* Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike says 60,000 mothers have benefited from free delivery and antenatal services since its introduction across the state by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration. Dr. Obidike disclosed this when the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JEZCO Group of Companies, Chief Joseph Ezeokafor, led stakeholders in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, to inspect projects being delivered by the Solution Government at the General Hospital Ekwulobia. Dr. Obidike recalled the hospital’s state of dilapidation before Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s intervention and stated that the Soludo administration is building five General Hospitals in the Anambra North Senatorial District.
* The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honored the member representing Njikoka two constituency Hon Jude Akpua with ‘2023 Legislature Of The Year Award’. Hon Akpua who is the Deputy Majority Leader Anambra State House Of Assembly, received the award at Hilton Leisure Resort Hotel, Awka. Speaking after receiving the award at the ‘2024 South East Media Summit and Awards’, Hon. Akpua commended NUJ Anambra Chapter for recognizing him.
* Civil Society Advocate and Media Practitioners have been urged to contribute their quota towards reducing the burden of tuberculosis in Anambra State. They are tasked to do all within their power to get the state government to increase budgetary allocation and releases for TB programme. This, according to the Executive Director, Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, (GPSDC) Eucharia Anekwe, is imperative in the face of the growing donor fatigue and the current rating of the state as number in terms of TB burden in the south east region.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Barr. C.C Ozumba has inaugurated the Dunukofia Local Government Child Rights Implementation Committee (DKLGCRIC) at the Council Headquarters, Ukpo. The Chairman charged the Committee to initiate actions that shall ensure the observance and popularisation of the Rights and welfare of the Child as provided in the Child Rights Law of Anambra State. He also enjoined the Committee members to develop programs that will ensure that children are protected in the communities and to monitor the implementation of such programs.
* The Department of Human Kinetics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has held a glittering Induction Ceremony for freshers and 200 level students of the Department. The induction ceremony which was held at the Multipurpose Hall of the institution was to formally welcome the new entrants into the Department and the University proper as well as to inundate them on the programmes and activities of the department and what is expected from the students by the institution. In her opening remarks, the Head of the Department of Human Kinetics, Dr. Theresa Uzor stated that the induction ceremony for the current academic session is unique as sporting activities was mainstreamed as part of activities for the unique event.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has presented different awards, certificates of recognitions and 50KG bag of rice each to the 30 persons who interacted closely with him when he was the Parish Priest of the Old All Saints Parish, Awgbu. in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. These recipients and beneficiaries were honoured during the Civil reception of the Bishop Ezeokafor shortly after the Concelebrated Eucharistic Celebration. All Saints Parish, Awgbu, was Bishop Ezeokafor’s first place of primary assignment shortly after his ordination 30th June, 1984 and that the major event (40th Anniversary) will take place around November 16 this year.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed profound sorrow over the painful passing of Mrs. Onyeka Onwenu, who died on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the age of 72. In his condolence message, Governor Soludo commiserated with her family and the Nigerian music industry as he described Onwenu as an unforgettable, beautiful beacon of joy and inspiration, widely recognised for her remarkable contributions to music and film. Soludo recalled that the deceased, who was affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” began her illustrious music career in the 1980s. Her debut album, “For the Love of You,” released in 1981, marked the beginning of a career that would see her produce numerous albums and timeless hits, including the iconic “One Love.”
* As Igboland and the rest of Nigeria grapple with a food crisis, Prince Chinedu Nsoffor, President of the Igboebinie Project, has assured that the establishment of Igboebinie Farm Settlement could end the food crisis.
Speaking to journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State, Prince Nsoffor highlighted the essential nature of food security, noting its importance above all other basic needs such as shelter, clothing, and transportation. Nsoffor emphasized that food security can be achieved through the Igboebinie Farm Settlement. He cited the parable of the talents from the Bible, which he interprets as a call to harness the agricultural and technological talents of the Igbo people.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that the late music icon, Mrs. Onyeka Onwenu epitomized nobility, greatest, hard work and creativity in her chosen career. In his Condolence Message, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that the late Onwenu used music to deliver a lot of lessons and also contributed to the happiness, growth and development of Nigeria through her collections. The Speaker who recollected with nostalgia some of the late Onwenu’s albums like “One Love,Keep Us Together”, “You And I will Live” and “Chukwu Gozie Nnem” among others, described her as a queen of the music industry. While calling on the Federal Government to immortalize the late Ms.Onwenu by naming the National Center For Women Development after her, Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined other women of Igbo extraction to emulate the late music legend by discovering their talents and utilizing them in the service of God and humanity as Ms.Onwenu did.
