* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reaffirmed his resolve to upgrade Awka to a befitting capital city. The Governor stated this while inspecting the proposed site for Awka mechanic village. ANN gathered that the mechanic village will consist of over one hundred and thirty mechanic shops, spare parts markers with over four hundred shops, space for car park and other modern facilities.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr Dr Felix Odimegwu has disclosed that government was putting every machinery in motion to ensure a conducive and disease-free environment for the populace. Odimegwu while speaking in Awka commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo who he said has done well in ensuring a healthy environment for the state.

* Two students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School have won Gold medal in the just concluded Inspector General of Police Taekwondo Championship in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State. UNIZIK High School represented Anambra State in the competition.

* Rev. Fr. Prof. Boniface Anthony Chijioke Obiefuna has extended love to the bedridden living in Awkaeze in celebration of his 40 Years Anniversary as a Catholic priest. The event took place at St Michael’s Parish, Awkaeze, with the celebrant sharing sustainable items to some bedridden in the community. Many of the beneficiaries who were about 90 in number were represented by family members, as well as caregivers who received gift items on their behalf alongside those who were able to come.

* The house of the former deputy speaker Anambra assembly and the member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Paschal Agbodike has been set ablaze by some yet-to-be-identified assailants. ANN gathered that the hoodlums invaded the house located in Ubahi-Mbosi in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra at about 1: am on Tuesday August 8th and started shooting sporadically before setting the house ablaze.

* The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye says the agency had commissioned a scientific study on the best approach towards mitigating the health hazards posed by ripening of fruits with carbides. Adeyeye while speaking during the South-East Zone Media Sensitization Workshop on Danger of Drug Hawking And Ripening of Fruits With Calcium Carbide held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, maintained that the consumption of fruits ripened with calcium carbide may cause cancer, heart failure, kidney failure, and liver failure.

* Officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), have successfully reclaimed a land housing a school that was allegedly grabbed by a land speculator in Okukwa, Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.
The land which has been in existence for about fifty years now was grabbed by a land speculator who went ahead to sell some portions of the land to another individual.

* Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State is no longer at ease because the centre can not hold and mere anarchy is loosed upon the town as two traditional rulers and two Presidents-General fight for supremacy. Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha who disclosed that the Vincent Udobi led rebel group has installed another President-General in the community even as his tenure is still running, maintained that he has pictorial evidences where Vincent Udobi is acting as traditional ruler and conferring chieftancy titles on people, stressing that Udobi has sworn never to allow peace reign in Ifitedunu community.

* Anambra State Football Association Chairman, General Chikelue Iloenyosi has been bestowed with Best FA Chairman, philanthropic and father of all stars games award. The award which was bestowed on him by Coal City Football League in conjunction with Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports was in recognition of his capacity in the administration and development of football in the country.

* Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ACCIMA, has installed the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SCOA Heritage Publishers, Awka, Engr Chudy Egemba, as its president to pilot the affairs of the Chamber for next two years. In his acceptance speech, Engr Egemba pledged to consolidate on the achievement of his predecessors to uplift the Chamber to greater heights.

* Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called on mothers to use this year’s August Meeting to deliberate on how best to contribute towards development and progress of the society. The Deputy Governor gave the advice at Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, while speaking on the essence of August Meeting.
