# Drama ensued at No. 27 Seaman Avenue, Secretariat road Awka, as occupants of the building woke up to face forceful evacuation from a bailiff and security men, armed to the teeth, who said that they were enforcing an Awka Magistrate Court judgement over the said property.

Some of the residents who spoke to newsmen regretted that they were not informed of any court judgement, and that they are paying their rents as at when due before the forceful evacuation.

They wondered how a court of competent jurisdiction will give a judgement over a property without notifying the occupants, or even giving them a one week notice to vacate the building.

A concerned citizen whose wife’s shop was affected, Comrade Osita Obi, said that he lost five million naira cash he kept at his wife’s shop because they were not there when the compound was broke into, wondering how a judgement would be given without tenants of the house knowing about it.

 

# The Nnamdi Azikiwe, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu on Friday, August 1, 2025, inaugurated the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course.

The ceremony witnessed the administration of the oath of allegiance to 1,433 prospective Corps members, comprising 658 males and 775 females, by His Lordship Justice S.N. Okoye, who represented the Chief Judge of Anambra State.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo who was represented by Engr. Martin Agbili, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, extended a warm welcome to the Corps members and encouraged them to uphold the ideals of national unity, service, and sacrifice.

# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has assured Anambra residents that the mult- targeted approach and collaboration between the Corps and other security agencies has designed and emplaced a water tight security architecture that will soon start yielding positive results.

Commandant Maku stated this during the Command’s Assessment Tactical Deravatives and Security Deliverables Digest held at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.

The NSCDC Anambra State Commandant noted with optimism that security agencies are working tirelessly to bring about positive changes and called on the citizens not to allow fear and panic to affect them.

Comdt. Maku emphasized the need for a fresh approach, suggesting that revisiting and re-strategizing would be essential in tackling the state’s security challenges.

# The DeeJays Association of Nigeria (DJAN) has held its fourth Southeast Zonal Conference in Awka with a passionate call for greater government and societal support for Disc Jockeys (DeeJays), describing them as the heartbeat of the entertainment industry and events.

Speaking at the event, the National President of DJAN, Prince Christian Edeh, and the Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Uchechukwu Olebara, commended members for their dedication and sacrifices in moving the association forward, and urged DeeJays across the region to uphold unity, love and professionalism for the overall progress of the industry.

In their separate remarks, the Anambra State Coordinator of DJAN, Mr. Chinedu Offiah, the State Secretary, Mr. Jerry Mbata, and Ogbaru Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Oru, described this year’s conference which has its theme as “Transforming Passion Into Prosperity”, as unique, insightful, and entertaining, and encouraged participants to apply lessons learned, especially in branding and business plan in order to grow and succeed in the career.

To thrive in the ever-changing entertainment landscape, a Master of Ceremony (MC) and keynote speaker at the event, Mr. Chinecherem Ukpai, alongside awardees; Chief Emeka Okadigbo and Mr. Ikechukwu Chidi, emphasized the importance of continuous skill development, embracing modern trends and fostering collaboration; rather than competition among DJs.

# Anambra State Government, through the State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, has arrested four illegal revenue collectors at UNIZIK Temp Site Awka, Enugwu-Ukwu; in Njikoka Local Government Area, and Onitsha respectively.

Speaking to newsmen after parading the suspects in Awka, the Commander of the AIRS Special Squad, Mr. Nathan Obikwelu, said that the illegal revenue collectors were terrorizing and extorting money from commercial motorcyclists and motorists, as well as selling illegal tickets in the various locations mentioned.

Mr. Obikwelu re-emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has banned all forms of illegal revenue collections across the state, and selling of tickets under any guise, thanking the Chairman of AIRS, Dr. Greg Ezeilo for his support to the squad in carrying out enforcement.

He maintained that all the suspects would be charged to court immediately to serve as deterrent to others, assuring that the squad will continue to flush the criminals out of the state.

# Anambra State Coordinator of NYSC Anambra State, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua has congratulated the Corps members for their successful mobilization and described the Orientation Course as the bedrock of their service year.

Mrs. Ojisua expressed appreciation to the State Government for its ongoing support, particularly for integrating Corps members into the One Youth, Two Skills initiative.

She, however, appealed for infrastructural upgrades on camp, including the construction of additional accommodation for officials and urgent interventions to mitigate erosion threats.

“This course is designed to equip you with leadership skills, civic responsibility, and entrepreneurial capacity. You are already showing admirable discipline and enthusiasm. Let this spirit guide you throughout your service.” she noted.

# The Anambra State Police Command, on Friday 1st August 2025, swiftly intervened and restored calm, following a report of a political squabble at Nri community in Anaocha Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly arose after supporters of a Political party allegedly pulled down three campaign billboards belonging to another party leading to a brief disturbance in the area.

Given the above, both parties involved in the matter were immediately invited for a peace meeting aimed at de-escalating the tension.

However, a mutual agreement was reached to replace the removed billboards without delay, despite claims that the removal was due to non-payment of signage fees.

Meanwhile, Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has urged political actors and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and within the ambit of the law.

The Police boss further directed that the Case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Political Desk to uphold the already resolved pact by the parties or otherwise, for a more discreet investigation.

# The Legal Aid Coordinating Committee, Anambra State, has extended its human rights outreach to Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area, sensitizing residents on their fundamental rights and offering support to vulnerable individuals with unresolved human rights-related cases.

The sensitization event, which held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Umunya Development Union Hall, provided an opportunity for community members to engage directly with legal professionals, receive clarification on basic rights, and seek assistance in addressing legal grievances.

Led by Rose Okeke Esq, the legal aid team that visited Umunya comprised Damaris Nnajiofor Esq., Chinaza Ekwemeze Esq., Mrs. Ugochi Freeman and Dr. Gabriel Alonta, who all emphasized the importance of community-based legal education and access to justice for the underserved.

The interactive session featured one-on-one hearings and documentation of human rights complaints, as residents opened up about long-standing issues requiring legal intervention. Many expressed gratitude and optimism that their cases, now formally documented, would receive due attention and justice.

The initiative, this writer reports, is part of an ongoing effort by the Legal Aid Coordinating Committee to decentralize legal awareness, ensure social justice, and bring legal support closer to the grassroots.

# Blessed Iwene Tansi Major Seminary, Onitsha and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their academic partnership. The signing ceremony took place on August 1, 2025, at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

During the ceremony, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, commended the management of Blessed Iwene Tansi Major Seminary for their interest in affiliating with the university’s Department of Religion and Human Relations. She assured them of the university’s full cooperation and support.

Fr. Fabian Obi, Rector, Blessed Iwene Tansi Major Seminary, expressed gratitude to the university management for their support and pledged the seminary’s commitment to fostering a good relationship between the two institutions.

The MOU signing was witnessed by key officials from both institutions, including Fr. Gregory Nwachukwu, Fr. Peter Okafor, and Fr. Celestine Ezeoke from the seminary, and Mr. Victor Modebelu, Acting Registrar, Prof. Angela Ufele-Obiesie, Director of Academic Planning, and Mr. Njelita Louis from the university.
