* Anambra State Government has launched “Operation Show Your Building Permit”, a policy aimed at curbing the menace of illegal structures in the state and its attendant issues. The Development Control Enforcement Team, led by the Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barr. Chike Maduekwe embarked on the exercise on Thursday. The operation is expected to be replicated in other areas of the state, marking a new era in building regulation enforcement in Anambra State.

* To be in touch with global realities, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Sandwich directorate has embraced online digitalization to facilitate the teaching and learning process for university lecturers and students. To enhance the intellectual proficiency of students, the unit organized a programme tagged, orientation and 2023/2024 further training on online learning and timely response in Sandwich programme.

* The Acting President, Nigerian Union Of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Anambra State Chapter, Mr Nicholas Aromeh has challenged workers in the state to be productive and efficient. Aromeh stated this at NULGE in Secretariat Awka when the executive members of association in Anambra West paid him a courtesy call. He noted that the present administration is doing all within its reach to ensure things worked out at the local government system, stating that is the reason for the ongoing renovations and equipping o most of the LGAs.

* The Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Igwe Chigozie, has urged the newly inaugurated Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to ensure a free and fair local government election in the state. Hon. Igwe, while spoking at a press briefing in Awka emphasized the need for ANSIEC to maintain its independence and avoid bias towards the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government. He warned that PDP would not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in the upcoming local government elections, stating that the party is fully prepared and positioned to win the majority of the elections.

* The Anambra State Road Traffic Agency (ARTMA) has suspended three of its female officers caught on camera engaging in a physical altercation with a notorious police traffic warden at Aroma Junction, Awka. The incident, which occurred while the officers were on duty, sparked widespread condemnation on social media after a video of the brawl went viral. In a statement, ARTMA’s Management, led by MD/CEO Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, expressed regret over the incident, stating that it did not reflect the agency’s standards and values. The agency announced that a thorough investigation had been conducted, resulting in the immediate suspension of the personnel involved, pending further disciplinary actions.

* A civil society activist, Chima Asomba has re-emphasized on the benefits of private sector involvement in eradicating tuberculosis in Anambra. Asomba while speaking at a one-day Consultative breakfast meeting on Tuberculosis with the Private Sector, organized by the Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, as part of its Fund TB Project in Anambra State, said “With the transparency and accountability I have seen in TB control programme in Anambra State, I assure you that you can invest in DOT facilities, diagnostic tools, as well as education and sensitisation, which is at the root of the TB response. In some local governments like Awka North, Orumba North and others, we don’t have diagnostic tools for TB. You people can help to bridge the gap. It will go a long way in boosting domestic efforts towards eradicating TB in the state”.

* Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Investment, Mrs Obby Okwubanego, has emphasized that one youth two skills empowerment programme is a perfect platform that will raise skilled and smart youth entrepreneurs in Anambra State. Mrs.

Okwubanego gave the emphasis while noting that the programme has the capacity to boost the investment potentials of the state as many investors will always identify with a society that has the human capital and market for their business growth. According to Mrs Okwubanego, Anambra state government has continued to build huge bilateral relationships with foreign direct investors that will in due time yield positive result and will have direct impact on the economy of the state through job creation and improved revenue for Anambra state.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche has charged women to use this year’s August meeting to initiate plans and programmes towards societal reforms. The Commissioner Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche who is worried at the level of moral decadence and social vices which are being witnessed in the society today, was of the opinion that women can lead the charge for social and value reorientation if they make it a priority during this August meeting. Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche while wishing Anambra women a successful deliberations at this year’s August meeting, the Commissioner also asked the women to use this occasion to raise awareness on the importance of protecting child right and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP Law.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Chijioke Ozumba has affirmed his passion for his work that he works everyday as if it is his last day in office, and that his administration has on-going projects in the six towns that make up Local Government. Barr. Ozumba made this comment while responding to the Executives of the Building Materials International Market Ogidi who visited his office to commend him on his giant developmental strides going on in the communities simultaneously. The T.C Chairman maintained that he is following the footsteps of Governor Charles Soludo who has reduced the cost of Governance in Anambra State, employed more teachers, healthcare workers and is transforming the state at the same time.

* The Nigeria Plastic Solutions Activity (NPSA), and the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), have held a plastic waste recycling engagement for stakeholders in the State.
The stakeholder’s engagement which took place in Awka on Friday was targeted to highlight the shared commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Anambra State through strategic partnerships and innovative waste management solutions. Represented by the Senior Programme Manager, Benneth Obasiohia, Akinboro said the Nigeria Plastic Solutions Activity, aims to recycle forty-nine thousand metric tons of plastic waste in two years with twenty-nine thousand tons targeted from Anambra which is expected to boost local economies and create sustainable livelihoods.
