* Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo says with proper dieting and regular health checks, rising mortalities resulting from acute diabetes and high blood pressure could be checkmated. Mrs Soludo, who was speaking in Awka, explained that one of the major challenges against the dangerous sicknesses is the unwillingness to eat right, and going for regular and proper medical checks. The governor’s wife, who stated that both ailments could be managed only if discovered early, emphasized the benefits of the right dietary habits to boost the immune system and fend off diseases.
* His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke of the Catholic Diocese of Ekwuluobia has describe priesthood as a vocation that requires persistence, steadfastness, humility and prayerful life which will help them to achieve the mandate given to them as priests.
Okpalaeke during the pontifical high mass, which took place at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral Ekwuluobia, charged them to intensify their apostolicism towards the elderly by caring and praying for them.
* President-General of Ogidi International Market, Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Jude Nwankwo has demanded the refund of 30 million naira paid in error to the Anambra state government through the Ministry of Transport as Internally Generated Revenue. The PG who briefed journalists on lingering issues hinted that the traders in Ogidi international market paid 30 million naira to the state government as Internally Generated Revenue to prevent touts from coming into the market to collect the IGR from traders.
* Care, shelter and protection for victims of sexual and gender-based violence, as well as correctional homes for child offenders have been identified as priority needs in addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence in Anambra State. The Coordinator of Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection Laws of Anambra State 2017, VAPP, Committee, Mrs. Nkiruka Okoye, who disclosed this in an interview with Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha said there is need for successful rehabilitation of victims and child offenders before reintegration into the society.
* Ambassador Innocent Nduanya, Deputy National President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State on his developmental achievements within one year in office noting that with what the governor has achieved that he is optimistic that by the time the governor will clock up to his mandatory four years in office that he will achieve much in the state.
* The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, has urged ministers of God to emulate Jesus Christ in holiness and righteousness, and shun all forms of ministerial distractions. The prelate made the call at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka, during a special service.
* Prof. Dennis Aribodor, a Professor of Public Health Parasitology of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has identified primary health care as basic and closest to the people for quick response to health care but expressed concern that less than 10 medical doctors work in the PHCs in all the 21 local government areas of the state with acute lack of other human resources for health. Prof. Aribodor, who made the observation while speaking exclusively with our correspondent in his office in Awka, said there is currently an emergency situation in the primary health care sector because the right personnel are not there and that the confidence of the people are not there to patronise the primary health care centres.
* The traditional ruler of Awka Community, Obi Gibson Nwosu, says the clean, green and sustainable environment initiative, recently inaugurated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, will go a long way in safeguarding Anambra State environment.
Speaking to newsmen in his palace on the development accomplishments of Governor Soludo within one year in office, Obi Nwosu described him as a Governor that has the interest of the people at heart. He said that the governor has through his programmes and policies shown that he is committed to improving the standard of living of Ndi Anambra and charged the people to key into the initiative for a healthy living.
* The presidential candidate of Labour Party in the just concluded presidential election and a former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, extolled the on-going massive work in the Catholic Diocese of Ekwuluobia which according to him, is for the growth of the gospel. Obi called for more focus on education and health.
