# Some ndi Anambra, residents of Awka, have expressed happiness that the soon-to-be-commissioned Awka Shopping Mall will change the landscape of shopping experience in Awka and its environs when the mall finally opens for business.
The once-abandoned mall is a public-private partnership spearheaded by the Anambra State Government, as the mall is about ninety percent completed and would open for operations soon.
Speaking in Awka, a former labour union leader in the state, Chief Anthony Ugozor, said Anambra State has attained an enviable level of development and that the shopping mall is a welcome development, emphasizing that the mall must have the objective of serving Ndi Anambra without any undue profiteering.
Chief Ugozor went on to explain that the shopping mall will further help showcase the business ingenuity of Anambra State, commending the government for the initiative, as it will further add to the beauty and aesthetics of Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
# In a determined effort to enhance healthcare in the state, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and the Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata), have inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Dental Hospital in Nkolofia, Awka-Etiti.
The inspection was to assess the progress made so far. The specialist Dental hospital is being constructed by the people of Awka-etiti under Public Private Community Partnership model of Governor Soludo.
Dr. Obidike, visibly impressed with the progress, reiterated the state government’s commitment to collaborate with the community stakeholders to complete the project on schedule and ensure best Dental doctors and nurses for effectiveness of the facility.
He noted that Governor Soludo has made healthcare a priority in his administration and commended the people of Awka-etiti for the commitment to the growth and development of their town.
# Lampada FC of Oko has claimed victory as Champions of the inaugural 2025 Anambra State Football League.
The tournament is an initiative of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) bankrolled by Akubudike Energy Ltd
Lampada FC saw off Rangels FA of Achina 3-2 via penalty shootouts after the game ended 1-1 at regulation time with goals scored by Chijioke Mba in the 5th minute for Rangels FA and an equalizer five minutes from time which came through a volley from Sunday Nwachukwu to take the match to penalty shootouts.
Lampada FC smiled home with the sum of N2million while Rangels FA settled for N1million with N500 thousand going to Game Changers FC who finished third after seeing off Bonfa FA in the third/fourth placed playoffs earlier in the day with Pele Chiemerie’s goal in the 84th minute of the game. Bonfa FA were also rewarded with the sum of N200 thousand as consolation prize for their efforts.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amucheazi (SAN), has called on lawyers in Anambra State to always encourage their clients to resolve issues through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
Amucheazi who stated this at an event organized in Awka, Anambra State, by a law firm, Pinnacle Tree Attorneys, to celebrate their third anniversary, decried the amount of money he said the police made from Anambra People just because of what he called the ego of the people for matters that could be amicably settled.
The Commissioner who was the keynote speaker at the event, said the erroneous belief that ADR would kill litigation and take away the job of the lawyer was not true. He rather stated that using ADR to resolve disputes among parties could rather bring peace and settlement quicker, while the lawyer could also enjoy proceeds of his work without much headache.
Speaking under the theme: ”Promoting Peaceful Settlement through ADR (Peace is Better)”, he said: ‘Many people think ADR will keep us away from practice, but it is not true. Today’s ADR has the features of both litigation and traditional ADR, and lawyers still make money from it and everyone is happy for it.
# The Akwaihedi Community in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State has formally disassociated itself from the trending video depicting the killing of a man by personnel of the Nigerian Army.
In a statement issued by the President-General of Akwaihedi Community, Hon. (Barr.) Oliver Mbagwu, the community’s leadership and entire populace distanced themselves from what he described as a misleading and malicious narrative circulating on social media regarding the security-related incident.
According to Mbagwu, the community is deeply concerned about attempts by certain individuals to distort facts and create a negative impression of Akwaihedi a peaceful and law-abiding community known for its long-standing cooperation with security agencies.
He clarified that the individual seen in the viral video is not a resident, representative, or member of Akwaihedi Community.
# The Anambra State Government, through the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), has issued an interim license to First Power Electricity Company Limited, as electricity distributor in the state.
The Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), Prof. Frank Okafor, said this was in an effort to ensure steady power supply in every part of the state.
Okafor said the government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo was poised to make the state a choice destination, and that it could not be achieved, if power still remained a luxury in the state.
He said with the new issuance of a temporary license to First Power which would last for one year, the commission would be looking forward to improved power, while also vowing that it would ensure thorough oversight over the activities of the company to ensure that targets were met.
# The Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Amaka Obi inspected the ongoing renovation of a four‑classroom block at Central School, Nnobi.
Obi reiterated that her administration will continue to prioritize welfare and development throughout the council area and announced that the project is on track for commissioning within three weeks.
The mayor also urged the contractor to accelerate work to meet the deadline.
Speaking on behalf of Nnobi Ward 2, Councillor Hon. Ilogbenu Oluchukwu expressed satisfaction that the mayor came to their rescue, describing the initiative as an “Intervention Project” that will significantly ease the challenges faced by the school. He commended the mayor for the swift response and affirmed that the project will go a long way toward improving educational facilities in the ward.

sympathized with affected families of afor Nawfia attack.
The Mayor together with the President General of Nawfia, Chief Daniel Okoye,
paid a condolence visit following the violent attack that occurred on the evening of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Barr. Ononiba while while sympathizing with affected families, condemned the senseless act of violence and assured the people of Nawfia that the government will work closely with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The local government boss also called for calm and vigilance, urging residents to cooperate with authorities as investigations continue.
