* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called on youths in the state to embrace the numerous opportunities being provided for them by the present administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to be useful to themselves, their families and the society at large. Dr. Ibezim also called on the youths to take advantage of the initiative so that they could become a solution to themselves and the society.
Deputy Governor Ibezim made the call during the official inauguration ceremony of the new state executives of the Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, at Dunamis International Christian Center, Awka.
* Following an unscheduled visit by the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Carol Arinze Umobi, on Friday, 2nd August 2024, the Management of the institution has commenced the renovation of hostels starting from the Stella Okoli Hostel, The prompt initiation of this project underscores the Acting Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing student living conditions on campus. During her visit, Professor Umobi expressed her dedication to ensuring that students have access to safe, comfortable, and conducive living environments.
* Insufficient funds has slowed down the response to the increasing incidents and prevalence of tuberculosis in Anambra State. The Manager of the State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Burili Ulcer Control Program, Dr Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, disclosed
this at a one-day Consultative Breakfast meeting on Tuberculosis with the Private Sector, organized by the Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, as part of its Fund TB Project in Anambra State. The project implemented by five NGOs across five South-East and South-South states, is funded by USAID through the Palladium Group, under its Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE).
* Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has launched the second batch of the “One Youth, Two Skills” Solution at the International Convention Centre, Awka. Speaking at the event which witnessed more than 8,000 participants that qualified for the second batch of the programme. Soludo described the children and the youth as the bridge to the future saying that is why his administration prioritizes human capital development.
* A popular mass movement in Anambra State known as ‘Oga Ndi Oga Foundation’ has hailed the passage of South-East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law, describing it as an interesting development news of the year. The Founder/CEO of the Foundation High Chief Godwin Agbasimelo in an interview with journalists in Awka, Anambra State capital called on President Tinubu to distance the Commission from political jobbers and in so doing channel its activities to grassroots development in rural and urban areas across the five States of the zone.
* A self-acclaimed herbalist has been arrested with no fewer than eleven human bones in Anambra State. The suspect, identified as Ezekiel, who hails from Ezza in Ebonyi State was arrested over the weekend by security operatives in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, where he lives. According to a video currently trending on social media, the security operatives raided the residence of the suspect, following a tip-off on some unusual activities observed by some residents.
* The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors’ Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has declared that Edozie Njoku, who claims to be the National Chairman of APGA, will fizzle out by October. Obigwe dismissed Njoku’s recent appearance at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters as insignificant. According to Obigwe, Njoku’s actions were driven by desperation for acceptance and legitimacy.
* Electronic traders at the Electronics Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, have commended the High Court of Atani for ruling in favor of Ifechi Anozie against Chief Donatus Obi, the Chairman of the three-man administration in the Market.
Anozie had taken Chief Donatus Obi to court through his legal counsel, Chief Ugo Ugwunnadi, seeking an injunction to prevent them from collecting any levies other than government taxes and development fees from Market members.
* The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (FA), General Chikelue Iloenyosi, has given hint that he’s going to Unveil U13 and U15 Football competitions as part of his grassroot football development in the state. Iloenyosi revealed that since his emergence as the Anambra State Football Association Chairman, he has done much to uplift Football in the state to give the youths a platform to make a good living from Football and as well give the state a good image.
* In a significant meeting with Deputy Registrars, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi emphasized her commitment to a fair and transparent selection process for the next Vice-Chancellor. Drawing parallels with John the Baptist, she vowed to “smooth the way” for her successor. Prof. Arinze-Umobi acknowledged the crucial role of Deputy Registrars in university operations and urged them to continue their good work. She highlighted her achievements in combating cadre stagnation and promoting peace, cleanliness, and academic continuity when she was deputy vice Chancellor.
* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programmes, Dr Nelson Omenugha, has expressed optimism that the “1Youth, 2Skills” Solution Initiative will empower thousands of youths in Anambra to become self reliant and employers of labour. Dr Omenugha stated this in Awka during the flag-off of the second phase of the initiative by Governor Soludo.
