* The Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Government, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, and the Deputy Majority Leader and Member Representing Njikoka two Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Akpua PhD, graced the prestigious New Year Festival (Iwa Ji Abba) of HRH Igwe Sir L. N. Ezeh (Eze Abba) in Abba, Njikoka LGA.
The vibrant community of Abba warmly welcomed Barr. Ononiba, who was received with open arms and enthusiastic cheers, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) faithful, in particular, were overjoyed to see their leader, Barr. Ononiba, and expressed their delight and admiration for his presence at the festival.

* The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra Branch has called off the indefinite strike embarked upon to protest the kidnap of Dr. Stephen Ezeh, an Ihiala based private practitioner. The NMA urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security in the state. The doctors said the growing insecurity and kidnapping was crippling the economy and health care delivery in the State. The NMA in a Statement was signed by Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli its Chairman and Secretary respectively on Sunday said the decision followed the release of Dr Ezeh from captivity of kidnappers.
* In a move to strengthen road safety initiatives within the Council Area the Transition Chairman of Onitsha North LGA Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora received the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Area Commander in charge of Onitsha North, Onitsha South, and Ogbaru Local Government Areas on courtesy visit to his office. The meeting, which took place at the chairman’s office, provided a platform for them to discuss collaborative strategies aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing the incidence of accidents in Onitsha North LGA. During the visit, the FRSC Area Commander commended the TC Chairman for his proactive approach to addressing road safety concerns in the area.
* Anambra Police Command has rescued a young man who attempted to take his own life. The young man was debriefed, rendered medical assistance and kept in safe custody for monitoring. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, the young man, who was later identified as Alozie John, aged 27 years from Isielu LGA Ebonyi State but lives in Umunnachi, Dunukofia LGA. He further confessed that he deals with selling live Chicken and after he took the harmful chemical did not feel otherwise. Meanwhile, his mother was contacted, and she is currently assisting the Police with evaluation, references and transfer to a better facility for proper and other necessary care of the boy.
* The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra State has warned against unauthorized campaigning for council membership positions within the institution. Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor (Information and Public Relations) Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a statement issued on Saturday stated that the university management advised that those campaigning for the following positions—four persons elected from the University Senate, two from Congregation, and one from Convocation should cease immediately. According to the statement, it has come to the university management’s attention that certain staff members have commenced unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming Governing Council elections.
* A foremost Nigerian creative photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi will deliver a keynote address at the maiden Southeast Photography Exhibition scheduled to hold at the International Convention Center, Awka on August 31.
The Photography Exhibition entitled “The Forgotten Country” is organised by Natesa Consulting, a Strategic Communication and Public Relations firm in collaboration with Anambra Government.
A renowned painter and artist Amadi-Obi, will be joined by Lucas Ugo, Veteran Photographer and representatives from Centre for Memories asguests of honour.
Chief Don Onyenji, Commissioner of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism will also be a special guest at the event.
* The caretaker Committee of Mgbuka Obosi Old Motor car Parts Dealers Association headed by Chief Samuel Ifurunwa, has commenced installation of first batch of 27 pieces of solar lights in all streets in the market. Making this disclosure during their periodic prayer session. Chief Ifurunwa, the market Chairman, said their installation of the solar lights was informed during a meeting the traders had with Anambra State lawmakers at Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association, ASMATA, secretariat. According to Ifurunwa, the lawmakers stressed the need for installation of solar lights to help ward off crimes and criminality in the markets especially at night.
* The traditional ruler of Isuofia Community, Igwe Christopher Muoghalu (rtd), has confered the title “Mmili Gulu-egu” on Anambra First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo. The conferment, which was a major highlight of the town’s 2024 new yam festival, honours the governor’s wife’s known characters of love for humanity, humility and selflessness. The title “Mmili Gulu-egu” was a popular alias of Mrs Soludo’s late mother, Mrs Gloria Uzoamaka Ezenwanne, a renowned educationist whose stories of discipline, kindness and heroism are still being told today’s references.
* Igbariam community, host to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, has taken legal action against Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Anambra State Government. The community is seeking to reclaim their land, approximately 2,415 hectares, which was acquired by the old Eastern Region for farm settlement. In a motion filed at the Awka High Court, the community, represented by President General Chris Oforkansi and others, is seeking an interim injunction to restrain the government and university from further encroaching on their land.
* African centre for leadership, strategy and development (centre LSD) in partnership with Government of Anambra state, Ministry of petroleum and mineral resources, Awka, and International peace and civic responsibility centre (IPCRC) held a two days Town Hall Meeting on Implementing Host Communities’ Provisions in Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Speaking at the event, Mr Commissioner for Environment Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu calls for urgent enviromental concerns in the host communities and the state at large. He noted that Anambra state is now one of the oil- producing state in the country and as expected effluent discharge, Environmental degradation and pollution et.c will be on the rise.
