* Anambra State Police Command has intercepted a misleading report tagged ‘Anambra Traditional Ceremony Descends Into Chaos As Gunmen Abduct 8, Injure 12’, describes the publication as a way to discredit professional police action, cause tension in the State, seek public sympathy and to distract ongoing police investigation. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer,

Anambra State Command, “To set the record straight, the suspects were arrested in the venue of the proposed ceremony after attempts by the Police to get them to answer for a petition against them. However, they have been debriefed and released to a reliable surety for other necessary Police action. The Command kindly urges members of the public to disregard such a report as it is mischievous, untrue and a product of fiction”. 

* The National Chairman of Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC) and the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Anambra State, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor has charged Nigeria Christians to exercise patience while serving God to fully receive his glory. He also charged the Christian faithful to show love to one another without boundaries. Bishop Ezeofor gave the charge in his sermon during a week-long National Convention of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC) Nigeria, held at Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Amaka Obi has applauded the council area humanitarian Aid Workers on the commemoration of 2024 World Humanitarian and Aid Workers Day. Hon. Obi in her congratulatory message, described them as dedicated workers that struggles every day to provide life-saving assistance to millions of people in Idemili and Anambra State.

* The former Deputy Speaker of the 6th Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon, Harford Oseke, has passed away.

Oseke suddenly collapsed and died on Monday after engaging in his regular exercise routine at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital. Efforts to revive him proved futile, and he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. His body has since been taken to Apex Medical Centre in Awka.

* Combined team of Police, Military and AVG operatives has busted a criminal den at Umuduru, Ihiala, Anambra State, rescued a kidnap victim unhurt. The feat is following an arrest of a suspect name (withheld) few weeks ago and his confession of being a member of a criminal/notorious kidnap gang terrorising the State, especially in Ihiala.

Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the rescued victim has been debriefed and released to the family, while Operations are still ongoing. 

* The Nnewi Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has established multi million naira Artificial Intelligence, AI, Coding and Robotics hub in Nnewi in a bid to prepare youths for the challenges of the 21st century. The center, located at Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary in the industrial town, is said to be the first of its kind in the South East geopolitical zone. It was established in partnership with EDUFUN Technik, headed by a Harvard University- trained Technovation expert, Mrs. Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu.

* An All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) aspirant for the scheduled September 28, 2024 local government elections in Anambra State, Bro. Dennis Ikegwuonu has declared his intention to contest for Chairmanship of Nnewi North Council Area. Ikegwuonu who is currently the Chairman, Agboedo Motor Spare Parts Association, Nnewi, said at the declaration in his Uru Umudim community that he was coming with seven point reshape agenda to put things aright in Nnewi North. He cited road and traffic management, education and research development, security of lives and property, health care delivery, agriculture and food security as the areas that he would give priority in his administration.

* Former Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Aguata branch, Chief Clifford Okoye says a social media report that eight persons were kidnapped and few others injured in Amakor village, Nanka, Orumba North Council Area, Anambra State is false. Chief Okoye who is the legal adviser to Nanka Patriotic Union (NPU), in an interview with journalists said such an incident did not happen in the area. He described the report as misleading, mischievous, dangerous and a deliberate attempt to portray the town as unsafe capable of dissuading the indigenes of the community in diaspora from returning home to celebrate the oncoming new yam festival taking place soon in the town.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the death Rt. Harford Oseke as a shock to the legislative institution. Late Rt. Hon. Harford Oseke was the Deputy Speaker of the 6th Anambra Assembly and the member who represented Awka South two Constituency. In his condolence message, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that the late Deputy Speaker was able to give a good account of his stewardship especially in his political career where he empowered a lot of people in addition to constructing numerous constituency projects. 

* A quarter in Ojoto community, Idemili South local government area of Anambra state, comprising six villages of Akabor, Ezema, Enugo, Umuezema, Ngoogwugwu, and Iru Ebelebe celebrated their 2024 Ufejioku festival, also known as the New Yam Festival, at their market square. The event, declared open by Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, represented by Chief Romanus Anyisia, alongside Chief Patrick Onwuaraghi (Asato Ojoto), was a resounding success. During the festival, Chief Romanus prayed and thanked God for the lives of all present and the successful harvest. He emphasized the importance of appreciating God’s mercy and kindness in the land and encouraged everyone to maintain Igbo culture and tradition.
