* A stray dog allegedly foraging for food has retrieved an abandoned baby boy in a forest in Abagana in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. A source told newsmen that the stray dog carried the infant across a busy road and kept it at public glare apparently for passersby to pick baby up for rehabilitation.

* There are rumours that at least three people were killed in Awka, Anambra State capital as a result of ongoing cult war among cultists in the city. One of the attacks happened in the full glare of traders and passersby at Eke Awka market. According to an eye witness, two tricycles were driving recklessly along Ziks Avenue at Eke Awka.

* The Acropolis Golf Course, Okija Anambra has held its maiden tournament with no fewer than 82 professional and amateur golfers from across Nigeria participating. The Acropolis Golf Course is the first privately owned nine-hole course sitting on a 42-hectre with undulating topography and natural in the heart of Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.Francis Epe, Nigeria’s reigning number one golfer from Ikoyi Country Club won the tournament with 12 under par, 60 to set the course at the Inaugural event.

* The Member representing Idemili North Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Kingsley Udemezue has received an award for being a friend of the Abatete Archdeaconry at the 2024 women conference in St. Peters Anglican Church, Abacha. The award was given in recognition for His excellent contributions to the advancement of humanity by the Archdeacon of Abatete Archdeaconry, Ven. Chidi Onyetube. The Archdeacon lauded Hon. Udemezue’s achievements and the important role he has played in the development of Idemili North and the state as a whole.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde has ordered the deployment of 951of its personnel across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. Maku stated this in Awka on Monday through an Operational Order issued to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers (DOs), Heads of Formation and tactical units, instructing them to ensure sufficient security coverage and peaceful conduct of the Sallah celebrations in the state.

According to him, proactive and robust anti- crime measures, including deployment of tactical and intelligence assets of the command are already in place to prevent any untoward incidents in and around the state.

* Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has tasked his aides and other political office holders on the need for judicious use of public funds.

Soludo has since he took office as Anambra governor campaigned for patronage of Nigerian made products and cutting down on cost of governance. Soludo who attended a thanksgiving service organized by the member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Princess Chinwe Clara Nnabuife, at St Paul’s Church, Umunze advised political office holders against stealing public funds.

* Senator representing Anambra North, Dr Nwoye has expressed shock over the State of Onitsha Divisional Library. Nwoye voiced his shock during an impromptu visit to the library. Established in 1966 by the late Dim Chukwuemaka Ojukwu, then Military Administrator of the defunct Eastern Nigeria, the library now faces significant challenges. During his tour guided by Senior Library Assistant Helen Okonkwo, the senator lamented the “terrible infrastructural decay” at the institution that once played a crucial role in his educational journey.

Engr. Dr. Kizito Nnamdi Onunkwo and Amb. Obiora Okpalajiugo have been inducted into the Pioneer UNIZIK Hall of Fame. The special induction ceremony held at the office of the Director, UNIZIK Business School (UBS) was a follow up of the Hall of Fame and award presentation ceremony of the 17th UNIZIK Convocation held in December 2023 which witnessed the convergence of political office holders, captains of industries, philanthropists and friends of the University in attendance.

* The remains of the late Mr. Shedrack Okoye of Amaokwe chapter in Enugwu quarters, Umuawulu, in Awka South council area have been laid to rest. Aged seventy, late Mr. Okoye met his untimely death on December 25, 2023, when he was attacked by a masquerade for not offering money to the said masquerade. The burial ceremony was well attended by members of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Movement.
