* The Rule of Law and Anti Corruption Program (ROLAC) of Anambra State, has charged the various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that work towards the elimination of Gender Based Violences (GBVs), to ensure they make defined coordination their modus operandi in the discharge of their duties.

The project officer of Rule of Law and Anti-corruption Program, Mr Shadrach Nwekeagu gave the charge at the Second Quarterly Coordination Meeting held in Awka. Nwekeagu, who equally emphasised the need for the CSOs to follow up their reports, stated that lack of proper coordination among them would make mess of the data they collated in their incident reports.

* The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi has approved for the institution to organize the first mega National Summit on Child Rights in Nigeria. Prof. Arinze-Umobi who is a scholar with passionate interest in child rights law, is determined to bring legal luminaries from across the nation to participate in the event, which will no doubt, place Nnamdi Azikiwe University at the fore front in the promotion of child rights scholarship and advocacy.

According to a press release, Dr. Obiorah Edogor, a Child Rights Crusader and communication expert, was appointed as the planning committee chairman to the the event initiated by the administration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone.

* Anambra State House of Assembly’s Committee on Housing and Urban Development has expressed amazement at the extensive development taking place at the ongoing construction and renovation projects at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square and Commissioners’ Quarters in Awka. The Chairman Housing Committee and Member representing Nnewi South Constituency One, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu, disclosed this during an oversight visit at the construction sites, which are being facilitated by the state government. The committee members including Hon. Chidi Ibemeka and Hon. Johnbosco Akaebuobi and Hon. Kingsley Udemezue conducted a thorough inspection of the construction and renovation activities, and paid close attention to both the progress of the building structures and the quality of materials being used.

* The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State (Ocha-Brigade) says it has ended open defecation and open urination in Onitsha, one of the biggest commercial cities in the world. Speaking in Onitsha, one of the Coordinators of the agency enforcing environmental cleanliness between Boromeo junction down to Head Bridge Onitsha, Uga junction and Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr. Ejike Odife, said Ocha-Brigade has won the war against indiscipline and culture of impunity in Onitsha. Odife stated that prior to the emergence of Ocha-Brigade, all the gutters and drainages in Onitsha were completely messed up with faeces and people urinating indiscriminately in public without recourse to air pollution and other environmental hazards posed by their actions. 

* The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Comdt. Maku Olatunde, has reaffirmed the Commandant General’s dedication to the welfare of serving and deceased officers and men. Comdt. Maku stated this at the State Comman⁰d Headquarters Awka while presenting NSCDC Anambra State Command welfare package to the family of the late Chief Superintendent of Corps, Dunu Grace who died in active service. He explained that the gesture underscores the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi’s, commitment to supporting the well-being of both serving and fallen personnel.

* The Senator Representing Anambra North Senatorial District Dr. Tony Nwoye has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers worth over N150 million to Local farmers in Anambra North Senatorial District.

Nwoye who is the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Primary Health Care and Disease Control, shared 1,900 bags of 50kg fertiliser to smallholder farmers across the four local government areas Anambra West, Anambra East, Oyi and Ayamelum in the first phase of the exercise as part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainable agricultural practices while Onitsha North, Onitsha South and Ogbaru will take part in the second Phase. In his remark, Dr. Tony Nwoye urged the recipients to make optimal use of the fertilizers, emphasizing that it is not for sale. 

* Anambra State Sports Development Commission has organized para-athletics seminar at Awka township stadium to strengthen para-athletics games in Southeast. The seminar was attended by sports officials from five States in the southeast, with the major aim of the seminar is to harmonize and reposition para-athletics games to a greater height and also reawaken the sporting spirit in the players. The Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Patrick Estate Onyedum extolled the officials and attendees for devoting their time, passion and initiative in the seeming success of the three days seminar.

* In a show of respect and solidarity, frontline governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma has suspended all political activities in the state for 30 days to mourn the demise of his political associate and brother, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah. Chukwuma, in a statement, described Ubah as an embodiment of energy who dedicated himself fully to every cause he believed in.

* Patients, including health insurance holders at Regina Caeli Hospital, a mission hospital owned and managed by the Catholic Church, have expressed outrage over the hospital’s new policy of charging utility bills to access healthcare services. According to patients, the hospital now demands a payment of N1,000 per head for utility bills before providing medical services, regardless of whether the patient is an in-patient or out-patient. This is in addition to other medical bills. Johnson Ebeh, a health insurance scheme holder, described the policy as “sad and exploitative.”

* Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu jnr, the son of late Biafran Warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has congratulated and endorsed Chief Edozie Njoku’s leadership as the National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). This is coming following the recent invitation and recognition of Chief Njoku as the authentic National Chairman of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the quarterly joint INEC/IPAC Strategic Meeting with National Chairmen of political parties in Nigeria, which recently held at the INEC Headquarters, Abuja.

In a congratulatory message penned to Chief Njoku, Ojukwu’s son, who is a Board of Trustee member of APGA, described Njoku as one of the original members of the party.
