* A philanthropist, Chief Hamilton Ezeonu says he has vowed to use his resources to create a positive impact in his community. Ezeonu who holds the special title of Ikemba Nnobi due to his magnanimity and philanthropic gesture to his people and society at large, stated this during the commissioning of one kilometer road and three boreholes he constructed. Speaking before the commissioning of the project by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Ezeonu stressed the need for wealthy individual to impact on human development and capacity building.
* Soludo has expressed hearty congratulations to Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu on marking another year in life, wishing her happy birthday.
According to the Governor in his goodwill message, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s remarkable contributions as a diplomat, lawyer, politician and businesswoman continue to exemplify her dedication to public service and empowerment.
* A certificate forgery scandal has rocked the Anambra State public service, resulting in the dismissal of scores of workers. In a surprising turn of events, the sacked workers have formed an association to fight back, threatening to expose their colleagues still in service with fake credentials. The certificate screening exercise, initiated by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo Administration to sanitize the system, has led to the dismissal of numerous workers, including directors and those with forged PhD certificates.
* To enable Mining activities to recommence at different sites in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has approved new registration and certification procedures before prospective Miners can resume operations. The procedures are as follows: Registration and documentation will be done at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. Verification of documents will be done by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company and Ministry of Environment. Screening will be done by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Justice.
Confirmation will be done by Anambra State Mining Reforms Committee. Approval will be given by the *Governor of Anambra State and Clearance to operate will then be issued by the Anambra State Mining Reforms Committee.
* The Nigerian Conference of Women Religious, Awka Area, comprising female Religious Congregations in Awka Diocese, gathered at the Confraternity of Little Sisters of Jesus Convent, Isuaniocha, for her second annual business meeting and seminar presentation. The business meeting which also featured the handing over of the new executive, was, according to the body, for them to deliberate on crucial issues concerning the congregation.
* The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant seats of National Assembly members who passed away in 2024. The by-elections will take place after the upcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections, scheduled for September 21 and November 16, 2024, respectively. The 10th Assembly has lost four members since its inauguration in June 2023: Isa Dogonyaro, Ekene Adams, Musiliudeen Akinremi, and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
* The Development Partner, Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC Nnewi, in a partnership project with Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria has paid an advocacy visit to the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government, Hon. Ezeogidi George, with a call for a more responsive local government system in the country. During the visit facilitated by the Community Champion of Nnewi South of Anambra South Senatorial zone, the Advocacy Team Lead, Mr Onyekachi Ololo, explained to their host that the JDPC Nnewi ably led by the Director, Rev. Fr. Ben Chima Okolo, works in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructural development.
* The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has conveyed his warm felicitations to the Anglican Bishop of Awka and Archbishop of Niger Province, the Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, PhD, on his 62nd birthday celebration. In his goodwill message, signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, Soludo described Archbishop Ibezim as a most distinguished, caring, spiritually vibrant, well-educated and widely travelled cleric and humanitarian who is worth celebrating for his life of impeccable service to God and humanity.
* The Church of the Holy Spirit pastoral staff, Rev. Chijioke Anaemena has frowned at the showmanship exhibited by Christians in some of the Churches across Christianity. He restated that Christianity is an important religion but not a showmanship, hence, it advocates for leadership without ulterior motives.
Reverend Anaemena who is attached to Federal Science and Technical College, Awka, warned that Christians should not see going to Churches as participating in social clubs, but a spiritual obligation.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, ahead of the conduct of local government elections in Anambra State.
Soludo on Tuesday, performed the function at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. Inaugurating the members of the Commission, Governor Soludo charged them to render nothing short of sterling service to ndị Anambra.
