan Ekwevi, Dr. Chinedu Ekweonu and Chief Obi Monulu, had accused the Mayor Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, the electoral committee chairman Barr. Eugene Aghaebe and the incumbent PG Chief John Metchie of allegedly scuttling the election process but the Mayor, who hails from Ivite-Umueri debunked the allegations, saying that Ikenga people were the ones frustrating conduct of the town union election with their avaricious attitudes and selfish disposition.

Chinweze said that Chief John Metchie and Barr. Eugene Aghaebe were innocent of the allegations levelled against them. That the crime he committed was because he insisted that Ikenga Quarters won’t get PG position and at the same time get Secretary and VP positions at Otuocha, which is central to the three quarters of Umueri community viz Ezi, Ikenga and Ivite respectively.
