# As a major boost to the state’s aviation infrastructure and hospitality services, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has officially commissioned the newly constructed Protocol Lounge at Chinụa Achebe International Airport, Umueri.
The event marked a milestone in the airport’s ongoing development aimed at enhancing passenger experience and positioning Anambra as a key destination in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
The modern Protocol Lounge is designed to provide comfort, exclusivity, and high-end services to dignitaries, government officials, business travelers, and other Very Important Personalities (VIPs) using the airport.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Soludo highlighted the lounge as part of his administration’s commitment to elevating the standards of public facilities in the state, explaining that the facility will not only improve the experience of visitors but also reflect the hospitality and progressiveness of Anambra State, further emphasizing that the airport and associated amenities are vital catalysts for economic growth, tourism, and investment attraction.

“If you dont come for approval, you may build on a water-way and it will be brought down. You may build something that is not structurally strong, It may collapse and kill me.
“Anytime you want to build, please come, its not soo expensive. Come with your plan, we are ready to help.
“If check to know weather it is consonants with the scheme of tha area or nuisance to the public”. He said
# The 2025 Dunukofia Games Festival has commenced with the Chairman of Dunukofia Local government Chijioke Ozumba Esq, performing the ceremonial kick-off.
The opening game had the defending champions Ifitedunu delivered a commanding 7:2 victory over Nawgu, their familiar rivals.
The final was contested between the same two communities, with Ifitedunu lifting the trophy. Once again, they have proven why they remain a dominant force in Dunukofia sports.
The moment was greeted with loud applause, excitement and celebration from spectators, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts across the LGA.
# The Cooperative Federation of Anambra State, COFAS, Limited, has launched a renewed campaign to strengthen cooperative societies across the state, unveiling an action plan aimed at repositioning cooperatives as key drivers of social transformation and grassroots development.
The initiative was announced at the 2025 Strategic Cooperative Summit held at King David Hotel, Awka.
The summit, themed ”Cooperative Societies as Agents of Social Transformation and Sustainable Grassroots Development”, brought together cooperative leaders, government representatives, academics, financial facilitators, and development practitioners to examine the challenges confronting cooperatives and outline a framework for rebuilding public trust and operational discipline within the sector.
Delivering the keynote address, COFAS President, Dr Ogochukwu Soludo, said the federation was moving to correct years of decline that had weakened cooperative culture in the state.
# In the spirit of love and giving, Team Njikoka Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo paid a special Christmas visit to the Late Wilfred Belonwu Memorial Orphanage in Nimo, under the Catholic Diocese of Awka.
The visit, led by the wife of the Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Mrs. Pamela Ononiba, was a gesture of thanksgiving and a way to mark the successful end of this year’s Healthy Living activities in Njikoka.
The children were filled with excitement as Santa Claus made a joyful appearance, presenting gifts and spreading early Christmas cheer.
Mrs. Pamela Ononiba emphasized the importance of showing compassion, especially during the festive season, and reaffirmed the team’s commitment to supporting the well-being of all, particularly the vulnerable in society. As she thanked the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo for initiating this campaign for healthy living.
# A High Court sitting in Umunze, Orumba South Judicial Division, and presided over by Hon Justice Jude Obiora, has decried the issuance of certificate of recognition to one Chief Timothy Okwudiri Ifurunwa as the monarch-elect of Ihitte Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Ifurunwa was issued the certificate alongside other elected traditional rulers on January 14, 2025, by the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, despite contestations arising from his election which gave birth to multiple court cases.
While High Chief Sampson Ikechukwu Okoli, Raymond Okoli and Mr Emeka Onyeanusi, acting on behalf of Umuezeoma kindred, Umuezeawuru Village are contesting that the kingship should have gone to them by right, members of Ihitte Traditional Council are alleging They were by-passed in the election by a small cabal in the community, even though they were the kingmakers.
During a court sitting in Umunze recently, on the matter, the judge contended that it was wrong to have issued a certificate to Ifurunwa, while the legitimacy of his election was still being determined by the court.
# Some yet-to-be-ascertained armed assailants have attacked St. Andrews Anglican Church, Isiokwe in Lilu community of Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, killing two persons, burning vehicles and the cleric’s apartment.
The wife of the priest of the church was among the two persons killed, while some parts of the church building were also burnt.
The premises and environs appeared deserted, while some properties were seen littering the place.
Some eyewitnesses and residents in the area confirmed to newsmen that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, disrupted church activities and sent panic in the area.
# The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command CP Ikioye Orutugu has condemns in the strongest terms the attack in the morning of 7th December 2025, carried out by armed criminals which resulted in the death of one person confirmed with serious injuries inflicted on a few others, including the church building partially burnt, and other properties destroyed at a church premises in Lilu, Ihiala LGA.
The CP States that this heinous and abominable act, committed against innocent worshippers, is not only an assault on the community but a grave affront to our shared values of peace, sanctity of life, and freedom of worship.
The Command extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and to the entire Lilu community and assures the public that the Police shall relentlessly hunt down the perpetrators of this crime.
The CP notes that no community should be subjected to such brutality as the command will not allow criminals to instill fear or destabilize the peace we are working tirelessly to maintain.
